MAN WANTS THE JUDGE
TO HELP HIM TO
SOLVE PROBLEM
If you were a meek and vacillating bantam weight and your wife a belligerent and warlike heavyweight, and she threw rolling pinch and skillet and flat irons, not to say hot gravy dishes at you, what would you do?
Some one in this predicament who signs his name "I M. Interested" is evidently in just this fix. He heard that Justice of the Peace Cox recently horsewhipped a Mexican for beating his wife. He considers the Mexican lucky to be able to get even a decision over his wife, and marvels that he could put her down for the count.
When this gentle soul saw that Justice advocated a law providing capital punishment for wife beaters, he sought advice from the wise and learned judge as to the best course of action to pursue in his particular case. Here is the letter:
"I understand by the papers that

vacillating wife a bollit-weight, and skillets and gravy dishes
ament who interested" is He heard Fox recently for beating the Mexican even a declaration that providing life beaters, wise and best course particular papers that you advocate a law for flogging wife beaters. Now judge, suppose your wife weighed 233 pounds, and you only 143, and every chance she got, or every time an argument comes up, she hits you with a rolling pin, or a skillet or whatever may be handy, even to pouring hot gravy in your lap. Do you really think that she should be flogged? If so, kindly make your answer in print. I want her to see it."
To this missile, the judge replied, "He should take her under his arm and spank her. If he can't do that, he should wait till Saturday and hire the winner of the championship bout to have it out with his wife. It should make a good match, if she is what you say she is."
GET RESERVATIONS FOR BIG DINNER IN AT ONCE
'Get that reservation in. We want you there and you'll certainly be glad you came.'
This was the statement of Vic La Mont this morning and he was talking about the big civic dinner and get-together meeting at the High School tomorrow evening at 6:30.
We want to know how many people expect to come so that we can have plates prepared. Already nearly a hundred people have made reservations and we have room for twice that number. We are preparing for the biggest meeting of its kind ever held in the city. At the rate reservations are coming in now, we will have an oversubscription, so I advise everybody to make reservations early."
According to Mr. La Mont these
URG E APPOINTMENT E. E. REMSBERG AS COLLECTOR
California's representatives in the United States Senate are being urged to bring about the appointment of E. E. Ramsberg, brother-in-law of President Harding as collector of the port of Los Angeles.
Chambers of Commerce of Orange county are requesting California senators to urge the appointment of Ramsberg and Mayor William Stark of Anaheim has also taken a hand in the matter.
The appointment of Ramsberg will have a tendency, it is expressed to bring this county into more prominence through executive action in the appointment of Ramsberg, a prominent citizen of Santa Ana.
The fact that Ramsberg is the President's brother-in-law is not taken into consideration in the merits of the man. He is the owner of an orange grove and a fine residence in Santa Ana, and is considered one of the county's best citizens. Mr. Ramsberg has been a citizen of Orange county many years and his appointment, it is believed, would serve this county splendidly.
MUNICIPAL BAND IS HANDED A BOUQUET
Director Tozler says that while the Anaheim Municipal band concerts are appreciated, there are few bouquets handed to the members, although the absence of "brickbats" leads them all to believe their work is appreciated.
That the band has a standing in the county is evidenced by a letter received today by Mr. Tazler from
President Harding
Heads Committee for Lighthouse
When President and Mrs. Harding received Miss Winifred Holt, Lady of the Lighthouse," at the W House, and heard the story of the house movement in America, F and Italy, the President accepted Holt's invitation to serve as Hon-Chairman of the Committee for L houses for the Blind, and Mrs. Harding also promised her cooperation in $2,000,000-campaign.
Two blind girls employed in the ling and weaving rooms of the York Lighthouse for the Blind, East Fifty-ninth Street, took off their own handwork to the President and Mrs. Harding.
President and Mrs. Harding, days later, visited the New York L house and inspected the beautiful cicles turned out by the blind worker.
"If there anything I can do feel aloove a flame in a soul that
people expect to come so that we can have plates prepared. Already nearly a hundred people have made reservations and we have room for twice that number. We are preparing for the biggest meeting of its kind ever held in the city. At the rate reservations are coming in now, we will have an oversubscription, so I advise everybody to make reservations early."
According to Mr. La Mont those who attend will receive value for their money in three ways: first, in the meal that will be served; second, in the unusual quality of the talks to be given; and third, in the music and entertainment that will be furnished.
"Let me emphasize again," he said, "make your reservations early. Do it now. Let's go."
Peace treaties are usually faulty, but it doesn't matter. They are soon scrapped to make room for new models, any way.
MUNICIPAL BAND IS HANDED A BOUQUET
Director Tozier says that while the Anaheim Municipal band concerts are appreciated, there are few boquets handed to the members, although the absence of "brickbats" leads them all to believe their work is appreciated.
That the band has a standing in the county is evidenced by a letter received today by Mr. Tozier, from an old Ringling circus band man, who says:
"I am an old Ringling circus band man and I want to congratulate you on the band that plays in Orange, Tuesday evenings. It is the best band and only band I have heard in Orange county that can play in tune. The cornet solo was extra good."
PICKS 'EM BUT NOT GOOD PICKER FOR SELF, HE DECLARES
LOS ANGELES, June 30—(United Press.)—Martha A. Padley doesn't understand the principles of advertising, nor how unpleasant misdirected publicity can be.
Benjamin W. Padley, Martha's husband, thinks so at least. Benjamin runs a matrimonial agency.
Martha is suing him for a divorce. Not only that, but she is telling the world the things Benjamin doesn't know about matrimony.
It's all being threshed out in Judge J. Perry Wood's divorce court, a setting not new to either Benjamin or Martha. They were divorced once before. That was immediately after the police had locked up Benjamin's love brokerage office on complaint of neighboring tenants, and incarcerated its proprietor and several of his too-affectionate clients for a time.
The Padleys, however, remarried, and once more the marriage-to-order shingle was hung out on Benjamin's doorstep.
All would have been well, probably, if Mrs. Padley had not overheard her spouse make an untimely, not to say while he could pick 'em for other people all right he'd certainly made a poor choice in the matrimonial grab himself.

BUILDING LOAN TO
START CAMPAIGN FOR
MORE HOMES
Judge W. W. Zent, formerly of Spokane, Wash., but now a resident of Santa Ana seeking a home in Anaheim was a visitor in Anaheim today and with Mayor William Stark, announced that the Anaheim Building and Loan Association will soon begin an aggressive campaign in this city.
Judge Zent is a retired attorney,
and for some years was on the bench
in Washington. He is a specialist
in building and loan affairs and will
be secretary and general manager of
the Anaheim institutions.
The need for such an association
for the convenience of people who
want to own their own homes prompts
the association to begin an intense
campaign.
Judge Zent, like many others, was forced to seek a residence in Santa Ana because there are none available at this time in Anaheim.
Somehow or other, we couldn't get very enthusiastic about a battle cry of "Don't give up the Yap."
