HOLLYWOOD — Alena Murray who playmakes a show gal who baby has no legitimate papa “Say One For Me,” doesn’t hold with the oft-heard wall from his sex; “There just aren’t enough men in Hollywood to go around.” “What they mean,” expounds Alena, “is that there aren’t enough escorts among the actors producers and directors in the dustry. Personally, I see no reason to limit dates to the entertainment field. I think it’s more fascinating to listen to conversation about matters outside my profession, as men not concerned with the movie and who know little about it, more interested to hear about from me.
“Unfortunately, girls are prone to limit themselves socially to the business acquaintances. They should get out on the golf lime the yacht clubs, the tennis courts the swimming and hiking and fishing clubs. If they are more interested in the sports men pursue, they won’t have to call up girl friends.”

DEAR ABBY... Wise Him Up, Honey!
by Abigail Van Buren
DEAR ABBY: I am the most shocked woman living. There is a woman friend of mine ten years older than I am and she confided in me that my husband had been to her home twice without my knowledge and made advances to her. She said she had to run around the kitchen table to get away from him when he tried to give her a birthday kiss. She never cared for him (she is married) and still doesn't. She also confided this incident to her husband. She is leaving it up to me as to what to do. I am 51, my husband is 50, and this woman is 61.
SHOCKED
DEAR SHOCKED: Your friend (?) has done a lot of confiding. Tell your husband he is unwise to try to kiss a woman who has such a big mouth. He'll understand.
DEAR ABBY: To the husband of "STUMPED" who says that children should learn to sit in church quietly at an early age, I would suggest that someone arrange for him to sit for one hour or more on a hardwood seat, too high for his feet to reach the floor and too wide for him to touch the back without having his feet stick straight out in front of him. Place a taller person in front of him so that he can't see without stretching his neck. Then have someone up front reading aloud the writings of Aristotle (in Greek). I think he would not only become "restless"—he would be fit to be tied.
GRANDMOTHER
DEAR ABY: A well-to-do widow recently asked your advice on how to get a man who wasn't a golddigger. You referred to them (the men) as rats after cheese. I would like to clear up that issue because I am one. Most of us have been born poor. We make enough to live on but not enough to do the things we would like to do. Today it is impossible to make a fortune legally. If we do, we are too old and sick enjoy it. A rich wife would solve everything. I am 36 years old and support myself, my aged parents and a sickly brother. This leaves me nothing for luxuries. Is there anything wrong with my wanting a rich wife? Sincerely yours.
GOLD-DIGGER
DEAR GOLD-DIGGER: A "wife" (rich or poor) is still a woman. Women need to be loved for themselves. Cold hard cash attracts cold, hard people. There is nothing "wrong" with your wanting her—but don't be hurt if she doesn't want you.
DEAR ABY: It has taken a long time for me to get up the nerve to write to you. I've been married 16 years to a woman whose voice is driving me crazy! She shouts in normal conversation, screams over the phone and can be heard all over the neighborhood. When we eat in a restaurant all you can hear is my wife. Can anything be done about

HOLLYWOOD — Alena Murray, playmaker makes a show gal whose has no legitimate papa in One For Me,” doesn’t hold the off-heard wail from her “There just aren’t enough on Hollywood to go around.” that they mean,” expounded “is that there aren’t enough escorts among the actors, actors and directors in the industry.” Personally, I see no reason it dates to the entertainment I think it’s more fascinating listen to conversation about arts outside my profession, and not concerned with the movies who know little about it, are interested to hear about it me.
Fortunately, girls are prone to get out on the golf links, beach clubs, the tennis courts, swimming and hiking and fish-bubs. If they are more interest-the sports men pursue, they have to call up girl friends to ask if they can find an escort.” Alena enjoys the distinction of being the only femme member of the Toyon Club of Catalina. “This Earth is Mine” is an earthy situation that gets off to a slow start but builds to a terrific climax. Good entertainment and a great cast, with Rock Hudson, Jean Simmons, Dorothy McGuire and Claude Rains.
“Watusi” is another of those jungle adventure thrillers(?) which was so similar to “King Solomon’ Mines” I felt I was seeing an old picture. Very little to recommend this one.
Jeanne Crain will play Laura Riley, a beautiful and independent ranch owner, In “Guns of the Timberland,” with Gilbert Roland, who portrays Monty Walker, a hard-drinking and rugged logger of the Northwest.
Barbara Rush tells me she once had a yen to be a newspaper gal and got her first taste of printer’s ink covering the court beat for the Santa Barbara News Press.
After the preview of “Last Train from Gun Hill,” Hal Wallis threw a whirling at Chasens, replete with dance hall “floozies” and waiters in Western garb. Door prizes were a week end at Las Vegas (for two), a live heifer, a toy train and a magnum of champagne.
All that knitting Karen Steele does while she emotes in “Westbound” isn’t a lost cause. She completed a pair of socks for director Budd Boetticher.
Not only will Pat Boone star in “Journey to the Center of the Earth” but his independent company will produce the film.

