Bulletin—A-5 Junior Federated Women's Confab In Session at Disneyland Hotel Orange District Federated Women's Club convention opened this morning at 10 o'clock with heavy registration from delegates and lay members from county clubs. "It's a Woman's World" is the theme of the sessions, all being held at the Disneyland Hotel. The convention will conclude with a gala banquet tonight in the Gourmet Restaurant. The Santa Ana Canyon Juniors are the hostesses for the banquet, with Mrs. William Starke and Mrs. John Dilworth as co-chairmen, to be assisted by their club members. Mrs. Dilworth, as decorations chairman, has been assisted by Mrs. Howard Luchau, and Mrs. Thea Henning. The installation of officers conducted by Mrs. Lyle Schermitler, vice-president of Area D, was a highlight of the day with club presidents honored at luncheon time. Mrs. W. L. Catlinger officiated at the ceremony for the graduating juniors. A social hour at 6 p.m. precedes the banquet tonight when Mrs. Walter Dabney, dean of chairman, will introduce the district chairmen. Trophies and certificates for outstanding achievements. Voters To Choose New Study The choice of a new local study for the Fullerton League of Women Volunteers will be made at an annual meeting to be held tonight at Fullerton Junior College (south lounge) at 7:45. Possible choices of study topics include methods of establishing adequate Mental Health Services for Orange County, and methods of achieving effective city planning in the best public interest. THIS YEAR'S TRENDS Jan O'Brien Gives Fashion Talk at Panhellenic Meeting Miss Jan O'Brien, publicity director and fashion coordinator of Bullock's, Santa Ana, spoke on "New Fashion Trends" at the Northern Orange County Panhellenic monthly meeting. She was assisted by sportswear department manager and millinery department manager. They stated that this was the year for Romance in Fashion with a tendency toward the Chanel look of casualness and wider sleeves, shorter jackets. Predominant colors, for this prettiest summer ever in clothes, will be red, soft willow green, citrus yellow. The choice of a new local study for the Fullerton League of Women Voters will be made at an annual meeting to be held tonight at Fullerton Junior College (south lounge) at 7:45. Possible choices of study topics include methods of establishing adequate Mental Health Services for Orange County, and methods of achieving effective city planning in the best public interest. These two items were selected by board members from a list of six submitted from member's discussion units. Other topics under consideration were the pros and cons of unified school districting for the city of Fullerton, charter vs. general law government for the city of Fullerton, county and city tax structures and coordination of municipal governments in a metropolitan area. Voting will also take place on the list of candidates presented by the nominating committee. Plans for the May Finance Drive will be presented to the membership in a report by Mrs. Walter McConnell. A President's Report from Mrs. Kenneth Green will recap the year's activities of the local League. Hostesses for the evening meeting will be Miss Dora Ritko, chairman, the Mmes. Donald Donato, Charles E. Downey, Beatrice McIntyre, and Forest Pugh. Diane Bradd Chosen For Education Tour Diane Bradd of Anaheim, president of the Senior High MYF at the First Methodist Church, has been chosen with 30 other youths to go on the Third Annual Missionary Education Tour. May Tea Date The annual May tea, which will be held at the Assistance League Clubhouse in Anaheim, from two to four o'clock, May 3, was the main order of business, at which Mrs. Kenneth Knutzen, presided. The Dean of Women from Long Beach State will be the guest speaker, with skits and music presented by college girls from Long Beach State. Interested girls may contact the Deans of Individual schools. Marathon Bridge prizes were awarded with Mrs. W. J. Armstrong and Mrs. Fred Jennings, first; Mrs. Paul Baker and Mrs. G. C. Beale, second; and Mrs. Marcus Wood and Mrs. W. B. Mackie third. Guests attending were Mrs. Courtney Casebeer, Mrs. Leland Hanson, Mrs. Robert Kelley, Mrs. Stanley Robinson, Mrs. Robert Querry, Mrs. R. W. DeMott, Mrs. J. McLAUGHLIN married 50 years ago McLaughlins Observe Golden Wedding Date At an intimate family dinner held at Knott's Berry Farm, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. McLaughlin of 316 N. Philadelphia St. gathered with relatives to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. Henrietta Price and Charles McLaughlin were married in Ada, Kan., April 4, 1909 at the home of the bride's parents. They made their home on a farm nearby where the bridegroom gradually built up a fine dairy herd. In 1927 they bought a large dairy farm near Eisenhower Park in Abiline, Kan., and moved their herd there where they lived for 15 years. They bought a general store northwest of Salina, Kan., and operated it until their retirement in 1950 when they came to Anaheim to make their home. Their only child, Darrel McLaughlin and his family have lived here since 1942. He is associated with the City Schools Gardening Department. The bride of 50 years was presented with a television set as an anniversary gift from her husband and son. The couple received many greetings and gifts from far and near. Santa Ana Toastmistresses, Philomelas Slate Joint Meet The Santa Ana Toastmistress Club will convene with the Philomela Club for a joint meeting Thursday, April 23. Mrs. Robert C. Morgan, president of Philomela, will preside with program assignments to be equally