BAKING FOR FAIR — Organized as the Stitching Susles of Buena Park, this group of 4-H girls who have achieved success in the line of sewing, have turned to the art of cookery for the 1954 Orange County Fair. Under the leadership of Mrs. Wallace Bagley, this group has been working at foods only a few months. Here they prepare a cake for demonstration. California Calendar
Californians and their tourist guests will find a variety of mid-summer entertainment everywhere in the State during the month of July, with such events as the Placer and Solano County Fairs, Silverado Rodeo, Portuguese Festival, San Juan Fiesta Rodeo, Shakespeare Festival and a National Horse Show heading the list of celebrations, according to the Travel and Recreation Committee of the California State Chamber of Commerce.
Other attractions include music festivals, golf and tennis tournaments, community fairs, art shows and flower shows, fishing derbies, a beach festival, horse shows and Peninsula Country Club, Pebble Beach, July 5-8.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — An air of anxiety hangs this coastal city today as preparations are being completed for the observance of Huntington Beach's Golden Anniversary celebration and the annual Orange County Fourth of July Parade and Celebration July 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Kickoff for the four-day filled spectacle will be the conclusion of the Queen and her Court at 8 p.m. July 2. In the Pavilion followed by the Judging of the whiskerino contest first prize of $5 going to the winner. There will also be a $25 awarded to the person dressed the best vigilante.
Next is the Golden Jubilee tume contest with first prize to best lady contest with a $50 going to the best lady and the male. There will also be ribbon and trophies awarded.
The remainder of the event will be devoted to dancing music by The Pastels. No admission will be charged.
Fishing Contest
For the youngsters on Friday there will be a fishing competition open to any boy or girl under years of age. The kids will from the Elsie II burge between hours of 6 a.m., and 5 p.m., and boy or girl who catches the last fish will be awarded a complete fishing outfit including a cuttas rod, a reel, line and mackerel. The fish will be weighed after last boat.
The Kid's Day parade starts at urday's activities at 11 a.m. Reservation period will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Orange Avenue Fifth street, Grand Marshal be Sheriff John, star of Car time on TV station KTLA. All trants in the parade must be costume and is open to all.

The Lassen Peak Highway through Lassen Volcanic National Park was opened to public travel on June 19, terminating a month's intensive snow removal operation. Visitors may enjoy the trip through towering banks of snow for several weeks. Over 15-foot depths were encountered by the snow crews. As a safety measure, large vehicles and house trailers are not permitted to travel over a 12-mile section of one-way highway across the summit until the road is cleared to standard width. The roads to Butte Lake and Warner Valley are now open to the public. It is suggested that the following calendar be clipped and used as a reference. It will serve as a handy guide on July vacations or weekend journeys.

At 2:30 p.m. the Open Air Bowl Amphitheater stage show will presented. Highlights of the event include Pepito. The Internation Clown." The Magic Toy Shift "The Cavalcade of the Bath Suit." The Hawaiian Ensemble and special acts of toe and a batic dancing. Bicycle and comedy acts.
In the evening, the spott moves to the American Leisure Stadium for the jalopy races. Quiifying will begin at 6:30 with race slated for 8:30. Price of mission will be $1.25 per person for students.
At 8:30 p.m. the Golden Joe Coronation Ball begins at Patio Ballroom featuring unby The Pastels.
On Sunday, July 4. at 11 a.m. city will re-enact the arrival of the first Pacific Electric train and Pacific Electric and city officials will leave Los Angeles: 9:30 a.m. Members of the Piesteros Club in early California costumes will make up the photo of visitors and sightseers. TV motion picture cameras will cord the event.
Band Concert
The famed Southern Park band will present their concert at 2 p.m. in the Open Air Amp theater with Miss Sally Sheffield directing. Claude Killon is mager.
At 3 p.m. there will be a hilous style show and 1904 battle beauty revue arranged by Ve Miller. At 3:30 the Golden Ju Bathing Beauty Pageant gets derway with Joe Graydon,rader TV and recording artist as man of ceremonies.The girls parting will be judged on:

LOST SPECS SEE AGAIN
ORLAND, Me. ©—Alvertie E. Gray, 69, is back to wearing his old gold-rimmed eyeglasses again. His son, Foster, found them in a woodland cart road where they had lain since Gray lost them 14 years ago while chopping wood. "The specs are good as new," says Gray. "so I loaned my new ones to a neighbor."

