Tietz Firm Gets Special Use Permit A request to reclassify property owned by the Tietz Construction Co., at 1584 Katella Ave., lots 1, 2, 47, 48 and 49 of Tract 3240 in the City of Anaheim from single family residential to neighborhood commercial was denied by the Planning Commission at yesterday's meeting, but was granted when the form of the request was altered to a special use permit. The original request was objected to by John Phellips, 11341 Katella, who said that attorney-representative Harry Knizely's offer to maintain residential appearance would parking confined to the real-use the existing model homes at that address as business offices only, and to nate a driveway on the boundary, was so generous became suspect in his mind wanted a guarantee that not of the property in question not be altered in the future. U.S. Space Candidates Set for '61 Blast Off WASHINGTON (UPI) — Seven candidates have been selected for the honor and the danger of being the first American in space. But the final choice won't be known until 1961. The seven were picked from 85 volunteers, all so highly qualified the experts had a hard time choosing the final team for the manned satellite program, dubbed Project Mercury. Names of the seven candidates will be announced later this week by the Federal Space Agency. They will go to Langley Research center, Hampton, Va., "in the early future" for training as astronauts. Some time in 1961, if all goes well, one of the seven will be told to get into his gear. Not until launching day will he know that he is the chosen one. On that day he will be blasted into an orbit 100 to 150 miles high, whirled around the earth for about 24 hours, and—again, if all goes well—brought safely down at a predetermined place.
