Sports World Shocked by Shocking Fishing Pole Invented by Germans
By JACK L. HEES

HAMBURG, Germany — Two inventors here have figured out a way to take all the fun out of fishing. It's an electronic fishing pole, about the most diabolic invention to come out of Germany since the V-1 rocket.
You stick your pole into the water and press a button. All fish within a 10-foot radius stop in their tracks and swing around like compass needles pointing at the tip of your pole. All you have to do then is reach in with a net or your bare hands and pick them out.

Sportmen already are shouting that there ought to be a law against it, and there probably will be.
But the inventors don't care. Herbert Preglow and Conradin Kreutzer said they didn't have lazy anglers in mind when they devised the "Salmo-Super," which is what they have christened their shocking brainchild.
"It'll the same as if a hunter would go after deer with a machine gun," Preglow admitted. "Nevertheless, the Salmo-Super for the first time in history allows controlled fish-breeding and fish-farming."
Preglow and Kreutzer invented the electric pole in cooperation with the West German Federal Institute for Fishing Research at Hamburg.
Garden Grove Hospital Given Green Light
SANTA ANA (OCNS)--The way was clear today for the establishment of a 50-bed, $500,000 general hospital on an 11-acre parcel of land in Southeast Garden Grove.
A conditional permit was granted to Metropolitan Investment Co. to erect the hospital on the east side of Berrydale Ave. about 625 feet north of 17th St. The County Board of Supervisors acted on the permit.
A five-foot concrete wall will be constructed on the south property line. Adequate parking was shown on a revised plot plan approved last week by the Planning Commission.
A hospital spokesman said enough property is available for expansion to 100 beds in the future.

Mormon Church Here Gets Conditional Permit
SANTA ANA (OCNS)–The County Board of Supervisors today approved a conditional permit which will permit the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to build a $200,000 church east of the Anaheim city limits.
The church is scheduled for a 4½-acre piece of land on the south side of South St. 300 feet east of Placentia Ave. The development will include a huge recreation hall.
Basketball will be a feature of the hall, a spokesman for the Mormon church said. Half of the building site was purchased by the Mother Church. The congregation paid the rest.
The Anaheim Planning Commission offered no objections to the purposed church. The area is in Anaheim annexation plans.
