Bid for Huge Smog Study Grant LOS ANGELES (UP)—Smog-hidden Los Angeles today bid for the lion’s share of a 5 million dollar federal grant to be used to light air pollution on a national scale. But the competition, according to three smog experts from Washington, was heavy with some 150 cities across the nation equally interested in the yearly authorization approved by Congress. The three visitors are Dr. Louis McCabe, former Los Angeles smog chief and now state consultant to the assistant surgeon general; Dr. Vernon G. MacKenzie of the Division of Sanitation Engineering, and Dr. Arthur Stern, chief of the federal air pollution control program. They met today with California Health Director Malcolm W. Merrill.
