First Local Boxing Card Wednesday
An international Boxing card was announced today for Wednesda- day's opening amateur fights in the Santa Ana National Guard Armory by Santa Ana Boxing Academy matchmaker Earl Bebe.
Academy officials have sched- gled eight fights featuring an am- ateur team from Mexicali, Mexico against a team of local fighters.
The armory is located on Delhi Road and will seat 1,000 Orange County fans. Tickets have been scaled at $1.75 ringside and $1.25 general admission. The opening fight will begin at 8:30.
Wednesday's feature bouts will be the double main event. The first half of the double main will match Santa Ana's colorful Dandy Del Duran (147) with Mexicali's Adolph Maya (147).
The second half of the main will pit Beto Maldinaldo (124) of Pa- colima against Conrado Perez (124) of Mexicali.
Duran was a finalist in the 1959 golden glove eliminations and cur- rently is the possessor of a 4-1 am- ateur record. Dandy Del will appear in his $2,500.00 zircon covered robe for his first fight before home town fans. Maldinaldo is the 1959 golden glove novice feather weight champion and owns a 5-0 record.

Tears of Joy, Despair Flow During
By OSCAR FRALEY
NEW YORK (UPI)—Tears of joy and of despair ran as profusely as perspiration in one of the most exciting week ends in sports history.
No matter what you dish, it was there. And scrambling for top attention were a bargain buy English colt, a lanky pitcher whose career almost was ended two years ago, a heavyweight champion disappointed in victory, a muscular youngster earmarked for Olympian feats of strength, and a baseball manager for whom time simply ran out.
Top interest was won by the little colt called Tomy Lee, a $6,700 buy whose earnings mount-ed to $371,617 as he won the Ken- tucky Derby and proved an old-tack room adage.
They say in the jockeys' quarters that you'd have to shoot a rival between the eyes to have a foul claim upheld in the Derby. Therefore they don't even bother asking for an inquiry most times.
