Tips on Touring
By Carol Lane
Women's Travel Authority
Are you angling to join the male members of the "angling" set? Then pack your fishing rod, tackle and other gear into the family bus and take off—because the "fishing's fine." And you'll find plenty of company because the number of feminine fishermen is increasing yearly.
Finding the right spot to fish isn't too hard, particularly in June, one of the best months for casting your bait or fly. Fish bite best when the temperature of the water is relatively cool as it is now, in early summer.
In fact, at this time of the year, fishing is good in practically all sections of the country. In the mid-west, trout, muskellunge and walleye are plentiful. Later on, bass and pike will provide excellent fishing. In the southern states, bass, bream, crappie and catfish abound. Game fish are also rising in eastern lakes and rivers and in far-western mountain streams, following spring's melting of the ice.

BIG home
Sometimes you can go just so far in being subtle and clever... and then you outsmart yourself!
For days I carefully planned a buildup designed to bring Jeff around to my way of thinking about acquiring a new washing machine. Since I had the 1954 revolutionary Whirlpool wringer-type washer in mind, I figured the best approach was to emphasize the new look for changing times. Casually and gradually I pointed out the new appearance of everything from trains to toasters, women's fashions to automobiles, water pitchers to bed sheets. When Jeff began tossing in a few ideas of his own I was sure I was on pretty safe ground and started to hit home with my basic purpose.
"Say, Jeff. You know all the conversations we've had about the new appearance of everything? I saw something today that really stopped me! I guess everyone's always taken for granted that wringer-type washing machines had to be as squatty and bulky and unattractive as our old wreck. But you should see the new Surgomatic washer! It's completely streamlined with a beautiful rotunda cabinet from top to bottom. Really a handsome piece of machinery. And it won't take a back seat to any washer, in or out of the budget class."
Jeff obliged with some interested comments so I was sure I had scored and began pitching more convincing details. Happily I described push-button controls on the front panel which regulate washing action and water drainage while an exclusive timer dial automatically clicks off any washing time desired for various fabrics. At the end of a wash period the machine shuts off and the timer rings a bell to let you know the job is done!
That night I went to sleep peacefully, convinced that my elevator groundwork would net me my BIO thermostat - controlled heating, colored bathroom fixtures. No 1 hardwood floors, Horizon sliding doors, paved terraces, two-car garages, stall showers with five feet Coralite, ceramic tile floor and base, 40-gallon water heaters, Formica drainboards and worktops, electric bathroom heaters, mahogany slab doors, TV jacks and outlets, plaster walls and ceilings, brush - coated exteriors.
Easy-To-Build Birdhouses
a Quaint Touch for Cities
from SMALL HOMES GUIDE
A plain gable can be given a quaint decorative touch with a small birdhouse, such as the one at right. From Small Homes Guide. A few pieces of lumber, plywood and hand tools will do the trick.
The drawings below give dimensions and construction details of the birdhouse. The drawings give adequate directions for the home craftsman. Use exterior plywood for the face and, if desired, close the holes with thin plywood or boards painted black. Use the same kind of trim as on the gable.

Handy Outdoor Room
If you enjoy sitting on a park bench and watching clouds—eating in an open air cafe—relaxing in the sunshine, you can have all this in your own back yard.
With ingenuity you can add an outdoor room to any house, says the June SUNSET. Ten pages of photos show how Westerners plan, build, furnish, and use an outdoor room for dining, children's play, entertaining, and daily living.
The secret in designing the outdoor room is to close it in as much as necessary for comfort and privacy, but as little as possible to keep from losing the outdoor feeling. The June SUNSET has scores of ideas for getting the most out of living in the West.

Increased Sales at Chapman Gardens Noted as School Vacation Approaches
Increased sales last week of 3-bedroom Award Homes in Chapman Gardens, Garden Grove were attributed to the end of the school year by a spoke man for the developers, a Volk-MeLain Co.
Sales for the week totaled 28 homes with most buyers seeking immediate occupancy before June 21. The week's activities brought total sales to more than $900,000 since the opening of the 217-home Award Homes development in April.

Noted as School Vacation Approaches
Increased sales last week of 3-bedroom Award Homes in Chapman Gardens, Garden Grove were attributed to the end of the school year by a spoke man for the developers, a Volk-MeLain Co.
Sales for the week totaled 28 homes with most buyers seeking immediate occupancy before June 21. The week's activities brought total sales to more than $900,000 since the opening of the 217-home Award Homes development in April.
Convenience of travel from Los Angeles over the Santa Ana Freeway and the low move-in price of $299 were reasons given by the developers for the heavy activity at Chapman Gardens.
Full price of the new Award Homes is $7495 with monthly payments set at $59 plus impounds for non-vets as well as vets.
Chapman Gardens lots are all 60 feet wide or wider and the Award Homes are the biggest in their price class, according to the developers. Buyers are given a choice of six different exteriors and floor plans, the smallest of which contains approximately 1000 square feet of living space.
Floor plans are functional and rooms are exceptionally large. Architect is Edward H. Pickett while color consultant is William Manker.
Property improvements include paved streets and concrete curbs and sewers and all utilities are in and paid for.
