TWO HELD ON WIRE FROM SAN DIEGO CHIEF OF POLICE Pending the arrival of San Diego police officers, two men giving their names as William M. Jones and Vance Mitchell, are being held in the county jail for the theft of a car. On telegraphic information from San Diego the pair were arrested early this morning at 11th and Main streets, Santa Ana, after a chase by officers. They were driving a Hudson super-six that is registered with the state by P. F. Arriola of San Diego. The pair gave their address as Rockwell Field, San Diego and say they are in the aviation department there. FINAL SYMPHONY CONCERT OF SEASON HERE MONDAY The final concert of the present season by the Orange County Symphony Orchestra will be given at the White Temple, Anaheim, next Monday evening, June 6. Incidentally this is the introductory appearance of the county musicians at the "Mother Colony," and even though the headquarters of the orchestra are now in Anaheim, possibly very few of Anaheim's townspeople have actually heard the symphony in action. It is composed of thirty-two skilled musicians from all sections of the northern portion of this county, who have been rehearsing under the direction of Prof. Walberg for the past four months. Because so many of the members of this organization will, within the next two or three weeks, be leaving for various parts of the state and elsewhere on vacations, for the summer, it will be impossible to again call this symphony together until fall. The previous rate of the Anaheim concert some weeks ago was canceled because of its confliction with other events. The soloist for the evening will be Grace Sayre, colorature soprano, whose reputation in the middle west and larger cities of the coast is already well established. Comment on Today’s News By HENRY JAMES It is doubtless true that before the war there was a deliberate plan to stir up race hatred in the south. The exact purpose of this was not easy to determine. It might have been arisen from the same malevolence, towards society and order that marks many of the activities of the I. W. W. or it might have been a phase of German influence, designed to hamper the entrance of the United States into the great struggle. Now that there has been a serious race riot, an effort is being made to ascribe the tragedy to the "reds." It is a weak and unwarrantable effort. Blame for the rancor that has taken the form of violence may not be shunted to the shoulders of parties unknown. The responsibility rests upon the two elements directly involved, and the gretter share belongs to the white race, the onee superior, in numbers, in advantages and education. There is one speed fiend of whom it may be assumed that he is not sleeping well o' nights. In a recentvals during the last thirty years the plan of building the bridge has been broached, and often seemed likely to be adopted." The Ford factory has just turned out a machine bearing the number 5,000,000. The proportion of the other 4,999,999 that skip along the highways of California would amaze the beholder unaccustomed to the sight. The responsibility rests upon the two elements directly involved, and the greater share belongs to the white race, the one superior, in numbers, in advantages and education. There is one speed flend of whom it may be assumed that he is not sleeping well o' nights. In a recent mad dash, probably to nowhere in particular and for no reason that could be defined, he killed two children playing in the street. Upon he fled with fresh haste leaving his victims dead and dying. The police and county authorities are looking for him. The safety of the public demands that he be in jail. But whether or not he shall be caught, ever in his mind, if he has any human quality, must remain the picture of two little ones wantonly slain and abandoned. Indiana courts are trying a lad of 11 years on a charge of murder, and the prosecution demands his life. Of course the demand is nonsensical. When the mature assassin is proved by the alienist to have the "mind of an eleven-year old" the extreme penalty is not inflicted. Mrs. Marie Bailey recently found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, has gone to the penitentiary to serve a term of one to ten years. There was deep sympathy for this defendant, but undesirable a citizen as the man she slew may have been, her own conduct prior to the tragedy had been more than questionable. There were nine of her own sex on the jury, and the prevailing sympathy seems not to have entered the jury room. Clement F. Cotton, appointed from California, is honor man of the graduating class of Annapolis this year, a distinction of which he has a right to be proud. The class numbers 260. Dispatches say that a bridge is to be constructed across the bay at San Francisco. It would be a stupendous work, some eight miles in length, and four years will be required to erect it. It is probable that such a bridge will be built some day, but whether the particular one now in the minds of engineers is a question. This excellent, common-sense health measure being adopted by millions. Physicians the world over recommend the inside bath, claiming this is of vastly more importance than outside cleanliness, because the skin pores do not absorb impurities into the blood causing ill health while the pores in the ten yards of bowels do. Men and women are urged to drink each morning, before breakfast a glass of hot water with a teaspoonful of limestone phosphate in it, as a harmless means of helping to wash from the stomach, liver, kidneys and bowels the previous day's indigestible material, polisons, sour bile and toxins; thus cleansing, sweetening and purifying the entire alimentary canal before putting more food into the stomach. Just as soap and hot water cleanse and freshen the skin, so hot water and limestone phosphate act on the eliminative organs. Those who wake up with bad breath, coated tongue, nasty taste or have a dull, aching head, sallow, complexion, acid stomach; others who are subject to billious attacks or constipation, should obtain a quarter pound of limestone phosphate at the drug store. This will cost very little but is sufficient to demonstrate the value of inside bathing. Those who continue it each morning are assured of pronounced results, both in regard to health and appearance. —Advertisement.
