Anaheim YLI Past Leaders Honored; New Officers Nominated at Birthday Meet
Approximately 60 members and guests attended the YLI dinner in the Pickwick cafe, which preceded the recent meeting presided over by President, Mary Jean Lambert. Past presidents honored at the 31st birthday party which followed in the IOOF Temple were introduced by Opal Rimpau, general chairman of the birthday party.
They were: Marie Martin, junior past president; Bonnie Jollsaint, Elsie Benner, Mary Ellen McRill, Beryl Kennedy, Clara Burkhard, Marle Lenain, Agnes Redman, Vernia Reed, Adelain MsBride, Mary Kirsch, Frances Backs, Geraldine Gallagher, Mae LeVecke.
Past presidents unable to attend were: Velma Neuman, (in Japan) Alice Matejka, Irma Peltzer, Leona DeWitt, Olga Peltzer, Nell Robertson, Marie Conrad, Agnes Stilwell, (first president).

New members initiated during formal ceremonies were Pauline Constance Rivet, Isabelle Abern, Lillie Martines, Cecile Baker, Barbara Jean Binder, Nancy Ruth Bell, Evelyn Lee Robinson.

Elections will be June 7.
Gerry Carlson, card party chairman, announced that the next monthly card party will be held in the home of Bonnie Strickroth, 1942 East Wilhelmina St. May 27 at 7:30 p.m. All members are invited to attend. Reservation chairman is Gerry Carlson, telephone KE-8-7635.
Cord Rosary chairman, Wenona Halderman, announced that the next meeting will be held Tuesday, June 15 in the home of Agnes McFarland, 842 North Janss St. at 7:30 p.m. New members wishing to assist with this project are cordially invited to attend these meetings.
Present Guest Speakers
Helen Krom of Fullerton, Grand First Vice President and Institute Deputy, was the guest speaker. In her talk she emphasized "Catholic Action" as being the written word of the church, and reminded the members that "actions speak louder than words," that the organization cannot progress without the members pledging their loyalty and cooperation to its officers.
Margaret Young of Santa Ana, Grand Director and general chairman of Grand Convention, to be held in Long Beach, July 10 to the 17, spoke on her two projects. The National Shrine and Grand Convention.
The fund for the National Shrine is far below its quota, she said. She urged the members to take part in this project so that its ultimate goal will be realized. The deadline is June 15.
The attendance prize went to Ursula Jamison. Catherine Garret of Fullerton Institute was a guest.
Honor 31 Birthday
The 31 birthday party, which honored the past presidents, and all the members, was held in the spacious IOOF dining room of the hall, after the meeting.
The 12 beautiful decorations represented the 12 months of the year. As the members entered the dining room, they were seated at the table which represented their respective birth month.
All officers were hostesses for the evening and served delicious finger sandwiches with individual birthday cake inscribed YLI 1923-54. Pouring at the lovely tea table were Mae Le Vecke and Marie Martin. Mae Le Vecke praised the organization for this lovely party, which was the first of its kind to honor its past presidents.
Baskets of calla lillies were used in the decorations of the meeting room.

Celebrating his third birthday Robbie Savala, son of Mrs. Felix Savala of 315 Westmont St., was honored when a group of his playmates with their mothers gathered at Vala home.

Field Service Chairman of State PTA Discusses Motherhood Responsibility at District Meeting
Mrs. George L. Davis, field service chairman of California Congress of Parents and Teachers, addressed a large attendance at fourth district meeting in the auditorium at the Los Alamitos Naval Air Station, with a relaxing oral rendition of the theme of the day, "Let's Talk it Over". In expressing her thoughts on the subject of the Parent Teacher organization, she explained, "This group is dedicated to educating the parents to educate their children in the right paths, and for the parents in turn to pass on this information to those not receiving this service.
"The PTA should help mothers to become better mothers as they rear the future leaders of this country. It is the aim of the National Congress to Aid the State Congress, the state to help the district and the districts to contribute helpful information on to the councils, and in turn the Councils inform local associations," said the speaker. Mrs. Davis expressed the importance of motherhood and the necessity of aiding each other as an example for American children. Mrs. Davis is the mother of two sons and past president of Fifth District.
"Welcome Aboard" was given by Commander J. D. Taylor and the "Business of Education" was discussed by Supt. Jack L. Weaver of Los Alamitos School district. Pledge of Allegiance was made by the Station Color Guard, led by Lt. H. W. Jeffers, U. S. Navy Chaplain.

