Buy-A-Poppy Ask Legion Auxiliary, Post Members "Children in this area, left in need by death or through disability of their veteran father, will be among those to benefit from the Memorial Day Poppy sales opening tomorrow for a two-day program, the American Legion auxiliary members one of the sales forces. "By wearing one of these small red crepe paper poppies you show understanding and willingness to aid American young — youth who have suffered because of the rigors of the three wars in which America has been involved," said Elvamae Jones, local Auxiliary poppy chairman. "When you drop a coin in the container carried by our Auxiliary workers you are helping us care for these innocent victims. Wearing a poppy purchased by your generous contributions on Friday and Saturday, designates your interest in these children and helps to provide for their immediate needs," said Mrs. Jones. Ed Dailey, speaking as commander of the American Legion, said, "Veterans of the world wars should be the first to put on poppies on Poppy Day. The poppy is our memorial flower, showing that we have not forgotten those comrades of ours who fell on battlefields in defense of our country or the living injured at home." Mothers Guild Sets Three Future Events Preparations for the month of June were made at the meeting of the Mothers Guild of the First Presbyterian church with many dates tentatively set on the calendar. Fifty Choirs to Sing in Festival Sunday at Anaheim City Park Theater; 800 to Be in Chorale Over 50 Orange County Church choirs will sing in festival Sunday afternoon at the Greek theater, Anaheim park. Dr. Lara Hoggard for eight years, the conductor of the famed Fred Waring Pennsylvaniaians, will be the conductor. Dr. Hoggard is well known throughout the nation having served as guest conductor for many high school college and church music festivals in nearly every state in the union. His appearance at numerous choral clinics has been in demand for the demonstrating of the practical techniques which have been largely responsible for the phenomenal success of the Fred Waring Glee club. During the season 1952-1953 Dr. Hoggard toured with his own concert organization, called "Festival, of Song". The tour consisted of 85 concerts in 30 states. Dr. Hoggard is now living in Southern California with his family. During the winter season his work will consist primarily of arranging, writing, and editing. There will be a limited number of engagements as Conductor and lecturer for educational and professional organizations, festivals and workshops. Music Educators, conductors and students are fortunate indeed to have this gifted young choral director, lecturer, arranger make his home in California. Sunday's festival is sponsored by the Choral Conductors Guild of Orange County. Accompanists will be Patti Allis Marquart and Halsted McCormac. This program will include first, second and third grade pupils. It will prepare them for advancement into a specified choir group. Mrs. A. E. Bourne was the hostess for the meeting. Outgoing officers honored were Mrs. Dorell Hoffner, Mrs. A. Mittman, Mrs. J. W. Seaoy, Mrs. Elden Paddock, Mrs. Bourne, Mrs. D. Watt, Mrs. D. K. Pullman and Mrs. C. H. Johnson. Girl Scouts Urged To Pay Balance on Established Camp All Girl Scouts signed for established camp at San Antonio are alerted to the deadline of Friday at 5 p.m. for payment of $13, the remaining amount due on their campership. SEA SCOUT EXPLORERS—Five Anaheim Sea Scouts Explorers attended the Bridge of Honor at the Seal Beach Naval Ammunition and Net Depot. They were accompanied by three mates and Wes Weaver of Lions Club. Boys sharing this important evening were Gilbert Kohler, Walter Niewhner, Harlan Heinrich, William Loessin and Clinton Griggs. Mates were Ben Stakemiller, Marvin Miller and Clinton Griggs. Seal Beach Depot officers, headed by Captain McKinney, (third left in photo) directed the boys through the depot operations. Sale of the poppies makes it possible to aid more than 153 disabled veterans in hospitals, confined from three world wars. In some of the hospitals the work of making the poppies is included in the occupational therapy program, added Mrs. Carroll. Theme of the sale is "Honor the dead by helping the living."
