ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS
Notice is hereby given that sealed bids and proposals will be received until two (2) o'clock p.m., July first, 1921, at the school building, corner Emily and Chartress streets, Anaheim, California, for the erection complete of a church building at the corner of Emily and Chartress streets, Anaheim, according to plans-and specifications on file at 130 E. Center street, Anaheim, for the Zion Lutheran Church of Anaheim. Sealed bids will also be received for segregated parts of the work, such as cement, carpentry, plastering, brick work, etc.
Plans and specifications will be furnished to prospective bidders upon payment of $10.00 which amount will be refunded upon the return of the plans and specifications.
Bids must be made in an intelligent manner according to the plans and specifications, including the alternates called for, and must be enclosed in sealed envelopes bearing the name and address of the bidder addressed to crack Northern Pacific mail train won its race with death.
Howard Snively, 8 years old, was on an outing at a farm near Prosser. Howard was riding "double-back" with a playmate when the horse suddenly bolted for the barn. There was not sufficient clearance between the horse's back and the top of the barn door to allow the boys to ride in. Howard's playmate slid off the horse uninjured, but Howard was caught between the horse's back and the top of the door.
With a shriek of pain he fell to the ground, and his spine bent almost double. There was no way of giving him even a slim fighting chance of life at Prosser. Medical skill was balked by the lack of surgical equipment. It was feared Howard's back was broken.
Howard's father determined that his son must be brought to Seattle. The fast mail, the crack train of the Northern Pacific, ordinarily carries no passengers. It was the first train through. Hastily the blocks were thrown, and the train flagged at Prosser.
Howard was taken aboard one of the mail cars, and made as comfortable as possible by the mail clerk.
Keeping to its schedule to do the train slid into Seattle at 8 o'clock the next morning, with Howard still alive. An ambulance was waiting. The lad was rushed to the Columbus sanitarium, where an x-ray was taken.
Howard was found to have a fracture of the eighth vertebra, but it is believed that he will pull through thanks to the mail train, which works its race with death and brought the boy back where science could save als life.

Comment on Today's News
By HENRY JAMES
People are quite accustomed to reading of deaths by automobile, so accustomed, in fact, that the daily reports make little impression. Yesterday a young man died as the result of an automobile crash in Los Angeles last week-end. His death was the seventh resulting from traffic accidents marking that brief period in that city. Considered as rounding out such an aggregate it ought not to be regarded as a casual incident of the news. This morning's papers tell of the fatal accident of which Colonel Galbraith, head of the American Legion, was the victim. The machine in which he was riding went over a twenty-foot embankment, killing him instantly. It is rare that a machine takes this course if it is being properly and carefully driven. The tragic ending of Galbraith's career means a great loss to the organization he directed, and will be mourned throughout the country.
British warships are being sent to Constantinople to protect the Greek forces it is said. If this is being done, doubtless the necessity exists. America also is rushing a ship to Constantinople, but it is laden with supplies for the sufferers of the Near East.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC WORK
SECTION 1. Notice is hereby given that on the 28thday of April, 1921, the Board of Trustees of the City of Anaheim passed and adopted its resolution of Intention No. 148, entitled: "A Resolution of the Board of Trustees of the City of Anaheim declaring its intention to order the widening of the south side of Chestnut street in the City of Anaheim from the west property line of South Los Angeles street in the said city to the east property line of South Lemon street in said city," declaring the intention of said Board of Trustees to order the following described street work to be done in said city, to-wit:
That the south side of Chestnut street in said city, from the west property line of South Los Angeles street to the easterly property line of South Lemon街 be widened to a uniform width of 34.75 feet southerly from and parallel to the center line of said Chestnut street.
SECTION 2. That the land deemed necessary to be taken for said work and improvement is situated within the said City of Anaheim and is described as follows, to-wit:
Beginning at the northwesterly corner of building lot forty-four (44) of the town of Anaheim as shown on a map recorded in Book 4 of Deeds at Pages 629 and 630 Records of Los Angeles county,-California; thence easterly along the northerly line of said building lot forty-four (44) and along the northerly line of building lots forty-three (43), forty-two (42), and forty-one (41) as shown on said map five hundred, fifty-two (562) feet more or less to the present westerly line of South Los Angeles street;
Considerable fuss is being made over the speech delivered in London by Admiral Sims. The admiral is a fiery sort of person, likely to speak his mind, and it is possible that he does not always exercise the finest discretion. However, the probability has to be recognized that the spirit of his remarks has been misrepresented and his actual words constructed by people who delight in seeking to stir up discord among the allies.
There are rumors that charges brought against the Groves brothers of violation of the Volstead act are to be dismissed out of court. This has been deemed an important case since if there was such a violation it was on the part of men whose sworn duty was to enforce that particular law. Moreover, small offenders are being punished right along, or charged with comparatively minor infractions, are forced to violate themselves by trial.
A most unusual spectacle was that of a Mexican ship in the harbor of Los Angeles to collect and carry back to their homes natives of Mexico who had not been fortunate in their venture into the United States. It was a thoughtful act on the part of Mexico to send for them. While they were awaiting the date of sailing local charity provided for their wants. Many Mexicans who were offered the chance to go declined because they considered this the real land of opportunity.
The most astonishing feature of the situation is the variety and number of non-beverage purposes.

Any breaking out of the skin, even fiery, itching eczema, can be quickly overcome by applying a little Mentho-Sulphur, says a noted skin specialist. Because of its germ destroying properties, this sulphur preparation instantly brings ease from skin irritation, soothes and heals the eczema right up and leaves the skin clear and smooth.
It never fails to relieve the torment and disfigurement. Sufferers from skin trouble should get a little Jar of Mentho-Sulphur from any good druggist and use it like a cold cream.