Delta Kappa Gamma Charter Group Meet
The charter members: Gamma Epilion chapter; Delta Kappa Gamma society; its first meeting in the Marguerite Hill on North in Santa Ana. Delta Kappa is a national honor society women educators. The Gamma chapter is the third to be organized in Orange.

Hostess Compliments House Guest at Dinner Party
The home of Mrs. Vangelia Rainey at 9291 La Palma was the scene of a lovely dinner party on a recent day when the hostess complimented her cousin, Mrs. Eunice Moore, her house guest for the past few weeks. Mrs. Moore leaves soon for her home in Susquehanna, Pa.
Majority of the party guests were formerly from Pennsylvania with the afternoon hours devoted largely to reminiscing. Colored pictures of Alaska and the Western states, including spring flower desert, mining town scenes were shown by George Rainey, son of the hostess.
Larkspur, petunias, carnations sweet peas and other California spring flowers were used in decorating the rooms for the occasion.
Guests sharing the affair with Mrs. Moore and her hostess were Mr. and Mrs. William Bunche of North Hollywood, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Place of Culver City Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stark of Monrovia, Mr. and Mrs. George Rainey, and children, Billy Sylvia, Tommy Vanita and Timothy of San Pedro; Miss Marle Place, Los Angeles; Miss Martha Overfield and Mrs. Johnny Wesneski of Pasadena, Mrs. Harriet Michaels of Inglewood.

Doris Simmons is Honored Queen of Job's Daughters
Bethel No. 5 of Anaheim Job's Daughters elected new officers for the ensuing term with Doris Simmons named honored queen-elect. Georgian Ehrle, honored queen, presided during the meeting.
Those to serve as elective officers with Doris Simmons for the next term are: Senior Princess, Jean Foster; Junior Princess — Darlene Nipp, Guide — Charlotte Pruett, and Marshal — Jerie-lee Ehrle.
Installation was announced for June 19 at 8 p.m. in the Masonic Temple.
The next regular meeting will be June 7 which will also be initiation and the retiring honored queen's farewell night.
District Kappa Alpha Theta Officer Speaks To County Group
Mrs. John Oliver of Sherman Oaks, alumnae district president of Kappa Alpha Theta, spoke to members of the Orange County Alumnae club when the group met in the home of Mrs. Willis Thompson at Laguna Beach.
Events tabulated for the future included the August 3 brunch to be held at the Balboa Bay club at 11 a.m. All Kappa Alpha Theta are invited to attend.

Delta Kappa Gamma Charter Group Meets
The charter members of the Gamma Epilison chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma society had its first meeting in the home of Marguerite Hill on North Van Ness in Santa Ana. Delta Kappa Gamma is a national honor society for women educators. The Gamma Epilison chapter is the third chapter to be organized in Orange County.
The new officers for this chapter are: President, Maren Leonard, Santa Ana; vice-president, Evelyn Ericson of Santa Ana; second vice-president Alma Pitts of Fullerton; recording secretary, Elizabeth Arnold of Anaheim; corresponding secretary, Virginia Huff of Anaheim; parliamentarian, Burma Rose Peale of Santa Ana; treasurer, Marcella Surowic of Santa Ana. Dr. Adele Lewis Grant, the state founder, was present to aid in the formation of plans and the appointment of the committees. Those named from Anaheim were Harriet Schadewald and Alpha Salveson.
Jean Heilman Heads White Temple Circle
Jean circle of the White Temple Methodist church elected officers at the meeting held in the home of Linda Prior at 8091 Alamo. Jean Heilman was named president.
Other officers elected were: Jean Freeman, vice president; Kitty Lynch, secretary; Becky Smith, treasurer; Meryle Osborn, devotion committee; Jackie Mesnard and Joan White, phoning committee; Elizabeth Cheatum, flower and cards; LaVerne Gushwa, hostess; Marjorie Packiner and Alice Carmonne, project; Mrs. Esther David, sponsor.
Pruella Abbott gave an informal talk on the origin of Mother's Day, and made several corsages for the group. Mrs. Meryle Osborn gave the devotions for the evening.
Installation services for the Jean and Isabel Circles will be held June 8 in the church parliars. Assisting Mrs. Prior was Esther David.
First Edison PTA Meeting Planned

