SPORT TVIEWS by Bill Burns
The N. Y. Chiefs, three times world Roller Derby champions, hit the L. A. Armory masonite oval this Monday night (5) 8:30 for a duel with our Braves. This marks the first California appearance for these eastern "wheels" and runner has it that their main objective is to allay some of the nasty talk that drifted east to the effect that our western teams consider themselves slightly superior to the eastern skates. The Braves say: "His true! The odds-makers not so! Dick Lane will be mikeside for this put-up-or-saut-up challenge by the 1940, 51 and 52 champs.

DeMarcoro's hometowners booed the decision and cheered the Californiaian. This will be a case of Tommy, the slugger, vs Johnny, the claver.

Grover Stars as Colonists Come From Behind in Seventh to Nip Tars, 7-6
Anaheim's Colonists took over third place and virtually boosted the Fullerton Indians to their third successive Sunset League title by nipping Newport, 7-6, at La Palma Park yesterday.
Fullerton now holds a two-game lead over Newport and can clinch the title with a victory in one of its two remaining games.
Paul Grover pitched and batted the Colonists to victory. He took over on the slab after Joe Villaseñor left the game with a spiked ankle in the first and whiffed eight batters while walking none.
He drove in the winning markers with a double to left-center in the last of the seventh after singles by Lupe Gonzales and Joe Avitia and a sacrifice.
Newport held a 5-2 leading going into the fifth, but Anaheim tied the score when three runs came across on a double by Al Storey and an outfield error.
Avitia and Leigh collected a double and single apiece to lead Anaheim's eight-hit attack.
Ragan, Lionettes Top Buena Park Girls, 3-0
Bertha Ragan pitched a five-hitter as the Orange Lionettes defeated the Lynx, 3-0 in a Pacific Coast Girls League game at Buena Park last night.
The Lionettes tallied all of their runs in the fourth on a walk, single by Joan Kammyer and Girlie Morner and an overthrow of third base.
Marie Kornder was the heavy hitter for the Lynx with a pair of singles.
The Lynk journey to Fresno for a pair of games this weekend.

Queen Hurls Stars Back Into First Place in PCL
By DON THACKREY,
SAN FRANCISCO (UP) — Mel Queen, who is ace-high with Hollywood fans, is making a career of pitching the Stars into the Pacific Coast League lead.
The 36-year-old right-hander did it again last night for the second time in five days as he six-hitted the Sacramento Solons for a 6-1 victory which rotated the Twinks back into first place.
Oakland's Oaks made it a complete shuffle of the first division as they swapped places with San Diego by virtue of a 6-3 win over the Padres.
The Los Angeles Angels crept to within a half game of fifth place Seattle with an 8-3 victory, their third in a row over the Rainiers. and the San Francisco Seals continued their fight to get out of the doghouse by downing Portland 5-3 to bring the Beavers within a game and a half of loop purgatory.
Queen pitched Hollywood into first place last Saturday and then on Wednesday night Marino Pierretti of Sacramento pitched them right out again.
So last night the Hollywood ace registered his ninth victory in a row since a season-opening loss, improved his already excellent earned-run-average and whacked a three-run double in his team's big inning.
The Twinks scored five runs in the eighth inning, four of them unearned, to break a 1-1 tie and bust up a good ball game. Sacramento's Emil Patrick, who clouted a homer for his squad's only tally, deserved a better fate than the three errors that were committed behind him.
