Tears of Joy, Despair Flow During By OSCAR FRALEY NEW YORK (UPI)—Tears of joy and of despair ran as profusely as perspiration in one of the most exciting week ends in sports history. No matter what you dish, it was there. And scrambling for top attention were a bargain buy English colt, a lanky pitcher whose career almost was ended two years ago, a heavyweight champion disappointed in victory, a muscular youngster earmarked for Olympian feats of strength, and a baseball manager for whom time simply ran out. Top interest was won by the little colt called Tomy Lee, a $6,700 buy whose earnings mount-ed to $371,617 as he won the Ken- tucky Derby and proved an old-tack room adage. They say in the jockeys' quarters that you'd have to shoot a rival between the eyes to have a foul claim upheld in the Derby. Therefore they don't even bother asking for an inquiry most times. Bulletin—B-3 Now During Exciting Week End 1,617 as he won the Kenerby and proved an old adage. Day in the jockeys' quart you'd have to shoot a between the eyes to have a arm upheld in the Derby. They don't even bother or an inquiry most times. Bill Boland, aboard Sword Dancer beaten a nose by Tomy Lee in the big race Saturday, did lodge a complaint because he was "bumped" a half dozen times by Willie Shoemaker aboard the winner. The $94,650 difference between the winner's $119,650 and the second place finisher's $25,000 made it worth the effort. Tomy Lee stayed up on the board as the winner. Floyd Patterson flattened Britaain's Brian London at Indianapolis on Friday night—and lost prestige in the easy victory. UPI's Jack Cuddy had it scored shutout before the knockout but London didn't hit hard enough to bruise Shirley Temple.
