News From Cypress Way

The Claude Fortune family of 9054 Watson St., enjoyed a family gathering in the form of a picnic recently. The group of relatives gathered at the Fortune home and went from there to Anaheim park where they spent the day visiting.
Attending the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Claude Fortune and children, Bobby and Janice, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fortune, and children, Linda and Martha of Fresno; Mr. and Mrs. Grady Fortune and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Fortune and Miss Joan Vickers of Long Beach, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Knight and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Knight of Batesville, Ark., who were visiting in the Fortune home, and two friends of Bobby's Wesley Menke of Norco and Gordon Callahan.
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Craig of Disha, Ark. is visiting Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Forshee on Wicker Drive.
The Rev. and Mrs. Clifford S. Fisher, pastor of the Cypress Church of the Nazarene, are welcoming a new member to their family this week. The new daughter arrived last Monday night at the Artesia hospital and has been named Bonnie Grace. The Fishers have two other children, Susie and Norton.
Mr. and Mrs. Billy Jo Bangs left last week for Batesville, Ark. where he will enter the hospital for medical treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lenerville and children returned recently from a vacation which was spent visiting relatives and friends in the northern part of the country.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Callahan and children, Gordon and Jack, and Mrs. Della Calkins returned recently from a vacation in Oregon. The boys reported a good time fishing.
Mrs. Dorothey Denney of Karen street was hostess at the monthly meeting of the Birthday Club, of which she is a member, in her home recently.
The group met in the evening and enjoyed a game of volleyball during the twilight hours.
Following the game, they spent sometime playing games which had been planned for the evening's activities by the hostess.
At the close of an enjoyable get-together during which time the birthday anniversary of Mrs. Lee DeWitt was honored, refreshments of ice cream sundae were served to Mimes. Milfred Bernhart, Velma Kumis, Doris Konig, Betty Sanders, Eunice Kelly, Betty Jean Boyd, Patty Hoyt, Mary DeWitt, Lee DeWitt, Fran Sherron, Dorothy Denney of Garden Grove and Mrs. Lovell Wright of Garden Grove and Mrs. Dick Bakker of Cypress, who were guests for the evening.
VFW Auxiliary Names Chairmen
CYPRESS—Appointment of mittee chairmen and a report the Second District meeting Huntington Beach on July 16 marked the recent meeting with C. R. Rogers Memorial Auction to VFW Post No. 9847, Mrs. M. Knauss, publicity chair reported.
Named chairmen of committee were Mrs. Bea Hahn, auxiliary president; were Mrs. Donald Wedge building; Mrs. William Boeckner cancer; Mrs. H.J.G. Kreissler glass wipers; Mrs. Charles ders, traveling basket; Mrs. Sherer traveling banner; and mittee members, Mrs. Ted Patterson, William Boeckeler and Jesse Vaughn, Mrs. Boeckeler the first to accept the trawler basket.
Department citations brought back from the District meeting President Hahn were: Mrs. Lockman, press and radio; oman 1954-55; Mrs. Ruby Good legislative chairman 54-55; Mrs. Ann Wedeking, national chairman 54-55;
Attend Meeting Members attending the Dic meeting were Mrs. Hahn, Kreissler, Mrs. Ruth Pugh, Gene Young, Mrs. Thomas DeVille and Mrs. Charles Knauss. Accompanying the ladies to the meet were VFW Post members: mander L.A. Plumer, Gene Yolph Thomas Demiris, and H.J.G. (Ory) Kreissler, who is Second trict Commander.

Fall From Mechanical Horse Results in Suit
SANTA ANA (OCNS)—Claim a market's mechanical horse tossed him to the pavement carrying serious injury Donald Way Hayes, 2, was the plaintiff in $5000-plus damage suit filed Superior Court here last week through his father Clarence Hayes of 11901 East Whittier Road La Habra.
Named defendant was the Alp Beta Market of La Habra. Claims he took the boy to market Feb. 4. He said he placed the youngster in the saddle of mechanical equine, and slipped dime into the slot.
The horse lunged suddenly, cording to Hayes, hurling the to the pavement: The lad suffered a brain injury, the complaint leges.
Hayes asserts two other children had been thrown from the building horse earlier in the day. Claims the hand-holds had been removed and the machine was dangerous and defective.
