FARM DURING TO HAVE BIG PICNIC NEXT SATURDAY (Farm Bureau Bulletin) Leaders of farmers projects in the state and nation will feature the program of the Farm Bureau picnic at Orange county park next Saturday, May 14. Old Sol has agreed to cooperate with the Farm Bureau to the extent of a bright and sunny picnic day. Farmers' wives are preparing bountiful supplies for the picnic basket that day. A professional chef has been engaged to brew the finest flavored coffee obtainable for the thirsty tollers of the soil. Fun and Frolic The program and entertainment committees have left nothing undone in the way of providing an instructive and entertaining day for all. Fun and frolic for the young folks, including dancing, races, tug-of-war, boat races for girls and boat tilting contests. State Leaders Here Dr. W. H. Walker, president of the State Farm Bureau Federation, will address the assembly of farmers on national problems, including tariff, freight rates, and agricultural activities in Washington, D. C. Walker is acting on the executive committee of the American Farm Bureau Federation and has been in close touch with the vital problems of the producers. The public utilities department of the Farm Bureau and the big work it is doing in the state for farmer power users will be discussed by Dr. Walker also. R. B. Peters, vice-president of the state Farm Bureau Federation, will explain the Farm Bureau Market exchange, which has been adopted by seventeen counties of California. This Farm Bureau department is making thousands of dollars for the producer and saving thousands of dollars for the consumer. It is proving a shortcut from the producer to the consumer. Orange county farmers are urged especially to hear about this project. Farmers over the entire state are adopting the benefits of the exchange. University of California Represented Prof. L. B. Smith, assistant state leader of farm advisors, has agreed to explain the Relation Between the mile long. On this ranch they have worked out their own ideas on feed troughs, system of dipping and have a miniature locomotive pulling a patent feed car. The entire herd of some 1200 head can be fed in just forty minutes which shows a very efficient system is in operation. The Capistrano boys and girls are organized as a Farm Bureau Agricultural club. Each is feeding out a pure bred Duroc-Jersey barrow. Mr. Walker explained the points a feeder and butcher look for in market hogs and then outlined and gave a general discussion of what the pure bred breeders are working for as to type, quality and general conformation. The club was taken on the excursion by the Agricultural Club committee of Capistrano Farm Center, Aaron Buchheim, W. J. Callis, Frank Foster and Dave Ross. The boys and girls returned home determined to feed more carefully and take better care of their pigs. The committee is planning on having a big barbecue about July 2, for the club members when they close their contest. MAKE TEST CASE IN OVERLOADED TRUCK The case against F. G. Mayse and R. C. Hadley, charged with driving an overloaded truck on the county highway, is to be appealed to the superior court. Mayse and Hadley, who solidified Lumber Company, were found guilty by Judge Cox some time ago, and were fined $40 each, or $20 for each ton of the overload. Frank Richards, attorney for the lumber company, filed notice of ap- PIG CLUB KIDDIES VISIT POMONA'S HOG RANCHES (Farm Bureau Bulletin) Last Saturday four automobiles filled with the fourteen pig club members from Capistrano district drove to Diamond Bar hog ranch near Pomona and visited one of the most modern and fully equipped hog ranches on the Pacific coast. The party, accompanied by Assistant Farm Advisor Waters, arrived at the ranch about ten in the morning and were taken over the grounds and through every department by Manager R. K. Walker. He explained the Diamond Bar system of feeding, culling, fitting for show, and general management.
