News From Cypress Way CHRISTINE DAVIS Phone JAckson 7-2810 A resolution to bond the Cypress County Water District for the sum of $850,000 was passed by the board last Wednesday night for the purpose of "acquiring capacity (including rights of use) in the Magnol'a Trunk Sewer and for the acquisition and construction of trunk and force main sewers and sewage pumping and metering facilities." A hearing has been scheduled for 8 p.m. June 15 in the Cypress school when two questions will be answered for property owners: (1) Will the whole or only a portion of the district be benefited by the accomplishment of said purpose? and (2) If only a portion of the district will be benefited what portion will be so benefited? The action was taken after long hours of careful consideration by the board on which of the two taxing systems it should adopt. The first, a general obligation tax set-up, would have set the bond at approximately $1,300,000 and would have included building everything, mains and laterals, in the same bond. The tax would have been levied upon every property owner in the district, regardless of location. Under the second plan, the one adopted by the board, special assessment districts are set up. The initial $850,000 sum is raised by taxes from the entire district for the mains and pumping stations, and the laterals are installed by districts. When an area decides it wants the laterals run from the mains to the individual houses, a certain percentage of the property owners in the proposed district will present a petition. Then they will be taxed for the cost of installing the laterals. A portion of the 115-man cadet group, headed by Major Ralph Comstock, also staged an effective shooting demonstration with automatic and semi-automatic weapons. First Cypress honoree was Cadet Lt. Ray Decker, who won the honor or cadet officer bar. Special commendation was given to Capt. Ronald Gayler, Lt. Jerry Vogt, and Lt. Aki Tanaka. Mrs. Rex Taylor of Orange avenue, was honored with a layette shower in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn Taylor, 9191 Walker St., last Wednesday morning. Members of the Nazareene Foreign Missionary Society met in the Taylor home for their project of rolling bandages for the leprosy hospital which is located in Swaziland. South Africa; and made the day a combination of work and social activity. Each guest brought a covered dish which was enjoyed by the goup during the lunch hour.
