COUNTY BRIEFS Deny Real Estate Office SANTA ANA (OCNS)—Oliver V. Inge's bid for a variance permitting the placement of a real estate office on the east side of Highway 39 about 350 feet north of Orange avenue, North Stanton, was turned down Wednesday afternoon by the County Planning Commission. The property lies in a pending zone change request. The switch of the area from agriculture to commercial would give Inge the green light. Okay Maintenance Yard SANTA ANA (OCNS) — Pacific Coast Boring Co. Wednesday afternoon obtained permission from the County Planning Commission to erect a contractor's equipment storage and maintenance yard on the west side of La Salle St., 190 feet south of Crescent street, Cypress. Planners recommended the Board of Supervisors sanction the yard in the light industry zone. Planners Defer Action SANTA ANA (OCNS) — The County Planning Commission Wednesday afternoon deferred for two weeks its decision on a request by the Union Oil Company for a service station variance east of Buena Park. The company wants to put the station on the northwest corner of Orangethorpe avenue and Miller street. A report from the State Division of Highways on the Houston freeway was asked by the commission before ruling on the request. Cecil Cameron was installed as Chef-de-Gare of the Orange County Voltage 527 of the American Legion at the installation ceremonies held at Newport Beach recently. The installation officer was Joe Moteleone Grand Chef-de-Gare of the Grand Voltage of California. Attending from Brea were Mrs. Lorena Sinning, Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey Stocks, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bailey, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Davison, Mr. and Mrs. Vic Guard. Attending the American Legion and Auxiliary Convention held in San Diego from June 25 to June 29 were Mr. and Mrs. Charles McCrae, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wolcott, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bailey, Mrs. Lorena Sinning, Mrs. Vivian Kleeman, Cecil Cameron and Vic Guard. The next meeting of the auxiliary will be tonight with the members meeting at the Post at 6:30 p.m. Those having birthdays in June, July or August will be honored for the evening. Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Guard, 345 South Walnut Ave., were Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Johnston of Modesto, and Mrs. Russ Towne of Los Angeles. Defer Station Request SANTA ANA (OCNS)—A request by Moore Built Homes to put a service station on the northeast corner of Magnolia avenue and Broadway, west of Anaheim, was deferred yesterday for a week by the County Planning Commission. Nearby property owners reportedly have no objections to Moore's development. To Rebuild Restaurant SANTA ANA (OCNS) — William Oldenburg got clearance from the County Planning Commission Wednesday afternoon to rebuild a Santa Ana Canyon restaurant partially fire destroyed. Oldenburg of Corona del Mar seeks to erect a 30 by 40-foot building, seating 18 persons, on the southeast side of the Canyon Road, two miles northwest of the Highway 14 intersection. Pipeline in Operation LOS ANGELES — A 10,500-foot pipeline connecting offshore oil wells of Monterey Oil Co. and the Texas Co. with a separation center at Seal Beach has been put into operation. E. E. Pyles, vice president of the Monterey firm, said oil from seven wells in the system is flowing through the eight-inch line instead of being transported to the shore aboard barges. Recommend Employment SANTA ANA (OCNS) — Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce traffic committee sent a letter to the council to be tonight with the members meeting at the Post at 6:30 p.m. Those having birthdays in June, July or August will be honored for the evening. A hamburger fry and a few games of badminton were the drawing cards for a get-together at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Barlow of 120 East Locust St., Saturday night, July 2. Families present were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ruther of 424 East Alder St., and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Simpson of 508 East Alder St. The Fourth of July was also an excuse for these same families to gather about a freezer of home-made ice cream and a fireworks display. Also joining them at the Ruther home were Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds Bagby of Placentia and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Neverka of 524 East Alder St. Mr. and Mrs. Hartman Sundrup, 121 East Locust St., returned Friday, July 1, after a two-week's vacation trip spent touring through Yellowstone National Park, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Bryce and Zion National Parks. Many pictures and movies were taken of their trip. Two days were spent visiting with friends in Yermo, Calif. A barbecue picnic supper was enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Don Lacy and family of 405 Eucalyptus on July 4 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Ottin of Garden Grove. Other families enjoying the picnic and the fireworks were Mr. and Mrs. David McDonald of Fullerton and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Blystone of Garden Grove. While there, Mrs. Harwood attended the Albion College commencement, several luncheons and dinners, a concert, and other festivities of graduation time. Albion College is her alma mater. A reunion of her class was one of the highlights of her trip. Her time was further spent in visiting other friends and relatives at Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Lansing and Grand Rapids. Good weather was reported for most of the time, with the heat just beginning to appear at her departure. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Graham and family celebrated the Fourth of July with a hamburger fry and Wiener bake at their home with friends and neighbors attending. Later in the evening the children and grownups enjoyed a fine display of fireworks. Folks enjoying the occasion with the Grahams were Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Haugland, and family of Anaheim; Mr. and Mrs. Vern Henderson and family, also of Anaheim; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Aland, and children, of Grenada Hills and Mr. and Mrs. D. Sherman, and family of Yorba Linda. County Planners Deny Sales, Rental Business SANTA ANA (OCNS) — A use variance for the location of a business for the sale and rental of gardening equipment on the south side of Westminster avenue, a quarter mile west of Wright street, was approved by the County Planning Commission this week. Jack T. Reese was the applicant for the variance. The commission's staff had recommended disapproval, citing the fact that 70 acres of business zone had been created recently only 600 feet east of Reese's property.
