TAKING A BOW—After the triumphal opening of the Beryozka Russian Folk Ballet in New York, three of the all-girl members celebrated by trying out an old-fashioned American ice cream soda. After a five-week engagement on Broadway, the troupe will make a tour of the U.S. At the annual International Feline Exposition in Paris, Claudie Rennesson managed to get acquainted with five of the small Siamese exhibits. The kittens were part of the collection in the French capital. THEY'RE TALL—Some Douglas fir trees, the towering sentinels of the Pacific Northwest, seem to be brushing the clouds as they climb dramatically skyward at Cathlamet, Wash. They're among many at a tree farm in Wahkiakum County. Sensel, 76, uses a grain drill that's been in good working order since he bought it 51 years ago. Sensel got it for $65 and has used it all those years on his farm at Ashley, Ill. It sows eight rows at a time, about one-third the spread of a modern, tractor-pulled drill. FROM FAR AWAY—Indian movie star Sheila Ramani arrived at New York's International Airport from Bombay. A SAW SPOT—A couple of Chinese lumberjacks are working with saw and ax to topple a gnarled old cypress tree on the island of Taiwan (Formosa). Working in the island's mountain forests, 6,000 feet above sea level, two-man teams like this one can fell an 80-feet-tall tree in less than an hour. It all helps swell the island's considerable lumber production. BACK TO WORK—Silent screen star Blanche Sweet (center) is returning to work at Hollywood after an absence of many years. Miss Sweet is shown going over a script for a TV installment of "The Thin Man" with stars Phyllis Kirk and Peter Lawford. She'll soon appear in one with them. ANGEL OF MERCY—Helping to brighten darkest Africa is Canadian Sister Superior Marie de Lourdes, of Montreal, who's greeting a tiny patient carried on his mother's back at Katete, in central Nyasaland. The child is at a hospital run by Sisters from all over Canada at their mission school. COMPLETELY MODERN—As that totem pole looks on disapprovingly, Louise Osceola, a Miccosukee Seminole Indian, use the first electric sewing machine ever acquired by her tribe in Florida's Everglades. At long last, they have a replacement for the hand-cranked models they've used before. FISI OU' OI WATER—After removing a catarac from the eye of a rare Celestial-Eyed Veiltail fish in London Dr. Reginald Dutta is preparing to return it to its tank. The extra hand belongs to an assistant using a hypodermic to administer a stimulant to the fish. Dr. Dutta has operated on pet fish sent to him from many parts of the world.
