New Beauty for You! By IRIS LYNNE Dear Iris Lynne: I am very self-conscious about my triangular-shaped face. What can I do to make it seem the ideal oval, how should I wear my hair, should I wear rouge, should I wear lots of eye makeup, and how should I shape my brows? Is it possible to make my forehead seem wider? I am of average height and weight, have brown hair and blue eyes, and have managed to retain a good complexion; but please tell me how to cope with this problem. Thank you, Miss L. P. Dear Miss L.P.: There are many ways to give an oval illusion to your face. However, please remember that an unusually shaped face can quite often help one to achieve an individual beauty. You already have a basic beauty ingredient — a good complexion. Let us do a run down of an ideal makeup routine for you. Start with a clean face. Apply moisture balm to face and check. Use a foundation that matches your complexion; apply it generously, blend it carefully — paying particular attention to hairline, nose, eye area, and just under the chin where makeup ends. Use a coral rouge. Dot it under the eyes and blend upward. Powder your face lightly with a piece of cotton, then brush downward with a powder brush. By all means use eye makeup. Start with eyeshadow, applied along the upper lid, then extended out and up at the outer edge. Use a matching eye liner, applied close to the lashes; blend this with fingertip, then blot with cleansing tissue. Try using a black pencil. PRESENT PACK CHARTER — Scout Official Bob Bonsteel (back row, left) is presenting the official Cub Pack charter to Frank Monnig, Grand Knight of the Anaheim Council Knights of Columbus, sponsors of the pack for more than 18 years. The presentation took place at the St. Boniface Parish Hall and was witnessed by 50 members of Cub Pack No. 173 and their parents. nose, eye area, and just - under the chin where makeup ends. Try using a black pencil, or paint on a fine black line, to extend a line at the outer eye corner, but not too far. Don't over - arch your brows, as a too - peaked look there, or on the upper lip, accentuates the triangular look. Achieve a well-defined brow with the aid of a medium - brown, well - sharpened pencil, or with the use of mascara painted on with a paint brush. Lift the outer tip slightly. You may use black mascara for your lashes. Apply two coats if necessary for a thick fringe-y effect. Use a coral lipstick. Follow the natural lipline, and with a lipbrush define this line and extend it all the way to the corners. Avoid a too - full lower lip, as well as the before mentioned "peaked upper lip." Keep the hair smooth at the sides of your face. Try bringing a curl forward in front of the ears. Set hair so that there is fullness around the upper part of your face. High, loose bangs are usually becoming. Properly made up, your face can be a definite asset — not a factor to make you self - conscious, because (not in spite of) it's unusual shape. If you have a personal beauty problem, write to me in care of this paper. ON GUARD ALWAYS! YOUR ARMY NATIONAL GUARD CO. "B" 161st AIB 409 S. Brookhurst, Fullerton Phone TKrojan 1-1705 Capt. Ralph E. Favorite Sport Memos (With Dick Stoeffler) Wonder why I can't get those simple ideas that make a mill-yun, such as Oliver Smith did when Humane Societies ruled out the use of live rabbits in dog races. Old Ollie, to save his business, merely invented the mechanical rabbit, tried it successfully in 1919 and reaped a harvest of money. A simple idea...yes...and we've been accused of being simple so often you'd think... Comes next. Tuesday and five Orange Countians will embark for St. Louis with a chance to make a million, or at least a couple of dollars in the A.B.C. tournament. We're flying back...non-stop if our arms don't get tired...to an event that is a thrill to watch, even a bigger thrill to participate in. The bowling A.B.C. attracts thousands of keglers from all over the country, and a chance at fame and fortune to anyone who can get "hot" for a three-game event, or belt out nine big games. Hank Catalano, one of the owners at Linbrook, and who hails from Fullerton, John Krasnick and Jack Henry from Buena Park, John Simone of Helicopter fame and yours truly of Anaheim will make up a team representing Norwalk Bowl, also owned by Catalano and managed by "Pluma" Krasnick. Another top-notcher heading east will be Bob Ramirez from Fullerton. Bob, who many of you know from Freeway Bowl, is a member of the Catalano Stars quintet, winners of the L.A. All-Star League. If anyone shoots big, we'll be reporting to "Tiger" Handel. New Housing For U.C. Women Set A new residence hall to house 200 more women students on the University of California campus at Davis will be ready well in time for opening of classes this coming fall. University Architect Royal H. Tyson said today that the new hall is nearly half constructed and should be complete by late July. The University Housing office will begin assigning space in it as students apply this spring. The 200-student building, part of an 800-student residence hall construction program at Davis, will complete the present group of modern halls — Hughes, Beckett, and Sruve. The new unit will be three stories, U-shaped. Students living in it will share the spacious dining and recreational facilities installed when Struve Hall was built two years ago. Each floor will have a study room with kitchenette. In addition to the new residence hall to be ready this fall, rooms for 600 more students will be available at Davis the following year. Architect Tyson said. The 600 student unit will consist of three five-story residence buildings and a central dining-recreation building. Tyson estimated that construction is about 15 percent completed and work should be finished by March, 1960. Construction of both new residence hall units began last July.
