Wetback Roundups To be Continued
LOS ANGELES (UP)—Immigration officials said today the round-up of illegal Mexican entrants would be carried out on a full-scale basis for the remainder of this week.
Thousands of aliens, mostly farm workers, already have been seized and transported back to Mexico during the drive which started last Thursday morning. Nearly 1,500 illegal entrants were picked up in the Los Angeles area alone.
The district director of the Immigration Service, Herman Landon, said, "We'll keep the program going until we get them all." He predicted, however, the number taken would decrease this week.

Many Appear in Superior Court
SANTA ANA (OCNS)—Jail escapees, bad check writers, drunk drivers, thieves burglars—all were on parade Friday in Judge Robert Gardner's Superior Court.
Probationary hearing was set for 9:30 a.m., July 2, Superior Court's Department No. 5, for James B. Haskell, 19, Box 222, Delhi, and Donald C. McGill, 21, 906 N. Lemon, Anaheim, who pleaded guilty to burglarizing the Irvine Country Club. Ball continues at $1000 each.
Judge John Shea will sit on the probation because, Gardner pointed out, "I'm a member of the Irvine Club."
Lloyd M. Hildebrandt, 31, a Newport Beach Fisherman, was sentenced to Chino's prison for men after he admitted plastering southern California with bad checks the last three years.
Hildebrandt, who said he worked at various fishing spots, distributed checks throughout Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Orange counties. He also "hung paper in Bakersfield." His Orange County checks totalled $200.
Hildebrandt requested immediate sentence and Judge Gardner complied, remarking "You must have issued hundreds of dollars worth of bad checks in Newport Beach alone." Hildebrandt said he had no ideal how mahy bogus checks he had written, adding "I just got started and couldn't quit."
Gets Court Trial
Marvin R. Ford, 20, Santa Ana, pleaded not guilty and Ronald P. Huntley, 22, Santa Ana, entered a guilty plea to attempted burglary in the Garden Grove Union High School, May 30.
Ford gets a court trial at 9:30 a.m. June 24. Huntley will appear at the Plantation Motel on Roosevelt highway.
Dennison was ordered on probation for three years, on the requirement he serve 30 days in the county jail and make full restitution.
Burglary case of Robert H. Hubbard, 20, Westminster, was suspended on grounds the defendant is mentally incompetent. He was committed to Metropolitan Hospital until such time he is deemed sane. Then he will be called on the count.
Falling in his piea for hearing before the U.S. Supreme Court, Richard H. Mitman, 37 Los Angeles surrendered to the court and was ordered to serve his six months sentence for lewd and lascivious acts.
Mitman and blonde beauty Ingaborg Schnitsler, 26, Los Angeles model, were arrested after they collaborated in the taking of lewd pictures in a Laguna Motel, Sept., 20, 1952.
Mitman claimed he served his time on the charge in Los Angeles and asked court judgment in Orange County set aside.
Judge Gaterson commended Mitman on his excellent representation in court, "You thought you were right, it was apparent I though I was right."

Day Ask Habeas Corpus
for Accused Kidnaper
PHOENIX (UP)—An attorney defending accused kidnapper Daniel Joseph Marsin today considered using the Arizona State Supreme Court for a writ of habeas corpus to obtain Marsin's release.
Marsin, 41, charged with abducting 23-year-old Mrs. Evelyn Ann Smith for $75,000 ransom, was ordered bound over for superior court trial Saturday by Justice of Peace Al J. Flood.
Marsin's attorney, John J. Penn, later said he was studying tests of the case to determine if the State Supreme Court would be asked to set aside the order.
Flynn said such a move to obtain Marsin's release would be based on grounds that "insufficient evidence" existed to hold his client probable cause.
Mrs. Smith, wife of Phoenix businessman Herbert Smith, said Marsin abducted her outside a beauty shop and held her captive 29 hours until her husband bought the ransom money to a designated place in the Superstition mountains where she was released unharmed. Authorities later captured Marsin near the pay-off point.

