TAKE STURGEON IN IRRIGATION DITCH
MERCED, Cal., May 16.—Another fish story, said to be actual fact this time by folks who consumed the steaks, is being told by Merced people to every person who ever angled or who is kin to anyone who has done so.
A sturgeon, which looked as big as a shark to the bewildering eyes of exploring small boys, was taken from an irrigation ditch near here. After being hauled from the water in an exhausted condition by men to whom the boys cried "fish" and killed by a well-almed bullet the fish was found to weigh 300 pounds.
The steaks consumed furnished the piece de resistance to nearly half the families in Stevinson county and started an epidemic of story telling, which bids fair to outlive the memory of the big sturgeon itself, according to the cynical comment of non-followers of Ike Walton.

Mr. and Mrs. Cochran of Valley View boulevard west of town are enjoying a visit from Mr. Cochran's aunt and uncle from Whittier.
Messrs. Al and Ed Brain and the Kuchel brothers, who have been working for the G. P. here since last summer, have been transferred to Huntington Beach and have already left.
The Burnison well south of town, which was expected to be a part of the new development around Yorba Linda, has not as yet given any real showing to make it what they thought it was, but it isn't given up yet. This will be quite a disappointment, if it proves to be a dry hole.
Mr. Fee has had an attack of pleurisy, but is feeling better again.
Mr. and Mrs. Bohannon's son who returned here and gave up the navy on account of ill health says he is feeling somewhat better. He was stationed off the coast of Maryland, and couldn't stand the climate there.
Mr. Murry Holine who moved from here to Huntington Beach three years ago will return to Yorba Linda again to make his home here.
J. W. Briggs of Bisbee, Arizona, who has been a guest at the Rice home for three weeks or more, has returned to his home.
