NEW YORK (UPI) — The Floyd heavyweight title fight at Yankee Stadium today as one of the richest bourses of the century."
Slender Bill Rosensohn, the boyest such operator since Tex Rickard, faces just one problem which could turn his fight into a fiasco. This is Patterson's "tuneup" title defense at Indianapolis on May 1 against Brian London, the British ham-donny.
What happens if London wins?
"I'm not concerned," Rosensohn alleges. "We all know what Patterson can do. If he loses, it will be the upset of the century."
By inference, it might have been added that everybody knows, too, what London can't do.
Drives Ahead
"Actually, the Patterson-London bout is on a strategic date to help interest in our bout." Rosensohn explained. "If Patterson looks good, everybody will want to see a great champion in action. If he should look bad, then a lot of people will want to be on hand to see whether Johansson can beat him."
What happens if Patterson accidentally is cut badly or by some quirk of fate gets busted up?
Rosensohn can answer this only with a Pittsburgh Phil shrug.
Meanwhile, he is driving ahead with slick promotional plans which wrote some sort of boxing history Wednesday when he tied up with the Diners' Club for a world-wide package tour of which the Patterson-Johansson bout will provide the ice on the tourist cake.
Big Guarantee
The Diners' Club has guaranteed Rosensohn 20,000 spectators on the basis of $10 seats. This amounts to a $200,000 guarantee. Through its 200 associated travel agents in the United States, Canada and 76 countries in South America and the rest of the world, it will book tours to New York which will include transportation, hotel accommodations, fight tickets and limousine servicing.

All of this can be charged by members to their Diners' Club cards.
“This will be more attractive to large companies because they can make this a tax deductible item,” he said.
In a manner of speaking this makes Uncle Sam a co-sponsor of the fight but, after all, Mr. Whiskers gets a pretty good cut all the way around anyhow.

MEMO TO AVERY BRUNDEN
Saliva Tests
SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) —
Memo to Avery Brundage and the rest of the International Olympics Games officials:
It's time now to set-up a station to take saliva tests of all athletes competing in the 1960 Olympic winter and summer games.
Professionalism isn't the only big worry any more. Its the outside "aid" athletes are getting from scientists, inventors and just about every screwball associated with the sport.
The latest threat to having track and field an "honest" sport is a new drug. But this is just one of many new "aids" to athletes that have been put on the market during the post-war years.
For example:
—The Russians invented a shoe with a spring in it so they could jump higher.
—Somebody in Spain came up with a new-type, two-handed, wet-fingered throw in the javelin that made the event a dangerous weapon to anyone within 400 feet.
Oxygen tanks have been placed on the infield to revive athletes so they'll be in good health for the next event.
—and now drugs that will offset fatigue of the athletes in the longer runs.
The national AAU says that use of drugs to stimulate athletes is against the rules. But, unless they set up a saliva test tent, how are they going to know?
The horse racing industry, threatened with collapse because of the invention of so many new drugs in recent years, formed the Thoroughbred Protective Association and now at every track there

Montreal Leads Hockey Playoffs

MONTREAL (UPI)—The Montreal Canadiens are off in front in the Stanley Cup hockey finals with a 5-3 win over Toronto on last-period power, but both coaches think the defending champs will have to "tighten up" to retain the cup.
The heavily-favored Canadiens came up with a pair of third-period goals by Marcel Bonin and Dickie Moore to deflate the upstart Leafs Thursday night in the opener of the best-of-seven series. Neither team covered itself with glory in the somewhat lacklustre first game.
"We have got to tighten up, particularly in our own end, if we hope to win this," said Coach Toe Blake flatly.
Toronto Coach Punch Imlach, whose amazing Leafs surprised almost everyone by reaching the finals, agreed with Blake that the Canadiens will have to play better if they aim to successfully defend their title.
"The Canadiens are dead pigeons, if that's the best they can do. We can beat them," Imlach said.

Louise Suggs Leads
Zaharias Tournament
BEAUMONT, Tex. (UPI) — Louise Suggs of Atlanta leads 30 women into the $6,000 seventh annual Babe Zaharias Women's Open Golf Tournament today.
Miss Suggs, the defending champion in the 54-hole tournament, was expected to have trouble with Marlene Bauer Hagge, Betsy Rawls, Mickey Wright and Ruthie Jessen, all winners on the 1959 tournament trail.
Both Miss Suggs and Mrs. Hagge have won the Zaharias title twice. Miss Suggs won it in 1954, Marlene in 1956 and 1957.
Betty Jameson, the 1955 winner, holds the record low score of 210, but a soggy course this week is expected to resist such low scores!

Alva Tests Urged for Athletes
Track and field officials would take a dim view of putting their athletes on the same basis as horses, but it would appear that would have to be the next step.
For instance, a high school athlete looking for a coilage scholarship, easily could impress the track and field "scouts" by building himself up with one of the new drugs and then performing in miracle times.
Or an athlete wanting to make the U.*S. Olympic team, easily could take one of the capsules and run the race of his life—just once and fast enough to win a trip to Italy for the 1960 games.
A saliva test for athletes sounds silly and a bit on the horsey side—but how else can the AAU and the IOC keep the boys honest?