CHICAGO (UPI) — Al Lopez of the Chicago White Sox owns the Cooper, currently starring with Charlton Heston in MGM’s “The Wreck of the Mary Deare,” say he isn’t trying to be the riches actor.
My hope is that I can save enough capital to make a picture someday exactly the way I want to do it,” he grinned. “But tax are so high the amount I’ve bee able to save is ridiculously small.” I have a fixed price, and I stick to it.”

UPI Hollywood Correspondent
HOLLYWOOD (UPI) — Gary Cooper, miffed at the criticism of actors' gargantuan salaries, today rapped back at producers, saying the picture-takers are the ones writing the checks.
Without employing a solitary “yup” or “nope,” Coop waxed eloquent in defense of his fellow performers.
“Actors aren’t hurting the movie business by drawing big pay-checks,” he said. “The producers who squawk the most are the ones who are most willing to pay, because they hope to make even more money. If the actors weren't worth what they're getting, don't think for one minute production companies would be paying out all that loot.”
Most vociferous objector to star salaries is Sam Goldwyn, who, upon hearing that William Holden and John Wayne were drawing $750,000 each for a new movie, blasted actors as traitors to the industry.
“Holden and Wayne aren't taking chances on a percentage deal,” the rangy Cooper went on. "Why should they have to worry about the fluctuating currency in foreign countries and box office problems in this country. They"

Reasonable Bid
The overcall of one notrump shows 16 to 18 points, balanced distribution, and at least one stopper in the suit bid by the enemy. Even a hand of this strength may be severely punished, as shown in a hand sent to me by Tom H. Peebles, of Stellarton, Nova Scotia.

West opened the eight of diamonds, and East took the ace and king. Wondering why West had doubled, East led the ace of hearts. This drew the discouraging deuce from West, so East shifted to thealty of 2,000 points! This was not a record. Mr. Peebles observes, as it was not redoubled. (Even 4,000 points wouldn't be a record. One of the best players in the world went for a 4,600-point ride in front of my eyes one night in New York's famous Cavendish Club. I'm glad to say that he wasn't my partner that night!)
"But tell us," asks Mr. Peebles, "where did the bidding go wrong? What are your suggestions to avoid a debacle like this again?"
My first suggestion is to carry a good reliable rabbit's foot to ward off a calamity of this kind. The next is to get a partner who will run to a five-card suit after the double of one notrump. Nothing terrible could happen to North-at two clubs — but then this heart-wringing tale from Acadia would have died abnormally.
Daily Question
Partner opens with one notrump, and the next player doubles. You hold: Spades 8 6 4 Hearts 8 5 4 3 Diamond J Clubs 9 8 6 4 3. What do you say?
Answer: Bid two clubs. Run to any five-card or longer suit when your partner is doubled at one notrump — if your hand is very weak. Your hand may be worth three or four tricks at the suit but may be worthless at notrump.

West opened the eight of diamonds, and East took the ace and king. Wondering why West had doubled, East led the ace of hearts. This drew the discouraging deuce from West, so East shifted to the jack of spades. West promptly ran his seven spade tricks. East threw away his small red cards, saving only the three clubs.
Continuing Squeeze
South was now caught in a continuing squeeze. He had to reduce to three cards. He decided to save the king of hearts and two clubs, throwing away his last diamond.
West now produced the deuce of diamonds, and South was squeezed again. If South discarded a club, West would lead a club to his partner's ace-jack. If South instead, discarded the king of hearts, West would cash the ten of hearts and then lead a club to his partner's ace.
South didn't take a single trick, and the defenders scored a pen.
