County Servicemen M.Sgt. Charles V. Dawes, U.S. Army Recruiter, Anaheim, announces the assignment of Sgt. Elizabeth Kidder, Woman's Army Corps, as WAC recruiter for Northern Orange County. Sergeant Kidder was previously assigned as a WAC recruiter for Northern Alabama. She has served overseas in Japan and other interesting assignments have been instructor at the WAC administrative school and Army finance center. Young women between the ages of 18 and 34 who are interested in the Woman's Army Corps may call for appointment at KI 2-6160. Sgt. 1-c Salvador S. Gonzales, son of Mr. and Mrs. Balente L. Gonzales, Santa Ana, was scheduled to participate with the 101st Airborn Division, a major Strategic Army Corps (STRAC) unit, in a mock parachute assault on Pittsburg, Pa., on May 8. Approximately 700 paratroopers descended on a drop zone 10 miles southwest of the city and then staged an attack on a simulated aggressor force. The assault, followed by the unit's participation in a parade May 9, was in honor of Pittsburgh's bi-centennial celebration. Sergeant Gonzales, regularly assigned as a mess steward in the Mortary Battery of the division's 327th Infantry at Ft. Campbell, Ky., entered the Army in 1947. The sergeant was employed by Newport Canning Co., Newport, before entering the Army. His wife, Dorothy, is with him at the fort. Pfc. John D. Estes, whose parents live at 9801 Shaffer St., Orange, is scheduled to participate with the 4th Infantry Division, a major STRAC unit in Exercise Drum Hills which will be held here. Estes, whose parents live at 9801 Shaffer St., Orange, is scheduled to participate with the 4th Infantry Division, a major STRAC unit in Exercise Dry Hills, which will be conducted May 9-23 at the Yakima Firing Center in Washington. The exercise will involve 18,000 soldiers from military posts throughout the United States. Estes is regularly assigned as a record specialist at Ft. Lewis, Wash. He entered the Army in July 1958. He graduated from Orange High School in 1953 and from Pierce College, Woodland Hills in 1956. Estes's wife, Elizabeth lives in North Ridge, Calif. Marine Pfc. Kenneth D. Frazier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth S. Frazier of 8281 Orangethorpe Ave., Buena Park, is serving with the Third Marine Division which took part in Operation Sea Turtle, April 27-30 at Pohang, Korea. "Sea Turtle" was the largest combined U.S. and Republic of Korea amphibious exercise ever staged. Upon completion of the exercise, the Division returned to its home base at Okinawa. Pvt. Richard Aarvig, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Aarvig, 212 South Gertrude's place, Santa Ana, has completed basic training at Ft. Ord and was selected to attend the 11-weeks of Ordnance Electronics School at Ft. Monmouth, J.J. where he is now stationed. Army Sgt. 2-c James E. Roach, 30, whose wife, Herta lives at 145 South Princeton, Fullerton, completed a signal equipment maintenance course on April 17 at The Air Defense Center, Ft. Bliss, Tex. He was trained to perform maintenance on signal equipment connected with the Army's missile monitoring system. Roach entered the Army in Feb. 1946. He attended the Amarillo (Tex) High School. Robert C. Kohl, 24-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Kohl, who live at 1629 West Almond Ave., Orange, completed the eight-week basic Army administration course on April 17 at Ft. Ord. He received training in typing record keeping and Army clerical procedures. Kohl entered the Army last November and was sent to Ft. Ord for basic combat training. He is a 1954 graduate of Quentin Va.
