Opening lead — ♠ K
West opened the king of spades. The singleton diamond would have been more effective, but West thought he didn't need ruffs with his strong trumps behind a suit that had been bid and rebid.
South won with the ace of spades and led a trump towards dummy. West played low, and dummy won with the queen. East's club discard gave South a nasty turn.
South saw that he had to get to his hand and lead another trump towards dummy in order to limit West to one trump trick. Unluckily for him, South got to his hand with DAILY QUESTION
As dealer, you hold: Spades 6 4 3 Hearts K Q 5 Diamonds K J 10 7 6 Clubs Q J. What do you say?
Answer: Pass. You have points, but you don't have an opening bid. Beware of relying on a double-ton queen-jack to make your hand worth a borderline opening bid.

The singleton diamond would have been more effective, butWest thought he didn't need ruffs withhis strong trumps behind a suitthat had been bid and rebid.
South won with the ace of spadesand leda trump towards dummy.West played low, and dummy wonwith the queen.East's club discard gave South a nasty turn.
South saw that he had to getto his hand and lead another trumptowards dummy in order to limitWest to one trump trick.Unluckilyfork him, South got to his hand withthe ace of diamonds.
Now West stepped up withtheace of hearts, cashed thequeenofspades, andleada club.East won with the kingofclubs and returneda diamond forhis partner to ruff.
Two trumps,a spade, anda clubwere enough to defeatthecontract.
Time The Club
South made his mistakewhenhe leda diamondto his ace.Thecorrect play is to giveup a clubtrick then and there.
There's no real chance of savingthat club trick whenWest takeshis ace of hearts,he will surelycash the queen of spades andleada club.
What is the advantage ofleadinga club early rather than late?Thetrick is given to East before hecan strikea blow for his side.East gains nothing by leadinga diamond, since West must stillfollow suit.
South can get to his hand to leada trump towards dummy eitherwith a diamond or by ruffinga club.