Ann Judson Circle Installs Officers
The Ann Judson Circle of First Baptist church officers were installed for the coming year with Mrs. Cecil Hall seated as president. Mrs. A. J. Stone was installed vice-president; Ruby Clasby, secretary; Mrs. George Smith, treasurer.
White Cros s work filled the morning hours at the regular meeting. Sack luncheon was enjoyed at noontime with Mrs. Roy Curtis, daughter of the hostess, serving dessert. At the 2 p.m. business meeting Mrs. Stone led the singing. Miss Grace Holmes gave the devotions.
Donna Reafsnyder Gets LBC College Scholarship
The scholarship committee of the Long Beach City college liberal arts division, has announced that Miss Donna Laurene Reafsnyder, graduating senior at Anaheim High school has been awarded a $50 Faculty Club scholarship for the academic year 1971-75 at Long Beach City college.
Miss Reafsnyder, age 17, who resides at 521 North Clementine St., with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Reafsnyder, has attended Anaheim Union High school for the past four years. She plans to study art and merchandising at Long Beach City college in preparation for a career as an interior decorator.
At Anaheim Union High school, Miss Reafsnyder has been an active member of the Art Club and a member of the Art Club Council. She has also served as vice president of the Toastmasters club, sargeant-at-arms of the Tri-Hi-Y club and has been active in the Prom committee and the Junior Red Cross. She has been a song-leader this year and a member of the Pep Rally committee which plans Anaheim's pep assemblies, pep rallies and makes posters for school events.
The funds for the scholarship were raised by the faculty at Long Beach City college in a recent production of "Prof-Vanities of 1954" and by voluntary cash contributions of individual faculty members. This is the first year that the Faculty Club scholarship has been awarded at Anaheim Union High school.
Alternate winner is Herman Beuselinck 4017 Howard St. Los Alamitos, AUHs student, who plans to enter Long Beach City college next September as an engineering

'Famed Duncan Sisters Slate 'Tea for Tommy' Senator Kuchel Event
One thousand invitations have been issued to prominent Republican and Democratic women residing in San Fernando Valley for a "Tea for Tommy" to be held at the famous Duncan Sisters' home, 16412 Greenleaf Street, Tuesday, May 25, 2 to 4 p.m. The affair is being sponsored by Women for Küchel in Sherman Oaks, supporting Senator Thomas H. Kuchel's re-election.
Mrs. Henry Kuchel of Anaheim, the senator's mother, will be honored guest. She will be accompanied by Mrs. Hildred Parrell, chairman of the Orange County Kuchel Campaign committee.
Leigh Billiphant, a nationally known speaker, will address the group. He is director of the Glendale Community Hospital and trustee of the Physicians and Surgeons Osteopathic College of Los Angeles.
The hostesses, Rosetta and Vivian Duncan, who are providing the entertainment program, will present some of their outstanding talent, will preside at the tea tables.

Criss Graduates Attend Ice Capades
The 1954 graduating class of Criss Business college attended the ice capades at Hollywood Friday evening. Enroute the group stopped at the Clock Country club for dinner.
Graduates attending were: Velva Brookman, Vivian Ross and Nan Ubersetzig, Anaheim; Ferne Molander, Fullerton; Lola Huffman, Garden Grove; Evangeline Quezada, La. Habra; Greta Gravelle, Midway City; Jacqueline Fulton, Orange; Lupe Mendez, Stanton.
Members of the faculty and friends, who enjoyed the festivities were: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crisp, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gibson, Miss Dorothy Lorrison, and Don Anderson.
VFW Auxiliary Has Successful Benefit Card Party
Chairman Irene Brown served a delicious dessert before card play at the recent party sponsored by the Anaheim VFW auxiliary. There were several score winners including Lucille Howe, first in Canasta; Mrs. S. Kelly, first in Bridge; Mrs. Catherine O'Brien and C. Agren, top scores in 500 games. Special gift of pillow slips went to Mrs. O'Brien and other awards were presented to Hattie Nicholson, Nellie Stone, Mrs. Chettlet, Elizabeth Aldrich, Elmo Richards, Hilma Curran, Mary Jones and Caroline Masqueiler.
The Auxiliary, at a sewing meeting this week at the VFW hall, made plans for a bazaar during the fall season. At the close of the session refreshment was served by President Irene Brown.
