Stocks NEW YORK (UPI) — Stocks continued in an irregular pattern early today but with a firmer undertone than in recent sessions. Chrysler featured on a rise of nearly 2 points, more than recovering Thursday's drop. The corporation reported sharply higher first quarter results but retained the usual quarterly dividend rather than ordering an increase as had been expected in some quarters. Other motors were little changed. Thiokol Chemical stood out with a rise of nearly 3 points in the when-issued common. Among electronics, Zenith rose 9½. Litton 1½. Texas Instruments a point. Beckham 77a. Norwich Pharmaceutical over 2 in the drugs. Smith Kline & French, however, fell 1½. Goodrich and General Tire added 2 points each while Goodyear lost 1. Rails and utilities were little changed. Competition, according to the Sergeant, will be tiled and even a scrap of paper out place in the camping area will enough to cause the loss of poli Bookmaking Trial Dur For Decision in SA SANTA ANA (OCNS) — A man thon jury trial involving four Orange County residents charged with bookmaking is expected to conclude next Thursday, May with final arguments by the fence and prosecution. The court trial being heard Superior Judge Franklin G. W went into its 11th week Monday this week. On Wednesday afternoon Judge West, on the request of the attorneys, recessed the trial until May 7. Defendants in the case are Carella, Santa Ana, Edw Krausnich, Anaheim, Keith Grisha Orange and Margery Bux Huntington Beach. The four were arrested on dictions by the Orange County grand jury last July and accused of operating a horse betting out of a Santa Ana tire store from an apartment in the Tu area. The ring was reported to be $1,900 a day operation. Testifying Wednesday as retaliation witnesses were Sgt. R Curiale, District Attorney Invigator Frank Oxandaboure. Local Woman Reports Theft of Ruby Ring The theft of a gold, ruby-set ring was reported to Anaheim police yesterday afternoon by Mrs. Elise J. McDaniel of 1962 W. La Palma, although the time of the theft has been tentatively set as having occurred between 12:30 p.m. March 29 and 8:30 a.m. March 30. According to Mrs. McDaniel a party was in progress at her and her husband’s home and the possibility exists one of the guests might have taken the ring from her jewelry basket which was located that night on the bureau in the northwest bedroom. The ring, which is valued at $125, is described as a yellow gold band, 14 carat, with a high setting containing four triangular rubies. County Area Traffic Toll Stays Unchanged By Orange County News Service Despite a mounting toll of traffic fatalities so far this year in Orange County, the death rate in incorporated areas is the same as last year. In areas under the jurisdiction of the California Highway Patrol, 16 persons were killed in accidents since the first of the year. Last year, on this date, the total was also 16. Injuries from traffic crashes in incorporated areas are down 28 per cent. The total is 528 for this year, compared to 729 for 1958.
