The recent mock atomic attack on cities in the United States created a wide-spread interests and caused a lot of comment, especially the remarks of a Texas woman.
In Fort Worth, five of the 13 air raid sirens wailed for an extra 25 minutes recently when automatic cutoffs failed to function after a drill test.
Police reported one woman called and demanded that they "stop that crazy ambulance that's running up and down in front of the house with its siren on full blast."
While on the subject of atomic energy, Lewis L. Strauss, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission said that the New York telephone directory lists 30 makers and sellers of such diverse items as atomic books, fuel, hats, "and even underwear."
"I am puzzled as to what the atom can do for that last item," Strauss said.
This is the season of caps and gowns, Pomp and Circumstance and graduation parties, but if some seniors thought they were busy, they should talk to David Yesiar, 21, of Byfield, Mass., a University of Massachusetts senior, who will really have a busy day Sunday. Here's his timetable:
9 a.m.: Gets lieutenant's commission in ROTC.
10 a.m.: Captains U of M. laerosse team in athletic meet.
11 a.m.: Attends baccalaureate sermon.
2 p.m.: Gets bachelor's degree.
7 p.m.: Gets married.
In Norman, Okla., Professor R. Dale Vlet of the University of Oklahoma is beginning to wonder if some of his law school examinations aren't a bit too hard to digest.
One short time later she went fishing at the same place and caught a bass with a woman's wrist watch inside.
Who says old Doban has had his day? In Montrose, Colo., Russ Harmon had to drive his car to a garage for extensive repairs after colliding at an intersection with a horse and buggy driven by Joe Levi.
Levi, who is 84, just snapped the reins and rode away, his horse and rig undamaged.
Down in Houston, Tex., the Rev. Rufus T. Bivins gave a very realistic sermon and demonstration of the tortures of hell last Sunday.
While telling the North Side Methodist Church about the fate awaiting incorrigible siners, Bivins slapped the side of his leg for emphasis. A packet of matches ignited and the minister spent several minutes demonstrating how a man on fire reacts.
Take heed! Children over 12 who appear on main street in shorts will be arrested. Police Chief William F. Fitzpatrick of Milford, Mass., announced recently.
No mention was made of adults.
Salesman George Verdelis believes in the salami he sells.
He talked it up so much that grocer Sam Kochio of San Francisco grabbed a loaf of the sturdy meat and beat Verdelis on the head with it.
Verdelis threw a jar of mayonnaise through a beverage display and departed, dignity and salami in hand.

In Norman, Okla., Professor R. Dale Vilet of the University of Oklahoma is beginning to wonder if some of his law school examinations aren't a bit too hard to digest.
On Wednesday of last week, one of his students, Duke Logan, walked into the "evidence class," took a look at the exam paper, and fainted.
The luck of the Irish? Up in Gridley, Calif., Mrs. Marjorie Kelleher recently caught several black bass and found a gold ring inside

Famous last words. In Tallahassee, Fla., County Health Officer, B. C. Pafford warned Esie Mae Hudson, restaurateur, to close the Hot Spot Cafe because the roof might fall in.
She refused. As Pafford reached for a telephone to begin legal proceedings, the roof fell in.
Freeway Route Okayed by State
SACRAMENTO (UP)—The California Highway Commission today adopted a routing for a 7.5 mile section of freeway in southeastern Los Angeles county and western Orange county.
The new route extends from just west of the San Gabriel River on the west to the Santa Ana Freeway just southeast of Buena Park, the commission said.
Plans of the division of highways call for constructing the section as a four-lane freeway with provision for an ultimate six lanes.
The route extends along Artesia Boulevard to Studebaker Road, then swings slightly north to parallel Artesia for some two miles to Bloomfield Avenue. It then turns southeast and continues for another two miles to Miller Street, just south of Orangethorpe Avenue and then turns due east for three miles slightly south and parallel with Orangethorpe.
The new route meets Santa Ana Freeway near Magnolia avenue. It traverses a small section of Buena Park where that city and Anaheim adjoin. Start of construction will depend on the availability of future highway funds.
AROUND THE TOWN
By STANLEY LOUDON
"Anchors away," this was the start of a fine weekend enjoyed by this writer and twelve other sea-going men and boys.
I was asked to sail with the Anaheim Sea Scouts to Catalina island for the opportunity to see and tell through pictures, a story of the work now under way.
Like all sailors, you should have a boat, and this club really does. It was originally a possession of Fullerton and was turned over to Anaheim badly in need of work but very seaworthy. The club ventures along the coast and between these trips work on weekends.
The local chapter is sponsored by the Anaheim Lions and Rotary club, which furnishes guidance and some financial assistance. The Sea Scouts meet each Wednesday night at 7 o'clock in the Kwikset Recreation Club on La Palma street. At present there are only eight active members and more boys are needed to make the club a success.
Under the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America, it is a full part of the Scouting program. The leaders who volunteer their time and efforts are Clinton Griggs Sr., Marvin Miller and Ben Stakemiller.
The Scouts of the sea teach seamanship, leadership, responsibility, and Americanism.
Orange County has furnished a portion of property in the Miracle Mile in Newport for the sole purpose of docks and building, so that Sea Scouts can learn the ways of the sea.
As we proceeded to Catalina it was one of those nights when the sea could have been smooth but wasn't. There were a few large ground swells and a few blue and green Sea Scouts.
Saturday appeared and you would never have known there was a sea sick fellow aboard. Everyone had a full day of swimming, skin
