PETER RABBIT IS SICK
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (UPI)
It's three days after Easter and Peter Rabbit is sick. Not from eating Easter eggs, though. Peter Rabbit, a member of the state legislature and father of eight children, has the mumps.
STILL PITCHES STRIKES
ASHVILLE, Ala. (UPI) — Ed Rickles, 65-year-old former minor league baseball pitcher, still is pitching strikes.
Pegging rocks in defense of his chickens Rickles recently killed during an eight-day period a 37-pound bobcat, a 28-pound fox, an 18-pound raccoon, and several wilcats.
WHOOPS: WRONG POCKET
MESSINA, Sicily (UPI) — Professional pickpocket Alfio Leonardi has a deft touch but bad judgment.
The pocket he tried to pick at Easter services in the cathedral here turned out to be the police chief's and he wound up in jail.
CAN'T STOP
SAN ANTONIO, Tex. (UPI) — Auto driver Joe Contrearas, who lives at 114 Can't Stop Street, gave police this excuse after an accident in which his car skidded 118 feet: "I couldn't stop."
BEST MAN
WAKEFIELD, England (UPI) — Walter Gant, 32, was best man at a wedding here Saturday for the 44th time. He is a bachelor.

THOU SHALT NOT...
ATLANTA, Ga. (UPI)—Easter Sunday worshippers at the Northside Methodist Church were greeted by this sign when they drove their cars up to the curb in front of the church:
"Thou shalt not park."
TOUGH EGGS
PETERS HOLLOW, Tenn. (UPI)—Folks here are just about ready to concede that farmer Ray Lowe has chickens that lay the toughest eggs in town.
Lowe, 63, won Peters Hollow's annual Easter egg fight Sunday for the third time in the last four years. He had the only uncracked egg left after 200 "contestants" bashed eggs against each other.
TO LEND UMBRELLAS
JAMAICA, N.Y. (UPI)—April showers may come the way of commuters on the Long Island Railroad, but nobody will get wet if the railroad's new plan works out.
The LIRR announced today its lost and found department will put hundreds of unclaimed umbrellas at strategic spots on train stations next month. Commuters can borrow 'em, free. The railroad hopes the bumbleshoots will be returned the next day.
JACK RABBIT INJURED
SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. (UPI)—A 6-year-old boy fell during an Easter egg hunt here Sunday and fractured his wrist. His name — Jack Rabbit.
HUSBANDLY PROTESTS
WINFIELD, Mo. (UPI)—The only bailots that a pair of woman politicians here can be sure of losing are their husbands'.
Mrs. John Dean and Mrs. James Sayer are running for election as aldermen. Their candidacies spurred their mates to put this joint protest ad in the local newspaper: "A woman's place is in the home, not in politics."
LOST SUBPENA
MOBILE, Ala. (UPI) — The courthouse subpena was missing today, apparently lost in the confusion of moving to the new Mobile County courthouse.

MOBILE, Ala. (UPI) — The courthouse subpena was missing today, apparently lost in the confusion of moving to the new Mobile County courthouse.
Subpena is the pet cat of the courthouse crowd.
BI-PARTISAN HOME
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (UPI) — Everything is on a high bi-partisan level at the home of the Morrises here.
Mrs. Eleanor Morris is campaigning for mayor of Noblesville on the Democratic ticket, while her husband is running for city council as a Republican.
LOOSE MONEY
SEATTLE, Wash. (UPI) — An obliging customer at the First National Bank scooped up a large pile of loose currency dropped by a short thin man—and smilingly tried to hand it back to him Friday.
To the customer's astonishment, the man wheeled around and dashed out of the building without taking the money. The bank's burglar alarm sounded a few seconds later.
