Deaf Mute Cleared of Molestation Charge
STANTON (OCNS). — A deaf mute accused of molesting a five-year-old Stanton girl had his case dismissed after a superior court judge ruled the youngster was an incompetent witness.
OCNS learned of this information following the conclusion of the trial late yesterday.

Education Reshuffled
In New State Bill
SACRAMENTO (UPI)—Another bill designed to reshuffle the top command of education in California was introduced Wednesday in the Legislature.
The measure by Assemblyman Carl A Britschgl (R-Redwood City) calls for an elected 11-member Board of Education whose members would serve staggered terms ranging from four to 10 years.
The board would assume powers now held by the superintendent of public instruction and the Department of Education. The superintendent, now an elected official, would be appointed by the board.

South got back to his hand with the ace of hearts to lead the nine of diamonds, but West very properly refused to cover with the ten. South's nine of diamonds held the trick, but there was no way to reach the dummy for the jack and the seven of diamonds.
South could have made his contract at almost any stage by way of a squeeze or an end-play, particularly if he had refused a spade trick earlier. There was, however, no need for any such brilliance.
GET OUT OF OWN WAY
South can easily make nine tricks if he gets out of his own way. Just look at the diamonds and note that South's eight and nine are no better than dummy's seven and six.
Having made this important observation, South should begin the diamonds by leading the eight. Dummy's king loses to the ace, and South later leads the nine of diamonds to dummy's queen. This leaves the three of diamonds in declarer's hand.
When East discards a heart on the second diamond, South can lead his three of diamonds for a finesse through West. Dummy can win the finesse with the seven of diamonds and can then continue with the jack and six of diamonds.

When East discards a heart on the second diamond, South can lead his three of diamonds for a finesse through West. Dummy can win the finesse with the seven of diamonds and can then continue with the jack and six of diamonds.
The important principle is to unblock your spot cards to make a later finesse possible. If no finesse is needed later on, you have lost nothing.
DAILY QUESTION
Partner opens the bidding with three notrump, and the next player passes. You hold: Spade 6 4 2, heart 7 5 3, diamond K Q J 7 6, club Q 6. What do you say?
Answer: Bid six notrump. Partner's bid shows 25 to 27 points, and your own 8 points make a combiden count of 33 to 35 points. This should be enough for a small slam.