shared by the clubs. At the last meeting of Philomela, seven-minute speeches were presented by Mrs. Thomas Hagen, Mrs. James Jones, and Mrs. Morgan. Mrs. Hagen compared socialism with the American way of life. She showed her audience how socialism is a decadent failure, and admonished them to not sell short America's democratic form of government. Mrs. Jones humorously covered the ever-present problem of income-taxes, and the last minute rush to send in payment. Mrs. Morgan told the history of Boy Scouting in America in the topic "And The Little Seed Grew." The speakers were introduced by Toastmistress Mrs. Ronald Smith. Presiding was Mrs. Daniel Hailey, vice-president with Mr. William Powell as topic mistress. Her participants presented three minute talks as follow-up to workshop on impromptu speaking. The entire meeting was evaluated by Mrs. John Pherigo. Serving on her panel were Mrs. Billy Wilson and Miss Ethel Ruth Gibbony. Miss Gibbony was elected delegate to the Southwest Regional Conference in Santa Barbara June 6 & 7. She will represent Philomela in voting on Regional Bills and election of Regional officers. Guests attending were Mrs. Janne Berns, and Mrs. Ray Metger. JUNE NUPTIALS — Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth E. Stevens of 1101 N. Palm have announced the engagement of their daughter Linda to Arnest Sherrill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack D. Sherrill of 130 N. Correll, Fullerton. The bride-elect is a graduate of Anahelm Union High School and is now a student at Chapman College, majoring in education. Her fiance is a native of Candler, N.C., and received his education there. He is employed at Delco Battery Operations. The couple will be married June 26. Speakers Record Own Voices Members and guests of the Fullerton Toastmistress Club were given the opportunity to hear how their voices sound to others when they met recently in a session featuring a tape-recorder. Mrs. Murray Hoffman presided. Everyone attending, guests as well as members, gave either a reading or a speech which was delivered over the tape-recorder, and during the social and refreshment time, later, the recorder was played back, giving everyone the opportunity to hear how he really sounds as he speaks. Toastmistress for the evening was Mrs. Edward Schnahel and the topicmistress was Mrs. Robert Gray. Winner of the topics trophy was Mrs. James Grant. Mrs. Ruby Jencks was inducted into the club at this meeting. Guests present were Mrs. A. Wilson, Mrs. Floyd Smeltz, Mrs. A. Griffin, and Mrs. Robert Morgan, president of the Philomela Toastmistress Club of Anaheim. A workshop will be held in the teachers' lounge at the Richman School in Fullerton today. Guest for the evening will be Russ Larrae who will give instructions and help on using gestures in speaking. Women interested in self-improvement and leadership training through the Fullerton Toastmistress Club are invited to attend meetings which are held in the teachers' lounge of the Richman School, 700 S. The bridegroom's mother wore a blue sheath dress with pink accessories and a corsage of pink rosebuds. Traditional White Given in marriage by her father, the bride entered the church wearing a full length gown in traditional white fashioned of lace and tulle over taffeta with lace bodice, tapered sleeves, stand-up collar and lace and tulle skirt trimmed with iridescent sequins and seed pearls. A Juliet cap trimmed with seed pearls held her fingertip veil to her short, dark hair, and a white-bound prayerbook covered with a whitig orchid and lilles-of-the-valley completed her ensemble. Three attendants, dressed identically, attended the bride. Their ballerina gowns were fashioned of smoke-blue crystalette, and blue halo clips held short circle vells to their hair. They all carried bouquets of carnations and gladioli. Attendants Named Matron of honor was Mrs. Stanley Klein, sister-in-law of the bridegroom. Bridesmaids were Miss Thelma Lyon of Buena Park and Miss Janet Lee Wilson of Anaheim. Flower girl was Penny Hummel, cousin of the bride, who wore a fluffy white organdy over blue taffeta. James Lynn Kirkhart of Anaheim served as bestman, while Jerry McMahon and Stanley Klein, brother of the bridegroom, both of Anaheim, escorted guests to their places. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Howard chose a beige crystalette sheath dress with matching hat and gloves and a corsage of pink rosebuds. The bridegroom's mother wore a blue sheath dress with pink accessories and a corsage of pink rosebuds. Special guests attending the wedding were the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Olive Edwards; an uncle, Jack C. Edwards; and a cousin, Clinton Edwards, all of Portland, Ore. For a honeymoon trip to Palm Springs, the new Mrs. Klein later changed to a soft blue suit with white accessories and the orchid from her bridal bouquet. The bride is a former resident of Portland, Ore. Prior to her marriage she was employed by Pacific Telephone in Garden Union High School. He attended Orange Coast College and is now employed by North American in Downey. The couple will make their home at Olive Park Apartments in Anaheim. Mrs. C. Morris Is New President of Walt Disney PTA Mrs. Charles Morris was installed as president of Walt Disney Parent Teacher Association in an installation ceremony held this week in the multi-purpose room at Walt Disney School. Mrs. Morris was recently awarded a life membership in the organization in surprise presentation. She is one of the four founders of the Walt Disney PTA and has been active in Scout Council and PTA Council in Anaheim.
