Hotels Threaten Famed Waikiki Beachboys
MONOLULU (UPI) — Waikiki's famed beachboys, claiming that their traditional independence is threatened, have formed an association, complete with a nine-state constitution and by-laws. The 43 seaside entertainers said the move was forced on them because the hotels are trying to take them "mere employees."
The last thing our organization did is union," said Bob Minn, an interst-educated Latin teacher who is secretary - treasurer of the group. "Unions are for those who work by hours for wages. We independent contractors."
The hotels recently announced that beach concessions would be added to a firm which would handle all beach services. Traditionally, the beachboys arranged their own employment with hotel staffs, splitting the fee with the boys, some of whom are boardfathers, teach surfboarding, compete riding, swimming and even dancing.
Under the new regime the boys should be told employees and would be allowed to fraternize with their guards. Hence, the new associates.

Assemblyman Han Leader on Loyalty
SACRAMENTO — Assemblyman Richard T. Hanna (D) of Garden Grove, charged today that the leader of the Orange County Republicans, who has his eye cocked toward the 1960 election, has attempted to raise a phony issue over loyalty oaths.
Hanna referred to recent criticism of his vote to remove from the statute books two acts declared unconstitutional by the United States Supreme Court — Section 32 of the Revenue and Taxation Code which required churches to file a loyalty oath in order to obtain a property tax exemption, and Section 23705 of the same code which required civic organizations and veterans to file a loyalty oath for the same exemptions.
"We voted to remove some deadwood from our already overloaded statute books," Hanna declared. "To claim that anyone who so votes is disloyal or commits a 'breach of faith' amounts to the same thing as claiming that the United States Supreme Court is disloyal or has committed a 'breach of faith.' I would like to take this opportunity to challenge my esteemed Republican critic to charge that Earl Warren or any member of the Supreme Court is guilty of disloalty or has committed a 'Breach of faith' in ruling that this act is unconstitutional."
Hanna pointed out that the Legislature almost automatically passes bills repealing statutes which have been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
"The partisan distortion in the Orange County Republican Chairman's charges is even more apparent." Hanna insisted. "when on practically the same date of the
