NIMBLE FINGERS — Nancy Bolton, stitching at sewing machine, shows her seam to Sherry Steffes, Mary Trecher and Jo Williams, all members of the Yorba Linda Cloverettes 4-H Club. Organized less than two years, the Cloverettes are completing the second phase of their sewing project, preparatory to exhibiting at the Orange County Fair, Aug. 10-15. News From Placentia Way Mildred Yorba MacArthur Mr. and Mrs. Alex Jimenez and family of San Clemente were dinner guests last Thursday at the home of the Al Flemings. Mrs. Jiminez is Al's sister. She had not seen the new living room that has recently been added to the Fleming home, so it was previewed at that time. John Corrigans had a bit of catching up to do last Tuesday evening, since the Corrigans have just returned from overseas, where John was stationed with the U. S. Army in Germany. He is Mrs. Yorba's brother. They met at the Statler Hotel, then went out to the Fox and Hounds for dinner, and fin- Mr. and Mrs. Alex Jimenez and family of Sari Clemente were dinner guests last Thursday at the home of the Al Flemings. Saturday night, Kendell and Betty Yorba of Orangethrope avenue hosted one of their famous barbecue dinners, which feature his specially-aged beef, and Betty's frijoles, salsa, and garlic bread. Those who enjoyed their hospitality, were Steve and Lorraine Manassero, Emil and Inez Boisseranc, Jack Yorba and Miss Marlin Stickley, and Louie Ferrero. Their daughter Barbara, who graduates from the Fullerton High school this week, assisted her parents. The Ken Cougers of Brea, and Peggy Bowen of Placentia, packed their fishing gear and took off for Ensenada last Friday, where they spent the week-end. The Bernardo Yorbas and the John Corrigans had a bit of catching up to do last Tuesday evening, since the Corrigans have just returned from overseas, where John was stationed with the U. S. Army in Germany. He is Mrs. Yorba's brother. They met at the Statier Hotel, then went out to the Fox and Hounds for dinner, and finished the evening at the Mocambo, where they heard Perez Praco and his internationally famous mamba orchestra. Friday night the Yorbas were still in a celebrating mood, so they and the Charles Petersons of Sunny Hills, attended the Magnolia Ball at the Clock Country Club, which was a complete sell-out, with proceeds going to the Orange County Children's League. Louis Kraemer, Dottie Hornsby, and Bud Yorba were guests of your correspondent at the Lakeside Golf Club in Hollywood. Saturday night, where they enjoyed dinner and dancing and were entertained by a presentation of "This Is Your Golf," where they were joined by Miss Norma Schecter of Burbank, and Mrs. Bob Hope of North Hollywood. Describing his recent four months of taking movies in the heart of Africa, Bruce Linton, professional free-lance movie photographer spoke before members of the Cypress Kiwanis Club last week. He told of some of the habits of the tribes, and the experience he had with the group by whom he was hired. Also appearing briefly on the program was Jake Van Dyke, general chairman of the approaching White Gold Day. He told of the initial plans which have been formulated and urged the Kiwanians to help support the event again this year. Another guest of the evening was Glen Hubbard of Cypress. APO 971, San Francisco, Calif. Dr. Mervin E. Semmens, 38. Cypress osteopath whose offices were located in Long Beach, passed away recently in a Long Beach hospital. Funeral services were held last Tuesday with interment at Sunny-side Memorial Park. Dr. and Mrs. Semmens lived at 8752 Walker St. He had purchased the property, next door with the intention of building a clinical building on it in the future. Although his practice was not here, Dr. Semmens often answered emergency calls when needed. Survivors are his widow, Marian, a son, and a brother. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Kroesen and sons, John and Jim, arrived last Wednesday from Scranton, Iowa, for a two weeks visit with Burt Kroesen and family. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sartwell took a trip over the weekend when they visited Sartwell's sister, Mrs. May Tradewell in Bloomington. Clarence Ball, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pearley Ball, 5702 Saint Ann St., has returned home for summer vacation. He has been attending the California School for the Deaf which is located at Berkeley. Mrs. Stan (Ruth) Doerr, former Cypress resident, was reported to have entered Santa Ana Community hospital last week for major surgery. She and her husband were well known here as the former owners of Doerr's Sundry's, which is now Henry's Drug Store. Mrs. Pernel Barnett Takes President’s Gave Of Buena Park Women’s Club at Installation BUENA PARK—New officers of the Buena Park Women’s were installed last week by Mrs. Albert Lauder of Fullerton. American head dresses were used to illustrate the duties of easie fleer. Mrs. Pernel Barnett was installed as president for the coming year. Installed to serve with Mrs. Barnett were Mrs. Edward W. Thurman, first vice-president; Mrs. Paul Kroesen, second vice-president; Mrs. Carl M. Kounts, recording secretary; Mrs. Stanley Patchet, corresponding secretary; Mrs. C. C. Rittenhouse, financial secretary; Mrs. Georgianna Boyd, treasurer; Mrs. Marion F. Spencer, parliamentarian; Mrs. J. F. Goss and Mrs. R. F. Sutherland, trustees; Mrs. Rittenhouse and Mrs. Minnie Stephens, advisor and junior advisor to the Junior membership. Each officer installed was presented a corsage of yellow roses. Prior to the installation ceremonies, Mrs. Rittenhouse, retiring president, conducted a short business meeting. It was voted to present an honorary life membership to Mrs. L. H. Tanquary, now of Fullerton and past president of the club. Mrs. Rittenhouse thanked the clubmembers for their support during the past year.
