An informal celebration of harbor enthusiasts was being arranged for tomorrow during the arrival and unloading of the cargo.
The South Santa Ana tract, where the thirty new homes will be built, was subdivided into half acre lots a year ago by Irwin and the entire sixty lots have been sold with seven new homes already built on the tract, with twenty-five garages now under construction for temporary living quarters until the new houses can be built. By September 15, Irwin says, there will be a house on each half acre lot. A grocery store is now being fitted up on the Newport harbor boulevard trontage of the tract and J. H. Manager E. A. Beard of the local office of the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company is in receipt of two letters commending him and his company as well as E. S. Morrow, district manager, for the part the company played in making the opening of the orange show such a success so far as the long distance telephone from President Harding is concerned.
One letter is from C. C. Chapman honorary president of the Valencia Orange show, who says: "I want to commend the spendid enterprise of your company in making through connections from Anaheim to the White House in Washington. Although, perhaps, but few of us fully realize what a remarkable scientific feat that was, it was really a wonderful achievement of genius and skill and a display of remarkable enterprise on the part of the management of your company."
The Chamber of Commerce through the orange show executive committee, authorized Secretary Manager Fraser to write to the district manager in part as follows:
"We feel a deep sense of gratitude for your warm and able co-operation in connection with our first year's venture. At the time President Harding signified his willingness to open our show, we had no idea that your company would come to our aid in such a magnificent way. Your installation of necessary machinery enabling us to listen to the voice of our first citizen was of incalculable benefit to this country as well as to our undertaking."
