Bosta Mesan Held for Stabbing, Beating Wife
COSTA MESA (OCNS) — Joseph Felix Rivera Jr., 37, of 106 22nd St., Costa Mesa was booked into County Jail last night for investigation of assault in an attempt to commit murder. Mesa police said Rivera stabbed his wife, Mollie, 29, in the chest. She was taken to Orange County Hospital with head injuries in addition to the stab wound.
During a family argument, investigating police said, Rivera seized an 8-inch butcher knife and plunged it into his wife. Then he allegedly grabbed a chair and used it to beat her over the head. A brother, Frank Rivera, broke up the fight by hitting the suspect over the head with what remained of the chair, police said.
The knifing occurred at about 8:55 o'clock last night. Driven from the house by his brother, Rivera was apprehended by officers Carl Nelson and William Savage in the vicinity of 2197 Rural Lane. The suspect required medical treatment for a severe cut on his head, police said. Sgt. Roger Neth said the case is still under investigation.

told newsmen he thought the subcommittee should study the evidence over the weekend and begin work on a report next week.
"It should be a comparatively simple report, because the areas of criticism are relatively limited," Mundt said. "I hope it won't be approached in a partisan spirit."
And Sen. Henry M. Jackson (D-Wash) said, "I think there should be an early report by the subcommittee. We have the problem last-minute legislation which will necessarily slow down issuance of a report. Nevertheless, I hope a report will be made without delay."
Rumors that Talbott would—or would not—resign from his post flooded Washington in the wake of his withdrawal from Paul B. Mulligan & Co., management engineers.
Talbott told a United Press reporter firmly that he did not intend to resign as secretary. When an aldee intervened with "no comment," Talbott amended his answer to "no comment." Later, when pressed by other newsmen, he denied making the statement.
Talbott told the subcommittee he did nothing illegal or dishonest in his relations with his firm, which had clients who held defense contracts.
He said he never used his position as secretary "to pressure a living soul to give the company contracts."
But "in retrospect," he said, "I now see that I was mistaken in permitting myself to make phone calls or write letters about the company."
Talbott said he gave Mulligan & Co. scarcely 2½ days of his time during 2½ years in the Pentagon.
