SPRING IS HERE — What better place for Orange Coast College to practice for the spring concert to be given in recognition of Public Schools Week than outside among the birds and bees. Keryn McNamara of Dana Point (right) plays the piedpiper and leads the group in practice. She will participate in the concert choir, women’s glee club, concert band, symphonic dance band. Bulletin Thursday, April 16, 1938 County Music Students To Perform in Concert With All-Southern California High School Band The All-Southern California High School Symphonic Band will be heard in concert for the first time this year on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Fullerton High School Auditorium. Organized annually by the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association the band is comprised of some of the most outstanding high school musicians from the entire Southern California area. Included in the band from Orange County were: Larry Gillette, clarinet, Santa Ana; Carita Corred, solo cornet, Garden Grove; Larry Larson, tuba, Karl Pagel, percussion, Dennis Littleworth, trumpet, David Schaefer, clarinet, Suzanne Spatzier and Janet Lunde, flutes, all of Fullerton. Nelson Bonar of Fullerton High School is the director of the band this year; Mervin Corner, Santa Ana City School, manager. The Fullerton Concert will be the first performance in Orange County by such a group, and will be followed by appearances in several other southland communities. According to Corner, the group will play for music educators and students at the South California Regional Music Festival April 24th at Los Angeles College, then will give concerts on successive Sundays tentatively in Santa Monica and Riverland and end their season with a final tour on May 18th that include Santa Paula and Caster. Admission to the Fullerton concert is reasonable. Tickets may be obtained at the box office, will open at 3 p.m., April 19th, or further information call LAmbro 1601. ‘Stars-on-Wheels’ Perform In ‘Roller Vanities’ Several Anaheim youths will “stars on wheels” at the beach skating revue “Roller Vans” April 19 and 20 at the Meadow Roller Rink in Fullerton. “Youth helps youth” as the of 80 young skaters from Heim, Fullerton, Brea, Place La Habra and Garden Grove together in giving these performances for the United lerion Fund. The fund includes many youth serving agencies as Boy and Girl Scouts, YMCA Boys Club and Junior Red Cross. The editorial explained the junior college system of California. White won his award for his write-up of a Hornet football game. Since then, at the end of the semester, he left college to do active newspaper work. Fullerton JC students representing FJC at the affair were Hornet Editor Mary Jane Findley of Fullerton, Dick Seelmeyer of Fullerton, and Louis Calvery of La Mirada. 'Art Mart' at Zion Lutheran Set for Sunday An informal "Art Mart" will be held Sunday, April. 19 from 2 to 5 p.m., in Zion Lutheran parish hall, with a number of guest artists showing work along with the sponsoring Zion Lutheran Art Group. Admission is free. Invited to participate are adult members of the art departments of Anaheim Union High School and Lutheran High School of Los Angeles, as well as Anaheim Presbyterian Art Assn. Several door prizes have been donated for visitors to the non-juried show. The paintings that are to be sold will be marked reasonably in an effort by the group to encourage "live" purchases. They plan an 11-week season, featuring six top notch Broadway plays. Due to the overwhelming reception of the shows by area residents, Producer Sherwood Price will move the theatre into new, larger quarters at Tustin High School this summer. The new theatre will be equipped with a proscenium stage, which marks a change from their former central-staged productions. Producer Price will again bring in professional actors and directors from the fields of stage, motion pictures and television, drawing from both the ranks of Hollywood and New York talent. The company will also be augmented by young student apprentices from schools and colleges throughout the United States, who will assist in all phases of performance and production work. In addition to the nightly performances of the Broadway show there will also be weekly productions of children's plays for youngsters of the area. Performances for the United Fulton Fund. The revue, under the direction Merilark's professional, George Montemp, consists of a blues nummer with Black Magic and Rhapely in Blue furnishing backround for free style skating which breathtaking jumps, spins, and features many fantastic and girls not only singly but in pairs, pairs and sixes. Dance skating both in waltz and blues tempo will be performed along with a skating chorus