4-H Club Exhibitors at State Fair
Hundreds of 4-H Club members from all over the state will flock to the California State Fair and Exposition, scheduled Sept. 1 through 11, according to Alvin F. Carveth of Auburn, director in charge.
Clothing exhibits will be displayed all 11 days, but livestock barns will show 4-H stock from Sept. 7 through 11 only.
Approximately 500 4-H Club members will participate, about equally divided among clothing and livestock. Livestock premiums show cash offerings of $22,126, with an additional $500 ticketed for clothing.
Biggest activity in the department will be a visit by 1200 4-H delegates from the annual state convention at the University of California at Davis. A special one-day program is being prepared. The trek from Davis to Sacramento will be made opening day, and the youngsters will return that evening.
Carveth stressed importance of the 4-H role in the state fair, stating those entered represented the best efforts of 28,000 members in California, operating under direction of some 5000 volunteer adult leaders.
Danish Judging System
Judging of 4-H clothing will start Aug. 29, with Aug. 15 as deadline for entries. A Danish system of judging will be used.
Judging schedules for 4-H livestock:
Sept. 8: Fat, Hampshire, and Berkshire swine; Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Holstein, and Milking Shorthorn dairy cattle; fat and Shropshire sheep, and beef cattle.

Stanton Lions and guests enjoyed a special cold plate buffet dinner and the motion pictures of the Fifth Pan American Mexican Road Race at a recent meeting in the local clubhouse.
Presented by Al Henley, mechanic for the Bill Stroppe Lincoln team in the road race, the film featured some 42 minutes of dizzy speed and hairpin turns by international entrants in the famous event. Program chairman Dan Cobb introduced Henley.
President Art Nieblas presided over the session, and introduced briefly business discussion on the Stanton Lions Benefit Carnival slated for Sept. 24. R. K. Martin, Roy Shields, and Bill Asawa were named as additional booth chairmen. Calvin Terry reported on plans for a "taco booth" as another feature for the carnival.

Veterans Advised to See College Counselors Early
Veterans who wish to attend Orange Coast College under the G.I. bill should see college counselors early in August, it was asserted today by Dr. James W. Thornton Jr., vice-president.
Subsistence allowances will be received sooner if formal authority to enroll has been received by the Veteran’s Administration prior to the opening of the fall term on Sept. 12.
Forms for original application or for re-enrollment are available at the O.C.C. Counseling Center.
Veteran and other students may pre-register for the fall semester at O.C.C. during August from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Early preregistration aids in allowing time for individual counseling and assures students of admission in class sections where enrollment is limited.
Preregistration-examinations will begin Aug. 5, 26 and Sept. 2, at 9 a.m., at the college.

The main reason for doing more land is that the condition, as it becomes stronger thinks more and more of easily establishing a day-school connection with its church.

and technical training and the Air Force is willing to go 'all-out' to get them." That is the way that Sergeant Forrest Alexander of the Santa Ana Recruiting Station, 1012 North Main St., explains the new Air Force policy that went into effect on July 1.
The new program which went into effect simultaneously at every recruiting station in the country, was designed by the Air Force to increase procurement of much needed technicians who already have served a tour of active military service. It also is intended to insure assignment of re-enlistees to places and duties where their skills are needed.
One of the greatest changes in existing policy that the new program will bring about is in the 90-day, re-enlistment in grade limitation. Formerly any airman or non-comissioned officer who remained out of active service for more than 90 days had to re-enlist for additional service in a grade below his former rank. Now some men who have been out of the Air Force for more than that time, and who possess vitally needed skills, may re-enlist in the same grade they last held. Other veterans who left the Air Force as much as 18 months to two years ago may re-enlist with the loss of only one pay-grade, providing they possess a needed skill. Other veterans in particular skills may remain out of the Air Force for as much as 48 months with the loss of only two pay-grades, Sergeant Alexander said.

Genelda Bozarth is going to have some fancy new clubs when she goes back to Savanna school grounds does not mean that activity is not going on there. Allen Blakely, that super all-purpose maintenance man, after a brief escape from kids and people to the solitudes of a fishing stream, has been on the job repairing the ravages of the school year, and painting buildings.
Ronnie Fuller, senior in Anaheim high and president of the local Christian Endeavor Society who hopes to end up a preacher, has been kept busy mowing and watering those all-too healthy lawns.
Arthur Nieblas, Savanna's new superintendent, is in and out of the school each day pick-up loose ends and seeing that everything will be in shipshape, come Sept. 12.
Toward the middle of August he plans to fly to Richmond, Ind., to pick up the new 66-passenger school bus that will serve Savanna school district next year. A considerable sum is saved by picking up the bus at the assembly point, and the slow drive home helps to "break-in" the bus.
Unless Ann and Yvonne practice up their cooking at the Fuller home on 2nd Street, their meals might be kind of out-of-the-can variety next year, what with Mrs. David Fuller (Ronnie's mother) being head of the Savanna cafeteria next year, and just too tired to fix up fancy meals at home, too.
Orange City Planners Approve 569 New Lots
FULLERTON (OCNS) — Construction of a $250,000 manufacturing plant on North Gilbert avenue by Catalina, Inc., large West Coast producer of swim suits, definitely will be started this year, OCNS was informed by company officials.
Eventually to employ 300 persons, the 24,000 square-foot plant originally was scheduled to be built in June. "Ground has not been cleared yet, but we are planning to build before next year," company officials said.
The plant will manufacture ladies swim wear and the complete operation will be handled at the Fullerton site. The expansion program will entail a $1,000,000 investment.
The local plant is one of four new ones to be constructed in Southern California.
Officials of American Meter Co., reported their $500,000 plant, located near the Catalina site, will be finished by September. The 60,000-square-foot plant, on a 21-acre site, will manufacture domestic and industrial gas meters.
Company officials told OCNS the Fullerton plant also will house their West Coast offices. Initially it will employ 100 persons.
Also scheduled for construction soon in the recent M-1 addition to the city is a roller skating rink just north of Commonwealth avenue on Gilbert avenue. Already in operation in the area is Neon Products, Inc., producers of plastic neon signs.

She has gotten herself a job baby-sitting that will make her pockets jingle and get her out of that old free-for-nothing work at home, at least during the day. Her sister, Jeanette, is going to spell her at times so that she can go to the beach or shopping with her mother.
GENEIDA's father, William Bozarth, who is in the house moving business, switches to oil derks on Saturdays. It seems at after the oil well has been filled the super-structure is no longer necessary and can be moved to another location to be used in more drilling. As can be imagined, the derrick-switching business has been very good in the Huntington Beach area late-Bozarth has been helping with a lot of it.
