BIG MILLINERY SALE
—Clearing out all trimmed hats at less than cost at Mode Millinery, 417 North Main St., Santa Ana. —Adv.
According to statistics compiled by Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, the standing of Anaheim, as a municipality, is one of which any city in the United States of this size may well be proud. There are ample proofs of this assertion, the one most recently outstanding having been the premium paid for the park bonds issued subsequent to the election last October.
Anaheim has outstanding at the present time bonds to the amount of $223,000, including $100,000 park bonds issued as above referred to. The money derived from various bond issues, heretofore, has been so well spent and efficiently managed that the city now owns property and improvements worth many thousands of dollars in excess of their original cost. At a conservative estimate, real estate owned by the municipality now represents a value of over $300,000. It is proposed to vote an issue of bonds for a new city hall, $75,000; for water extensions, $50,000; for sewer extensions, $30,000 and for a fire pump to be added to the present woefully inadequate fire fighting facilities, $5,000.
The growth of Anaheim has been so rapid during the past two years that there has been a preemptory demand for large extensions of water and sewer facilities. The cost of extending the electric light service has also been a heavy drain on the regular resources of Anaheim, derived from ordinary revenue. Within the last fiscal year the city had grown dangerously beyond the capacity of this revenue and these urgently required improvements must be provided by the sale of bonds.
At a recent meeting of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, the directors unanimously voted that the full strength and influence of the local organization be put behind the bond election, to be held in Anaheim, July 10th. The Kiwanis Club has named a committee under the chairmanship of Mr. E.H.Ahlswede to co-operate with the Chamber of Commerce in these activities. So far, it has been found that the public is keenly alive to the danger of further delay in providing Anaheim with the necessary facilities to put it abreast of other growing cities in California.