of young skaters from the age of six. Another feature of the show will be an "Out of this World" number with men from outer space — only they are on roller coasters not on space ships. Brookhurst Coed Wickie Flebiger, a Brookhurst Senior High student is one of the featured skaters, doing many interesting skating numbers both in dance and free style. Jill Davis, another Brookhurst student is a member of the fours-troop, and her partner will lift, swing and twirl in very daring feats. Robert Bouland, and Anaheim High student is a member of the foursome and does fantastic team work on states with his partner, Judy Potter of Garden Grove. From Anaheim Karen Carter, an Anaheim High sophomore, waltzes to enchanting arrangement, with little Donna and Rebbie Minney, ages five and seven, as partners. Judy Barnes, a high school senior, is skating a dance routine with James Malead. Other Anaheim youngsters in the cast are Chuck Mihlbauer, Diddle Meeks, Tommy and Jessica Johnston. Performances will be given twice daily at 5:30 and 8:00 p.m. on both Sunday and Monday, April 19 and 20. Tickets may be secured from the cast members or the rink. Here and There Because there are still several principle and minor roles that have not been cast, dancers, singers, actors and actresses are urged to audition for the Whittier Light Opera Association's coming production, "The Pajama Game," tonight at 8, Bailey Auditorium, 215 W. Hadley, Whittier. Singers will also try-out Friday. Male dancers, in particular, are needed for the dancing ensemble, stated choreographer Raoul Appel. The Associated Student Body of Occidental College will hold a public Campus Day Jazz Concert on Thursday, April 23, representing the Shelly Manne Jazz Quintet and the Firehouse Five Plus Two. The 8:15 p.m. program in Thorne Hall will be highlighted by the jazz technique of Shelly Manne, recognized as one of the nation's finest drummers in jazz. The Forty Plus or Minus Club of Pomona will hold its regular third Saturday dance at the new Palomares Clubhouse at North Orange Grove and Cucamonga Avenue. Pomona from 8:30 to 12:00 p.m. A rummage sale will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 126 S. Los Angeles St., Anaheim. UNIVERSITY DAY SPEAKER — Dr. Joseph Kaplan, professor of physics and chairman of the United States Committee, International Geophysical Year, will be one of the featured speakers during the University Day luncheon program for California alumni friends of the University of California at Disneyland Hotel Apt. 26. Speaking on behalf of the statewide university will be Harry R. Wellman, vice president of UC. The program will be with luncheon and a report on programs of the world's largest organized alumni association. A o to plan year-rou plant, h plant, n tionary 'BORN YESTERDAY' STARS — Georgia Ann Douglass as Billie Dawn, and John McCarty portraying the role of the flamboyant Brock, in the Anaheim Theatre Guild's rolicking Broadway comedy, "Born Yesterday," are checking up on scene in the play. It will be produced Saturday night at the Loara School auditorium, 213 S. Loara Rd., curtaintime set for 8:30 p.m. The play will run for three consecutive Saturdays starting April 18 with Jack Arnold, one of the founders of the Anaheim Guild, as director. Arnold is credited as an excellent actor as well as director. Others in the cast are Ed Brown, Gil Silvius, Pat Harlacher, Bernie Kambic, Arch Sullard, Vern Douglass, Judy McCarty, Rollie Wishard, Dare Robertson, Steve Robertson and Fred Morrow. Singing Group To Present Harmony Show The Fullerton Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America will present its second annual Barbershop Harmony Show Saturday at 8:15 p.m. at the Fullerton Union High School Auditorium, Chapman and Harvard. The show, called "Harmony Town USA," will feature the Fullerton chorus composed of men from all over Orange County. Championship quartets appearing include The Desert Knights from Phoenix, the 1958 district champions, 'the Chordials from Arcadia, and the Feenstras from Downey. The president, Doug McCawley, has announced that the newly crowned Sweet Adeline Champions, The Nightingals from Fullerton, will sing the numbers that won them their honors. In charge of show direction is Dev Leahy; Program Robert Gilchrist; Press, Don McRell; Hospitality, Dick Hines; Tickets, Randy Conner. The Barbershoppers welcome all men who are interested in singing harmony. No training is required, only a love for singing and good fellowship. DRAMA TROPHIES — Admiring the trophies to be presented at the Footlight Festival of One-act Plays at Santa Ana College this week end are Ed Brown, representing the Anaheim Theatre Guild, and Miss Elinor Schmidt, tournament director from Santa Ana.
