Sun Gardens Freeway Hearing Hoped For
GARDEN GROVE (OCNS) — The Sun Gardens area two-month battle to keep a proposed freeway from cutting directly through their neighborhood began to bear fruit this week as tentative arrangements for a hearing before the State Highway Commission were made with the assistance of Edward Telford, district highway engineer, State Senator John Murdy and Supervisor Willis Warner.
After a two hour conference with a committee of Sun Gardens residents, Telford agreed to request a half-hour hearing for a committee spokesman when the commission meets in Los Angeles July 20.
Murdy and Warner indicated they would write letters to the commission secretary today, urging the Sun Garden presentation be put on the July 20 calendar.
Residents claim the state's proposed route along Central Ave. in Sun Garden's will "ravish almost 70 homes," as compared to their chosen route along Trask Ave. which affects only 10 homes and a drive-in theater.
