Big Income Increase On Southern Pacific SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 4—The Southern Pacific Company reported today a net operating income of $27,336,438 for the first nine months of 1921, an increase of $18,227,373 over the same period of 1920. The net income in August was $5,200,608. It'll be different next summer. Young men are complaining that with "day-light saving" ten thirty is just the shank of the evening. You tell your son never to fight unless the other boy hits him first. And still you kick if it works out that way. It's a well read man that "votes" for every pretty girl who calls. Leavening Strength Tells the Story The price you pay for baking powder doesn't determine the results you will have on bake day—it's the leavening strength that counts. You may buy a baking powder for less than Calumet and think you are practicing economy. Don't be misled—the bakings you spoil will make those that are successful exorbitant in cost. CALUMET BAKING POWDER has successfully proven, during the past thirty years, that it contains more than the ordinary leavening strength. That's why bakings where it is employed never fail to raise properly. Calumet is used by more housewives, leading chefs, domestic scientists, restaurants, hotels and railroads than any other brand. Millions buy it—you should try it. A pound can of Calumet contains full 16 oz. Some baking powders come in 12 oz. cans instead of 16 oz. cans. Be sure you get a pound when you want it. FIGHT PROMPT CHANGE FOR TOO By Billy The stage is all flastic doings out of farm where the man ranged an excellent boutus for the club. Los Angeles St. FIGHT PROMOTER MAKES CHANGE IN CARD FOR TONIGHT By Billy Darnley The stage is all set for tonight's fistic doing out at Spark's fistic farm where the matchmaker has arranged an excellent card of four round bouts for the club's weekly show. From the curtain raiser to the main event there should be enough action furnished to satisfy the most rabid fan when the opening gong calls them to the center of the ring. The feature event of the evening between those two good boys, Johnny Meyer, the scrappy fireman from Glendale; and Young Stanley Ketchell of Montana, promises to be a "humdinger" from start to finish. Both boys are in good shape to set a fast pace and the bout should give the fans something to talk about for sometime to come. The semi-windup between Jack Iman and Bill Burns also is coming in for its share of attention and this bout, too, ought to be a rattling good go. Iman is fit and ready to put up another real hurricane battle such as he came through over at San Bernardino last night when he stopped Jimmy Torbett in the third round. Burns sends over word from Olinda that he will keep Jack stepping fast and local fans to keep their eyes open and watch him go tonight. He expects to give Iman a real fight. A change has been made in one of the preliminaries, Alebrt Leo taking the place of Joe Cappelle. Leo will box Joe Chaney and the substitution should improve the card instead of deracting from it. Leo scored a clean cut knock out at Berdoo last night agianst Joe Moody in the first round. Several weeks ago, Moody did the same thing to Leo in the same town. Leo and Joe ought to give the fans a real thrill in their argument tonight, as should also Young Burton and Charence Rubidoux, who are figured upon to come through with the star bout of the evening. Paul Darden, the hard hitting 122-pounder from Huntington Beach, who disposed of Battling Able at last week's show, meets another Phacentia lad in Young Frankie, who will try to uphold the honor of his home town in the curfalfa raiser. ANAHEIM BOXERS WIN AT SAN BERNARDINO LAST NIGHT Two Anaheim boys were winners at San Bernardino last night. Albert Leo put over the K.O on Joe Moody in one round, while Jack Iman stopped Jimmy Torbett in three rounds. Moody's seconds throwing in the towel for their man to save him from further punishment. Both local boys showed up well at the Gate City's club and created a very favorable impression with the fans. Moody, it will be remembered, stopped Leo in two rounds several weeks ago so the boys are now fifty fifty. Other results were: In the main event, Johnny Adams of San Bernardino won decision over Bobby Ward of Salt Lake in four rounds; Danny O'Brien and Joe Thomas, draw; Bobby Barton was awarded the verdict over Tony Navor in four rounds. Billy Darnley of the local club was referee. Houghton For Berlin Post, Harding's Choice WASHINGTON, Nov. 4.—The name of Alanson B. Houghton of Corning, N.Y., a member of the house from the thirty-seventh New York district, was understood to be first in the mind of President Harding as ambassador to Germany after a conference between the president and Charles D. Hilles, republican national committeeman for New York. Lawyer Charged With Stealing Automobile LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4.—Ray Barnett, lawyer, was arrested yesterday under indictment returned by the county grand jury, charging him with theft of an automobile from J.C.Hickman of Oakland on July 10 last. The car was parked before a cafeteria in Third street, near Boardway. It was remodeled and changed in appearance after being stolen, according to evidence presented to the grand jury. Ball was fixed at $3000. MAN Arrested Charged LONDON, Nov. 4.—King George may be asked to lend his moral support to the proposed compromise in the Irish situation, it was learned today. The king, whose plea for peace in convoking the Ulster parliament at Belfast opened the way for the present negotiation, was in conference last night with Premier Lloyd George. The titular and actual heads of the Britisca government were known to have discussed at length the present crisis, with particular reference to Ulster. If Sir James Craig, premier of Ulster, remains obdurate against concessions when he confers with Lloyd George here tomorrow it was believed that moral pressure might be exerted on him from Buckingham Palace. Thousands Pay Tribute To Italy's Unknown Hero ROME, Nov. 4.—Thousands of reverent men and women paid homage yesterday to Italy's "unknown warrior," who will be interred with royal honors Friday. The body arrived from the Issonzo battlefield Wednesday and since then has been lying in state in the Church of Santa Maria Degli Angill. Today it will be buried under Victor Emannuel's memorial. Lawyer—Will $25,000 breach of promise be punishment enough for him? The Aggrieved—No, I want him to marry me.—The Owl. BUY IT IN ANAHEIM the same thing to Leo in the same town. Leo and Joe ought to give the fans a real thrill in their argument tonight, as should also Young Burton and Clarence Rubidoux, who are figured upon to come through with the star bout of the evening. Paul Darden, the hard hitting 122-pounder from Huntington Beach, who disposed of Battling Able at last week's show, meets another Placentia lad in Young Frankie, who will try to uphold the honor of his home town in the curtaira raiser. $100,000 SUIT FOR LOST LOVE LAID TO RIDE IN CAR LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4.—The old inquiry, "Where are you going, my pretty maid?" in the case of Mrs. Wahnita Adams, was followed by an automobile ride and a broken home. This is charged in the $100,000 damage suit filed in the superior court yesterday by Horatio Adams against H. I. Hucke, said to be president of the Hollywood Planing Company. The complaint, which was prepared by Attorney F. D. Adams, says that Hucke won the affections of Mrs. Adams away from her husband. They are alleged to have met one day on Hollywood boulevard. Mrs. Adams, it is alleged was waiting for a street car when Hucke drove past in his machine. He is alleged to have offered her a ride, which she accepted, and the rest followed. LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4.—Said to have gone uninvited to a birthday party Wednesday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Panzich, 940 Summit street, creating a disturbance and then shooting the host in the arm, Steve Bisko, 29, was arrested yesterday. Detectives Reed, Gibson and Stevens found the man in the Temple block yesterday afternoon. He was charged with assault with intent to commit murder. Panzich was shot in the arm and as a result may lose the arm. "There's a perfect match." "That couple over there?" "Yes; she's a sniffle and he's a stick."—Western Christian Advocate.
