YOU CAN DO IT—Glenn N. Woolley of Fullerton, left, co-chairman of the campaign for retention of Robert C. Kirkwood as State Controller, congratulates him with prediction of success at polls Tuesday. County wide committee is backing Kirkwood, who succeeded to post vacated by Thomas H. Kuchel, of Anaheim, now U.S. Senator. Publisher Ted Kuchel of Anaheim is the local chairman for Kirkwood. Television Star James Daly Termed Most Satisfied Actor Now in TV By JACK GAVER United Press Staff Correspondent NEW YORK (UP) — The most satisfied television actor around is James Daly. TV has paid him a handsome income and permitted him to tour Europe at the same time. Daly, the star of the weekly "Foreign Intrigue" film series for the past season, has just returned at least a year," Daly said, "but we didn't hesitate. I figured there wouldn't be many chances in my lifetime to get paid for visiting Europe. We also felt that it was a wonderful opportunity for our daughters — the oldest is 10 and the youngest 5 — to get some painless education they couldn't get otherwise. "Being able to do the thing I like best — acting — at the same BY JACK GAVER United Press Staff Correspondent NEW YORK (UP) — The most satisfied television actor around is James Daly. TV has paid him a handsome income and permitted him to tour Europe at the same time. Daly, the star of the weekly "Foreign Intrigue" film series for the past season, has just returned home with his wife and three small daughters after 39 half-hour episodes of helping trip up wrong-doers as a correspondent in practically every corner of Europe. "Although we filmed all of the dramatic episodes either in studios at Paris or Stockholm, there was no limit to background west of the Iron Curtain." Daly explained. Interesting Cities "The first thing I did when the producer, Sheldon Reynolds, hustled me over there last summer, was to hop around with him and a cameraman to the most interesting cities in many countries to film backgrounds for use later with the stories. "We'd go to Marseille or Genoa, say, and drive around. As soon as we'd spot an interesting doorway, building, park, alley or whatever, we'd stop and I'd walk around in my trenchcoat while the cameraman shot footage against the back ground we wanted. "We wound up with a file of film clips that covered just about any locale and situation that would turn up in the plots we worked on later." New York Stage Daly, who hails from Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., was doing well on the New York stage and in television dramatic shows when he was offered the "Foreign Intrigue" job by Reynolds last year. "It meant pulling up roots for at least a year," Daly said, "but we didn't hesitate. I figured there wouldn't be many chances in my lifetime to get paid for visiting Europe. We also felt that it was a wonderful opportunity for our daughters — the oldest is 10 and the youngest 5 — to get some painless education they couldn't get otherwise. "Being able to do the thing I like best — acting — at the same time was almost too good to be true." Associate Producer-Actor Back with Daly at the same time are Reynolds, who pioneered the making of films abroad for U.S. television three years ago, and his associate producer, John Padsvano, who also appears occasionally in the series as Tony, sidekick of Mike Powers, the character played by Daly. "Funny thing about John," Daly said. "We'd worked together for almost a year in Europe in the closest sort of association. But it wasn't until we were back here and having lunch one day last week that we made the momentous discovery that we were both from Wisconsin and had attended the state university. "Maybe that's just an indication of how hard we worked while we were abroad." If It's News You'll See It In The Bulletin COTTON CARPET INSTALLED COMPLETE 649 yd. ANAHEIM FURNITURE 146 N.
