Garden Grove Women Get Drunk Driving Fines
SANTA ANA (OCNS) — Pauline Ravera, 42, Midway City bar owner of Garden Grove, was fined $263 and lost her license for 90 days after Municipal Judge David D. French convicted her of drunk driving, in a non-jury trial.
The woman, 42, of 12501 Groveview Ave., originally asked for a change of venue from the Huntington Beach - Seal Beach Justice court jurisdiction, on grounds that she was well known in the area and because of her occupation she feared she could not get a fair trial.
Mrs. Ravera was arrested by the California Highway Patrol, sitting in her car which had struck a house at 14921 Bewley St., Santa Ana, on Dec. 9, 1958.
Asleep in the home had been the Santa Ana couple and their five children. Injured in the collision was an infant in his crib. As a result of the accident, a lawsuit was filed in Superior Court against the Garden Grove woman.
Judge French imposed identical sentences on two other drunk drivers, and a stiffer penalty on one. Mike M. Del Villar, 41, of Corona, received a six month jail term which was suspended for five years on the condition that Del-Villar pay a $263 fine and lose his license for 90 days, except in the course of his work as a chauffeur. He was arrested in the Tustin area after an accident and had a 1943 drunk driving conviction on his record.
The other two fined and given license suspensions wege Phyllis Y. McKeever, 39, of 12302 Elmwood
St., Garden Grove, and Ward Skelton, 20, El Toro.
The garden Grove woman arrested in Orange March 27 Skelton was picked up in the city on April 19.
Boyd C. Hicks, 41, of 1122 Hwy. 101, Anaheim, receives $158 fine for reckless driving a drunk driving allegation was missed.
Judge Howard C. Cameron posed a 55-day jail sentence and one-year license suspension Victor Lee Thrope, 83, of 1122 Jackson St., Garden Grove, his second drunk driving conviction. Thrope was arrested in Santa Ana Canyon on Feb. 21.

Mayor's Pistol Shoot
Meet Set in County
By Orange County News Service
The date has been set when Mayors from Orange County cities will determine the "important decision as to what Mayor in Orange County is the best pistol shot."
Two years ago, Mayor Dale Heinly of Santa Ana won the trophy as "top gun," but newly incorporated cities thru their officials have challenged this honor.
As a result, Aug. 16 has been set as the day when Mayors will "bring about a burning desire to practice and heighten the already notable prestige" of their office, according to Sam Lyons of the Orange County Peace Officer's Association.
Lyons told OCNS trophies will be awarded first, second, and third places. "They are especially designed to look well on city hall desks," according to reports.

BP Urges Fullerton To Boost Tract Plans
FULLERTON, (OCNS) — A request from Buena Park officials for Fullerton to expedite tract plans in the northeast area and thereby possibly prevent the state from acquiring a permanent gravel borrow pit was "filed without action" by the city council this week.
Councilmen remarked that the state had moved the pit northwest-ly at Fullerton's request. Most of the gravel pit is now in Buena Park.
The request for joint action came in a letter from Warren J. Ferguson, Buena Park city attorney. He told Fullerton city fathers that the development of the Bellehurst tract, lying across the two cities' common boundaries "has been delayed by unjustifiable and arbitrary action on behalf of the State Highway Commission."
Ferguson wrote that the state has been trying for four years to condemn the property for a borrow pit. Sixty percent of the land is in Buena Park.
