News From Cypress Way CHRISTINE DAVIS JACKSON 7-2010 Mrs. J. C. Sutphin Sr., of Bloomington, Ind., recently left for home after a month's visit with her son and family, the John Sutphins of 5661 St. Ann street. Mrs. Sutphin was here partly to welcome her new grandson, Henry Carl, born June 29. She visited relatives in Colorado on her way home. Mrs. Fred Armbruster, Mrs. Henry Huckabee and Mrs. Mary McBride attended the Woman's Missionary convention held in the San Bernardino mountains at Pine Crest recently. The ladies reported good services, and missionaries, in attendance were from Africa, Japan, India and China. The engagement of Miss Mary Dixon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orie Dixon was announced last week. Her fiance is Tom Fleeman of Compton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard E. Fleeman. The wedding has been set for Aug. 27 at the Anaheim Baptist church. Miss Dixon is a former resident of Cypress as her parents lived here until they moved into a new home at 1464 Beverly in Anaheim. She attended Centralia school and Anaheim Union high school. George Ogata Jr., and David Thomas were announced the winners in the ticket sales contest among Cypress Scouts for the July 4 Firemen's breakfast and the donkey baseball game. Ogata sold $100 worth of ducats and ended up with a free expense trip to camp this summer. Thomas was second with $73 in sales, and he was presented a new fishing tackle box. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Smitherson of Whittier were dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Davis, 9181 Walker St., last Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. John McGee of 8631 La Homa St., are welcoming a new member to their family who has been named Maureen Ann. She was born July 5 and weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces.
