New Beauty for You!
By IRIS LYNNE
What is "moisture balm," or moisturizers?
They are the revolutionary new creams and lotions, most always lotions, that protect the skin during the day and provide grease-less protection while you sleep.
A moisturizer should be used under any powder base. For those fortunate few who can forego powderbase, then a moisturizer acts as a protection in itself. They keep the skin soft and supple, help to smooth - on foundation to a natural finish, give the complexion a moist but-not-greasy look, and are the greatest asset to dry skin since our ancestors left foggy London, or any other moist climate.
For the busy housewife a thorough application of her favorite moisture balm is a must. Foundation may be added later, or simply an application of eye makeup and lipstick will see her through a day at home.
The American Way of Life means well - heated homes and offices, which mean solid comfort, but add up to a lot of parched and dry skin for most American women. Moisture balm to the rescue! And rescue you it will — from over - dry skin with a drawn dry feeling.
Many moisturizers have the added advantage of imparting hormones to the skin. These little hard-working agents immediately plump - up the tissues, aiding them to retain moisture, thereby creating a youthful looking skin, also thereby eliminating and avoiding many a wrinkle. Character lines are another thing entirely.

United Cerebral Shows Imminent
The 1958 report of United Cerebral Palsy's Research and Educational Foundation indicates that major breakthroughs in the field of cerebral palsy are not only possible but may happen in the near future. This is according to T. Theodore Schoppie, president UCP of Orange County.
Dr. Schoppie said the latest port, received by the local UCP affiliates today, notes that several important findings in research show considerable promise in terminating the causes of cerebral palsy, finding methods of prevention and improving current treatment.
Among these findings is a series of studies directed toward treatment of maternal and paternal conditions.
New Wing at Good Shepherd Home In Terra Bella To Be Dedicated
The dedication date for the completion of a new wing at the Good Shepherd Home for mentally retarded children at Terra Bella, Calif., is scheduled for May 10 at 2:30. The children will be present at the dedication. They won't realize what "dedication" means, but they will know this is something special for them. Just as proud will be the members of the Good Shepherd Home Auxiliary, who recently contributed $13,000 to help finance the construction of the new wing.
A record attendance is expected at the dedication. A special train has been chartered to cumulate the new wing. With a membership of 4,000, extending into 15 western states, the women adopted a $850 goal for 1959, aimed to provide furnishings and equipment for the new wing.
To aid the Home materially, the Auxiliary sponsors many seasonal projects and also maintains a Gift Shop in Anaheim, but depends mostly on the prayers of all Christian people and the 4,000 Christian women to guide the destiny of these mentally retarded children.
Mrs. Arnold Otte and Mrs. Hry Bamesberger, both of Anaheim serve on the executive board of California Unit. In addition, she

The look to strive for is a well - cared for, moist looking complexion; one with an enviable radiance. One that a wisely and regularly used moisture balm can bring about.
Dear Iris Lynne: Is it true that two - pieced swim suits will be in vogue again this year? Mrs. G.C.
Dear Mrs. G.C.: It is indeed true that two - pieced swim suits are already in Vogue this year, and also in Charm, Glamour, and Harpers Bazaar. Pardon the pun, but you really will see lots of these suits this year as well as short, some - skin-above - the waist-showing tops for shorts and even for wearing with skirts.
Write to Iris Lynne in care of this paper.
A record attendance is expected at the dedication. A special train has been chartered to cumulate at least 300 people to this event from the Southern California area.
The Good Shepherd Lutheran Home of the West, located at Terra Bella, is a non - profit corporation for the housing, care and instruction of mentally retarded children who will never be able to live as you and I. At the Home, they are able to receive training which often gives them an opportunity to more nearly enjoy a normal life.
Children of all creeds are accepted, but due to lack of facilities, only 36 can be served in their first unit. Another unit is urgently needed to accommodate those on the waiting list.

United Cerebral Palsy Research shows Imminent Major Advances
1958 report of United Cerebral Palsy's Research and Education Foundation indicates that breakthroughs in the field cerebral palsy are not only possible the virtual elimination of kernicterus as a serious problem in cerebral palsy.
Clinical Program
Another development, according to the report, is the clinical application of basic research findings which now makes it possible for the neurosurgeon to remove subdural hematomas relatively soon after their occurrence in order to eliminate the resulting brain damage.
Dr. Schoppe said the report further shows that, because cerebral palsy is outside of the boundaries of a socialised cure, the universal goal of all research in cerebral palsy is to provide a means or a series of means, of prevention. Because the task is urgent and one which involves virtually every technique employed by medical scientists to date, United Cerebral Palsy and its Research and Educational Foundation are placing more and more emphasis on basic and applied research and training of professional personnel.
The report notes that in 1958, United Cerebral Palsy awarded 60 grants and Fellowships and 58 training scholarships. Since its founding in 1949 United Cerebral Palsy has invested nearly $4,000,000 in research and training grants.