Marvin R. Ford, 20, Santa Ana, pleaded not guilty and Ronald F. Huntley, 22, Santa Ana, entered a guilty plea to attempted burglary in the Garden Grove Union High School, May 30.
Ford gets a court trial at 9:30 a.m. June 24. Huntley will appear for probationary hearing at 9:30 a.m., July 29. Both are free on $1000 bail.
The plea of Thomas Woolard that his son Thomas Woolard, Jr., 33, Van Nuys, was in need of psychiatric treatment failed to gain much favor in the eyes of Judge Gardner.
Judge set 9:30 a.m., July 2, as the time for probationary hearing on a bad check count. He (Thomas Jr.) is charged with writing a $50 rubber check and cashing it in the Secret Harbor Cafe, Santa Ana. Ball remained at $1000.
Donald J. Becker, 23, Compton, pleaded guilty to drunk driving and was told to appear for probationary hearing at 9:30 a.m., July 2.
Denies Charge
The case of Mrs. Agnes S. Corea, charged with contributing to a minor by helping a juvenile obtain a driver's license, was slated for 9:30 a.m., July 19, and a jury trial. She pleaded not guilty.
Donald J. Lasswell, 22, Westminster, who pleaded guilty to writing worthless checks in the amount of $707.04, was put on probation for three years. But he was ordered to serve 30 days in the County Jail and make full restitution for bad checks he spread in Westminster, Santa Ana and Huntington Beach.
Ex-convict Henry J. Lopez, 43, Montebello, pleaded guilty to petty theft and buno operations and was sentenced to Chino's men's prison for a term prescribed by law.
Lopez obtained sums of money ranging from $35 to $65 by alleging he needed the money to bury his mother. Judge Gardner commented that he'd rather have a man stick a gun in his back and obtain money than use a lowly ruse such as Lopez did.
Mable Lewis, 18 Los Angeles, admitted stealing a $500 diamond ring from her employer, Mrs. D. F. Gordon, 2302 N. Olive Lané, Santa Ana, heard her case continued to 9:30 a.m., July 2. Judge Gardner said: "This looks to me like an alone." Hildebrandt said he had no ideal how mahy bogus checks he had written, adding "I just got started and couldn’t quit."

Judge Gardner said: "This looks to me like another case of the country girl who came to the city and fell in love with the wrong people."
Continues Case
The judge continued the case to allow the probationary department to contact the girl's parents. Her mother lives in New Orleans; father, San Francisco. She refuses to return to her mother, citing fear of her husband from whom she is separated.
Three men who aided two county jail prisoners escape and the escapees appeared before judge Gardner.
George Ashikimin, 24, Gary H. Smith, 23, and Richard Smith, 25, all of Seattle, admitted they assisted Robert J. Biers, 22, and James L. Roberts, 20, jail trustees, make their gataway May 18 of this year.
The trio picked up Biers and Roberts, who were serving short terms on misdemeanor counts, near the Santa Ana bridge.
The escapees were hoeing weeds and fled into an orange grove where the Seattle threesome made the pickup. Roberts is Ashikim's half-brother.
The three who helped the escape also are wanted on an auto-stealing charge in Gilroy, Calif.
Richard Smith urged the judge to send him to Chino, but Gardner delayed sentencing of the trio until 9:30 a.m., June 25.
Roberts saw 30 days tacked onto his original sentence. He had four months to do. Biers, who twice escaped, also was given an added 30 days.

'Woman' Shoplifter Turns Out to be Man
ALHAMBRA (UP)—A shoplifting suspect, believed at first to be a woman, turned out to be a man who said he had masqueraded as a female for 26 years and had been married twice, police reported today.
Officers admitted they were surprised yesterday when their suspect with the long, brown, natural hair and women's clothing, at first identified as Mrs. Virginia Curtis, 40, admitted actually being Norville Curtis, 40.
Curtis, while being booked on charges of shoplifting about $4,000 worth of merchandise from Los Angeles area stores, broke down and confessed to being a male when about to be searched by a jail matron:
"I had to tell you," police quoted Curtis as saying, "because if I did not, I might be sent to a woman's prison if I am found guilty of shoplifting..."
