ANAHEIM, FULLERTON CLAY
Winner to Play Huntington Beach's Southern Champs in County Playoffs
Anaheim's defending champions collide with their long-time rivals, Fullerton, in a sudden-death battle for the Northern Division title of the Orange County Junior Legion Baseball League at Amerlge Park, Fullerton, tomorrow at 2 p.m.
The winner will face Huntington Beach's Southern Division champions in a best two-of-three series for the county crown this weekend. Huntington Beach won the Southern title by defeating Newport, 8-4, in a tie playoff game yesterday.
In their regular season series, Anaheim split with Fullerton, winning, 11-5, and losing, 11-3. Both clubs whipped Buena Park handily to wind up the race in a 3-1 tie for first.
Last year, Anaheim defeated Fullerton twice during the regular season to end the Indians' five-year reign as county champions. Anaheim went on to take the county and district titles before succumbing to San Diego in the area playoffs.
Coach Dave Hernandez plans to send his ace southpaw, Paul Grover, to the slab against Fullerton. The chunky lefty pitched a four-hitter in chalking up a victory in his last appearance against Fullerton.
Grover is unbeaten in two starts and in 21 innings of toil, has fanned 28 batters while walking 15. He has an earned run average of 1.64.
Grover is also one of the leading hitters for the Colonists with 9 hits in 18 trips for a .500 mark. Catcher Frank Doretti is also hitting .500 with 16 hits in 32 at bats.

Alvin Humblly smacked a triple and single for the victors.

Angels' Brown Happy in Coast League
OAKLAND, Calif. (UP)—If Tom Brown is finished as a big jugger there isn't a happier guy in the business, now that he can play regularly for the Los Angeles Angels.
"I'd never want to go up again it meant warming benches for another 10 years," the soft spoken Brooklynite said. "For the first time in my life I feel as if I'm really a part of a ball club. And that means more than sitting all by yourself in some major leagueugout."
Brown, who became a grizzled 30 year man in the majors last season at the tender age of 25, ever got into more than 89 games season during his decade in the National League.
It started in 1944 when Scout George Sisler of the war torn Dodgers signed Brown out of New York Metropolitan Vocational High School. Tom put in a hitch with Newport News of the Piedmont League before Brooklyn called him up during the same season.
"Sure it was novel to be a major leaguer at that age but I'd never go that stuff a second time," Brown said as he laced on his spikes. "This time I'd ask for a couple of seasons at least in the minors to develop. I hardly got to play at all and if I did I got shunted ar and to every position except pitch and catch. A guy should be allowed to concentrate on one spot."
Brown, who says his natural position is third base, played there steadily for the Angels until the last couple of weeks when he has spent some time in the outfield.
Still in Lineup
"But I'm still in the lineup, that's the main thing," Brown went on. "And another thing, this business of being a home grown product with the Brooklyn ball club wasn't so hot. There was something about it that didn't jell with me during the 6½ years I was there. It was a relief to go to the Phillies in 1951."
Brown reached the alex of his Brooklyn career in 1950 when he smashed three home runs against the Cubs in on egame at the tag end of the 1950 season. Chicago got him from the Phillies in 1952, when he was enjoying his best year with a .302 batting average. He skidded to .196 in 85 games last year and was sent down to the Angels this spring.