FIREWORKS Show
The final evening of fun begins at 7 o'clock with the Westminster Tumblers, under the direction of Jack Fish, in the amphitheatre, followed at 7:30 by Sunset Prolific.
At 9 p.m., the grand finale will be presented, the Golden Jubilee Fireworks aerial show at the end of Huntington Beach Municipal Pier. The spectacle will be directed by Fire Chief Bud Higgins.
At 10 p.m., the Golden Jubilee Flesta dance begins at the Pavalon Ballroom with music by the Pastels.
During the four days there will be concession booths at Main and Ocean Blvd., and a ferris wheel, merry-go-round and other rides for children.
OLD TIMERS CLUB HOLDS 36TH ANNUAL REUNION
SANTA ANA (OCNS)—More than 3000 persons gathered in Irvine Park, Orange, Sunday for the annual reunion of the Old Timers Club and, to the surprise of no one, Corner and Public Administrator Earl Abbey again was named president.
Only one ballot was cast for the post Abby has held for 15 years. That was Abbey's. Other officers retaining their posts were W. B. Williams, treasurer and Len Harvey secretary.

Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wagner and son, John, just returned from an auto trip, through Fresno, Sequoia, Monterey and Carmel.
The Bob Smiths spent the week end at Laguna Beach, as guests of Bob's parents, the J.A. Smiths, owners of the Coast Inn.
Sunday night, the John Kirsch's were hosts to a barbecue for several of their friends, at the home on South street in Anaheim. After dinner they showed pictures of their recent trip to Florida. Those who enjoyed the evening were the Edward Stoeffels, the Lawerence Kraemers, and the J. D. McDonalds.
The O. J. Underwoods and their children, Judy and Jon, of Palm Drive, have just returned from a trip to San Francisco, and Oakland, then home via Yosemite.
Four Placentia young ladies visited the Moulin Rouge Cafe in Hollywood on Sunday, where they report a beautiful floor show and a full house. Those who enjoyed this new spot were Anna Nora, Flo Hand, Arline Hanolsh, and Fern Asquith.
The Bob Snells and their children, together with the Don Spencers and their family, Bill Purdy, and Homer Neer, were weekend workers at Camp Osceola, where they enjoyed a happy holiday, and did their stint toward the building of the Rotary Club's cabin, for the use of the YMCA camp. Many civic organizations in the County give their time and effort toward this fine project.

Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Fitzly spent Sunday Heights, calling up friends, then taking throughout that section county to see all of them in the area.
The Owen Underwood turned from Oakland, visited the Robert Fish Placentians. While dined at the Fisherman San Francisco, where summer crowds and they returned via Yosemite.

Oldest person in attendance was M. H. Shirley, going on 95 of Cypress. Otto Dos angeles of Placeia was among the eldest at 94.
Mrs. Jennie Johnson, wife of former Laguna Chief of Police Nate Johnson, was tabbed the oldest resident of the county. She lived here for 23 years long before the county was mapped.
Mrs. Johnson declined to give her age.
"We had a wonderful time," Abbe said. "Folks came from far and wide-from all over the state. The old timers are getting more scarce with every meeting, how ever."
Old timers and those who have been in the county for a month or more, spent the day chewing the fat and recalling early days in the county's history. It was the 36th reunion of the group.
Sheriff's Office Lauds High School Students
High commendation was given today by Sheriff's officials to administrators of Anaheim Union High School on conduct of students recently during a Senior Class barbecue held in Irvine Park.
In a letter to Paul H. Demaree local superintendent, from E. M. Proud, juvenile officer under Sheriff Musick, Demaree and his administrators were praised for the efficient manner in which the class conducted themselves.
Sheriff's officers, halting all cars at the park entrance, searched the cars for liquor and narcotics. Officers reported no violations during the evening and said many students commended officers for their alertness in stopping cars.

Anaheim Youth Admits Marijuana Possession
SANTA ANA, (OCNS)—Charged with possession of narcotics, Moreno C. Miramontes, Pete Pacheco and Bernard Pacheco, all of San Bernardino, will be arraigned in Superior Court at 9:30 a.m. July 9.
The trio Friday asked for more time in which to hire an attorney.
They are accused of possessing marijuana.
Raymond T. Todd, 6061 Monterey St., Anaheim, pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana before Judge Robert Gardner yesterday. He will appear in Superior Court at 9:30 a.m. July 9.
Two Escaped Juvenile Girls Found by Police
BUENA PARK OCNS)—Two of four juvenile girls who escaped from the Orange County Juvenile Hall Sunday morning were arrested by officers here Sunday night.
With the girls in a car parked near the local recreation park were two juvenile boys from Stanton. Officers said the boys and girls used profane language and struggled with the arresting officers.
One of the four girls who escaped yesterday has returned to the juvenile hall and one is still missing.

Los Angeles, visited with their daughter and son-in-law, the Joseph Kimmel's, this past week. This week, Jack Kimmel of San Francisco, is a house guest.
Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Fri and family spent Sunday in Lemon Heights, calling upon many friends, then taking a drive throughout that section of the county to see all of the new homes in the area.
The Owen Underwoods just returned from Oakland, where they visited the Robert Fishers, former Placentians. While there they dined at the Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, where they report summer crowds and weather. They returned via Yosemite.
