Skylark School to Conduct Science Fair
Skylark School’s multi-purpose room will be filled with students’ science projects tomorrow as Skylark holds its School Science Fair.
Models, experiments, charts and exhibits prepared by pupils from kindergarten to sixth grade will be on display and will compete for awards.
An electric motor, built by fourth graders Bob DeBurn, Randy Lawton and Rickey Ballard, should receive much attention as will a group of simple machines built by fifth graders, Judy Comulada, Linda Magnuson, Beverly Greer and Mary Lou Scheere.
The Science Fair will be open from 1:30 in the afternoon until 9:00 that evening. All parents and friends of Sylark School are most cordially invited.
Among other science projects to be displayed, a shell collection by second graders, Gary Conard, Toni Sylvester and Ted Bechtel, a color wheel by sixth graders, Janine Savidan and Paula Mallett and crystal set by Carl Brissolara should be in contention for recognition.
Entries will be judged on six criteria: creative ability, scientific thought, thoroughness, skill, clarity and appeal. Judges, in awarding points, will pay close scrutiny to organization, accuracy, knowledge of scientific facts and effort.
The best projects at each grade level will be entered in the Mitos District Fair, which will held April 29th.
Other prominent entries in the Skylark Science Fair, according to principal, Kevin Wheeler, a Cecil Moyer’s canal lock model Michael Stephen’s rocket launch and a classified mineral collector by Nancy Grover.
The object of the fair is to stimulate interest in Alamitos’ science program. In this program, the development of scientific methods, scientific attitudes, and scientific interest and appreciation are important goals along with a focus on reliable scientific information.

Honey Price Support Rate Announced
The support rate for the 1959 honey marketing season, which started April 1, will be at a national average price of 8.2 cents per pound according to R. Cecil Fransworth, chairman of the Orange ASC County Committee which administers the program in Orange County. This, Farnsworth said, is 60 per cent of the March 1959 parity price announced February 27. The maturity date for both the 1958 and the 1959 seasons has been extended from March 31, to April 30, in order to give producers more time to market their honey in regular commercial channels, Farnsworth stated.
The program for 1959-crop honey provides for farm-storage loans and also purchase agreements on US-Grade "C" or better, extracted honey of good flavor stored in 60-pound (or larger) containers in approved storage. Farnsworth explained; and added that the honey price support program is intended to extend interim financial assistance to beekeepers, thus providing them an opportunity to market their production of honey in an orderly manner. As in the past, loans may be redeemed at any time prior to maturity; and delivery under purchase agreements at maturity date is at the option of the producer.
Detailed information regarding the program, including support prices for the principal classes of honey will be available at the ASC office in Santa Ana in the near future. Farnsworth stated and concluded with the information that price support for honey within a range of 60 to 90 per cent of parity Duane Spencer Foster, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester D. Campbell, Ky. The 101st Airborne Division, a major STRAC unit, constantly maintains an immediate readiness force for airborne deployment to any area in the world. The first company can be ready for departure within two hours after receiving an alert. A second company can be ready to follow in an hour. Within six hours, a reinforced battle group of 1700 men can be airborne. Hernandez, a rifleman in the Infantry's Com-mitice. Lieutenant McMillan is a graduate of Tustin High School.

Detailed information regarding the program, including support prices for the principal classes of honey will be available at the ASC office in Santa Ana in the near future. Farnsworth stated and concluded with the information that price support for honey within a range of 60 to 90 per cent of parity is mandatory under the Agricultural Act of 1959: therefore, if the 60 per cent of parity is higher at the beginning of the 1959 Marketing year (April 1st) than the national Average level of support just announced, the support level will be increased accordingly. All interested producers of honey may contact the ASC office in Santa Ana for further information and procedure. Farnsworth said.
Tax receipts of all Federal, state and local governments in the U.S. are estimated by the Tax Foundation at 109 billion dollars in fiscal year 1958, up 941 million over fiscal 1957.

Yorba Linda Hosts IHA Dinner Meeting
YORBA LINDA — Yorba Linda's Honorary Mayor, Hurless Barton, welcomed members of the Imperial Highway Association to Yorba Linda last Saturday evening at a dinner meeting of the organization, held in the Woman's Clubhouse.
President Clarence J. Shults of Norwalk presided at the meeting and Secretary George Kellogg summed up the 1958 report of Imperial Highway developments and new programs on the highway's agenda.
Kellogg stated that the Orange County Board of Supervisors is not ready to approve the State's plan for an overhead at Orchard Drive yet, because they have not received a definite plan. The major cause of delay-in completing the multi-turn section between Yorba Linda and the Yorba Bridge, he said, was due to failure to work out a mutually satisfactory overpass or underpass for the two segments of the Yorba Linda Country Club Estates and golf course.
