INCREASE OR DECREASE? Trade Winds Hold Yachting Answers HONOLULU UP—The trade winds held the answer to the Transpacific Yacht Race today. If they continue to diminish, the 75-foot schooler Constellation appeared a cinch to be the winner of the 225-mile race with a corrected time of 9 days, 3 hours, 10 minutes and 20 seconds. But if they increase, they could put the Class C Nalu II in excellent position to take top honors in the classie. The Nalu, with nearly a 74-hour handicap, was less than 400 miles from the Diamond Head finish line at last reports. She appeared to be the only boat threatening the Constellation. The Nalu II is owned by Peter Grant of Newport Harbor Yacht Club. The Constellation, owned by Frank Hooy-Kaas of the Los Angeles Yacht Club, was one of the Class A yarhts to finish the race. First across the line early yesterday was Richard S. Rheem's 96-foot ketch Morning Star, which set a new record for the crossing of 9 days, 15 hours, 5 minutes and 10 seconds. Her corrected time was 9 days, 9 hours, 30 minutes and 22 seconds. The Constellation crossed the line at 1:56 p.m. HST 3:56 p.m. Bloomers to Meet Cypress Tonight The Anaheim Bloomers meet the Cypress Cyprettes tonight at the City Park at 7 o'clock. With Frances Reid on the mound and Diane Richards as catcher, Judy Reese will start at first, Joyce Wilson at second, Charlene Allen at third, and Jill Formolo at short. The fielding positions will find Peggy Jo Dargatz in left field, Kathy Hathaway in center, and Gloria Potockl in right field. Others that will see action are Pat Chaffee and Margo Reed. Going into tonight's game, the league standings are as follows: Fullerton, 3-0; Cypress, 2-1; Anaheim, 1-1; Buena Park, 1-2; Laguna Beach, 0-2. Ruth Simpson of Cypress leads the league in batting with a .636 batting average. Cornelia Dykstra, also of Cypress, is second with .500. PDT, 13 hours and 50 minutes after the Morning Star. Third was Novia del Mar, the 89-foot ketch owned by John Scripps of San Diego. Scripps crossed the finish line at 3 p.m. 6:52 p.m. PDT, with elapsed time of 10 days, 6 hours, 52 minutes and 3 seconds, and corrected time of 9 days, hours, 52 minutes and 3 seconds. Fourth was the Ramona which crossed at 7:46 p.m. 10 p.m. PDT, with an elapsed time of 10 days, 10 hours, 46 minutes and 58½ seconds, and a corrected time of 10 days, 10 hours, minutes and 22 seconds. The Ramona split a sail for days ago. Up to then, it was strong contender. The yawl Baruna crossed the finish line at 12:20 a.m. today at 3:20 a.m. PDT. Scripps said the Novia of Mar blew out two spinnaker during the race. She came with a spinnaker fashioned from a balloner. High Winds "We never had a speed of less than nine knots during the entire trip," he said. "The win blew day and night—sometimes too much." Scripps said he will remain the islanders for about six weeks and take part in the forthcoming Kauai race. The Catamaran Walkiki Su crossed the finish line at 1 a.m. 7 a.m. PDT.
