A FAMOUS ventriloquist.
AND WHY he had quit.

IT SAID he discovered.
HE COULD make more jack.

SO WHEN I got home.
I PASSED the joke.
TO OUR cook, who owns.
BOTH A speechless parrot,
AND A sense of humor.
BUT SHE muffed it.
BECAUSE SHE didn't know.
WHAT A ventriloquist was.
SO I had to explain it.
AND ON the way out.
BLEW just a whiff
OF CIGARETTE smoke.
AT HER amusing old.
FOOL OF a parrot.
WHICH NEVER talks.
AND I said, "Poll."
HOW DYOU like it?
AND TO this day.
IT'S GOT me guessing.
WHETHER IT was cook.
OR THE blamed bird.

BALBOA BATHING PARADE IS DATED FOR SUNDAY, 26TH
At last it's out—the date of Balboa's 1921 bathing girl parade and riffy bathing suit revue.
Since last year's big event, which packed Balboa with a record crowd, it was known that the bathing girl parade would be repeated, and the date has been expectantly awaited. Sunday, June 26, is the day selected.
Madame LaRue, H. L. Sherman, and Curley Jordan form the committee in charge, as appointed by the Balboa Chamber of Commerce, and are bending every energy to make this year's parade better in every way than the 1920 show. At least 30 bathing suit models will be in line, says the committee.
ORANGES COVERED HIGHWAY AFTER AUTO COLLISION
The highway near the county hospital was strewn with oranges yesterday afternoon when two trucks, one loaded with oranges, collided.
The truck with the oranges, was driven by D. Moskow of Escondido, and the other to J. L. Updyke of Fullerton. No one was hurt, and neither car was overturned.
Boy Scouts Meet
The Scouts of Troop One, Anaheim, held their weekly meeting last night at the Fremont school.
The evening was passed in preparing for their second class test and the scout executive, Mr. Heidt, will be at the next meeting to pass the tests.
The first eight boys to pass the test will go on a three-day hike to our camp site in Trabuca canyon. Plans are being made to build a log cabin for our permanent meeting.
WHITE MULE'KICK LANDED MAN ONE NIGHT IN JAIL
Promising that he would report all neighbors' misconduct to the authorities instead of going after them with a gun, Jose Murrietto was allowed to return to his some in Stanton after spending a night in the county jail.
He was arrested yesterday by officers French and Myers, after a phone report that he was "lit up," and doing a lot of shooting.
When his arrest was made, a loaded pistol and a bottle of "white mule" was found in his possession.
He declared this morning that his neighbors attempted to "steala my wife," and that he was preventing it. A 30-day jail sentence was imposed and suspended on good behavior.
BANDITS FIGHT IN THICK OF CROWDS
KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 15—One bandit was shot and killed and another captured in a running revolver battle in the heart of the Kansas City business district today.
E. A. Prosser, a bystander, manager of the Chaffcothe, Mo., livestock exchange, was struck by a stray bullet. Hundreds of persons pouring out of office buildings for lunch, dodged whizzing bullets.
