Platter chatter by nolan blackman One of the newest things out of the Capitol direction is the Garland album, "Judy Garland at the Grove." The album is a recording of her very successful appearance a world-famous Cocoanut Grove. Her appearance there was another many triumphs in her long and almost historic career. JUDY GARLAND AT THE GROVE With PREDOY MARTIN AND THE ORCHESTRA The album opens with the Garland Overture, which is a mix of many Garland hits and all of the songs on the album. To find tunes including, "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart." When the Sun Comes Out," "After You've Gone" and a medley "You Made Me Love You," "For Me and My Gal," and "The Trunk Song." Since no album even connected with Judy would be com without "Over the Rainbow," you will hear this selection among others. Marriage Licenses Aberto Perez, 24, 11112 16th St., Garde Grove, Mary A. NEAR DISNEYLAND — Herbor at Katella Ph. JE 4-5050 Anaheim HOLLYWOOD (UPI) — Normally placid Ed Sullivan was bouncing off the ceiling and walls this week, wroth to a froth over the ridiculous number of television academy awards nominations. The frozen-faced one particularly was incensed that his own show failed to nail a single mention among the more than 190 nominations. Peculiarly, Ed's chief target was the TV academy itself, of which he is a trustee. Sullivan attacked the acad as short-sighted, provincial and worse. "The academy is making a laughing stock of itself," Sullivan said. "I'm really burned up about the stupid number of awards, and the outrageous fact that the Moiseyev dancers show—the biggest show I've ever presented—wasn't nominated. It had one of the highest ratings in history, and the show was so good we re-ran it by popular acclaim." Other Shows Worthy Ed had worked his Irish up but good, adding that his Brussels fair program and the Maurice Chevalier-Sophie Tucker show were worthy of nominations as well. "The Chevalier-Tucker night was one of the great moments in variety shows," he said. "It was a charming blend of two of the great performers of our time. We never got so much mail. "They weren't even considered. This is the most outrageous hoax ever perpetrated on the American public." Infuriated as he is about being skipped, Ed is more upset about conferences and were conned into falling over 42 nominations. "It's a two-way sop—to Hollywood and the sponsors. Most Hollywood shows are on film, so that's the way the vote went. And the sponsors are all for numerous Emmys so they can brag about the awards they've won." Ed then blasted the awards program—to be seen May 6. "We should eliminate one-network control of the program," he said. "NBC should not televise it exclusively, and it should not be sponsored."
