Television Work Easy, Say Dance Team of Routine By JACK GAYER United Press Staff Correspondent NEW YORK (UP)—Others may grouse about the hard work of television, but Bambi Lynn and her husband, Rod Alexander, the dancing couple of "Your Show of Shows," have no complaints. You see, they've worked in night clubs. "Night club work," Bambi said, "means that you have to conserve your energy all day to be fresh for the shows at night — every night. You live with the brakes on all the time." "But in television we can lead fairly normal lives. We work in the daytime — rehearsals — just like other people, and, except for the four nights a month the show goes on the air, we have our evenings to rest or seek a little pleasure just as others do." Trial And Error Creating the dance numbers of "Your Show of Shows" is largely a matter of trial and error for the couple. Rod improvises movements and style as they rehearse with a pianist. "Say that we're preparing a number of ours called 'Blue Danube,'" Rod explained. "You can tell from the title that we're using the Strauss music, of course. No problem there." "But we have to find a pianist to write a prologue and to interpret the music as we visualize it for our particular needs. This often is the toughest part of the whole business." Then there's a dream sequence in which the two have achieved their desire, fading back to them as they were in the beginning, the girl asleep with a smile on her face." In working out a routine, they keep no sort of record of the steps they decide to use. "We just add a second movement to the first," Bambi explained, "then go back and do the two together. A third is added, we go back to the beginning again and so on to the end. By the time we have a five-minute number put together in this manner our muscles have 'learned their lines' — our bodies know the whole routine."
