Top Honors Go to Many Mothers at Bethel Baptist Mother-Daughter Dinner Party

A student emergency fund of $850 has been made available to Orange Coast college students by the Newport Harbor Assistance fund has been deposited with the college business office, and is to be used by needy students in cases of immediate urgency. Students will be encouraged to repay loans, if possible, so that the fund will be a revolving one and the assistance can be passed on to other students.
Yvonne Osborne is Birthday Honoree
Young Miss Yvonne Osborne, seven - year - old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Osborne of 912 West Alberta St., was the guest of honor at a birthday party Monday when 29 of her playmates shared fun - time with her.

Miss Martha Leypoldt, minister of education at the Bethel Bist church and speaker at the mother and daughter banquet u "Wishes" as her subject. She designed her talk on "wishes co-true through hard work."
Mrs. William Stevens, Mrs. Walter Gooden, accompanist, led group singing with Mrs. R. Joe Quast, president of the church women's group extending a welcome.
Appropriate solo. "The Mothers Hymn" was sung by Mrs. Kenneth Vertrees and a duet. "A Flower and a Kiss for Mother" was sung by Phyllis and Elaine Boettcher. Recognition of mothers was in charge of Mrs. Herbert Stabbert with mothers with children.
Mothers with children in full-time Christian service were Mesdames William Rowland, William Poeishman, John Whitcher, Elise Gromer, Reinhold Jaschke, Joe Dymmel, Mrs. Rev. John Leypoldt.
Recognition to Mothers
Mother recognized for the most boys was Mrs. Westley Rapp with Mrs. Berthold Jacksteit, Mrs. Don Fuchs and Mrs. H. B. Carr, in a tie for mothers with the most daughters.
Mother of the youngest baby was Mrs. Claude Leonard with Mrs. Hulda Smith and Mrs. Kathrina Justus tying for the mothers with the most daughters-in-law.
Four generations in the Quast family attended the banquet. They were Mrs. Minna Quast, Mrs. R. Joe Quast, Mrs. Phil Boettcher, Phyllis and Elaine Boettcher. Each mother was presented with a gift of note paper.
On the program were Lorna Hein, accordionist; Mrs. Menno Thleson, Mrs. Ralph Cornelius, with Mrs. V. Thompson as pianist, sang "Wonderful Mother."
Toast to mothers was given by Mrs. Paul Jungkeit with Mrs. Alex Stark, the toast to daughters, and Miss Cheryl Jungkeit, toast to grandmothers.
Unique Decorations
Decorations wree clever for this affair with the table centerpieces representing th idea of what mother does each day of the week. Monday was the wash day theme with a
Bibles with the centerpiece feeding a beautiful arrangement roses.
Mrs. Fred Meyer, Mrs. Pox, Bohnet were on the dinner committee while Mrs. Boettcher, Miss poldt and Mrs. Quast had ch of the program, Mrs. Will Stevens was responsible for music with Mrs. Adolph Bas reservations. Mrs. Harry Urbill and Mrs. Walter Paulus were plimated for the decorations.
Farewell Courtesies Go to Mrs. Greedue
Mrs. Edna Greedus, sister Mrs.-Cecil Miller of 746 N Lemon St., who leaves May 20 Detroit, Mich., for an extended visit, was the honored guest at recent farewell parties.

Strawberry chiffon pie and gel food cake,topped with w ped cream and berries.were desserts for the parties.

News on Lutheran Women's Missionary Meet Told; Convention to Convene at Riverside
Lutheran Women's Missionary League, an auxiliary of the Southern California District, Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod will hold its fifth biennial convention on Saturday and Sunday, May 15 and 16, at the municipal auditorium in Riverside. Delegates representing Zion Lutheran Church of Anaheim will be Mrs. Walter Knigge and Mrs. Elroy Oldenburg. Alternates will be Mrs. E. Clasen and Mrs. O. Ulrich.
The convention opens at 1 p.m. Saturday, the inspirational address to be given by the Rev. E. O. Smith of Venice, counselor of the League. A 150-voice chorus will sing and Mrs. Walter Kemp will be accompanist.
Mrs. George E. Theiss will preside over the two-day business sessions scheduled for Saturday, 2 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Mrs. Walter A. Maier of St. Louis, wife of the late Dr. Maier of International Lutheran renown, will be the featured speaker Saturday at 7 p.m., following a buffet supper. Mistress of ceremonies will be Miss Elaine Blauback, Los Angeles attorney.
Set Matins Service
A Matins service, conducted by the Rev. William Graumann of Immanuel Lutheran Church, River-side will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday in the Municipal auditorium. The Rev. William Hillmer of St. Louis, executive secretary of Synod's Board for Missions in North and South America will be guest speaker Sunday afternoon.
Delegates will choose mission projects for 1954-56 and elect officers to the Southern California District Board. The joint efforts of the 96 societies of Southern California have made possible by $5,000 and $8,000 grants, the erection of a chapel at Indio, Victoryville, Blythe, and Bishop; also the establishment of a scholarship fund.
High School Band Plays in Fiesta Parade Friday
Anaheim High School Band members have a busy time ahead of them with the first appearance in the Santa Ana College Fiesta Day parade. Friday at 2 p.m. Going with the band unit will be the drill team and the majorettes, the last group to be headed by Shirley Klamim.
Decorated float, many marching units, bearded men and lovey woman in colorful Spanish costume will feature the downtown parade at this traditional Spanish Fiesta.
Sheriff Jim Musick, whose daughter Martie Jo is a student at the college, will serve as parade grand marshal. The Don and Dona will ride on the Newman Club float, followed by such units as the Toro Marines, Santa Ana High school's 40-member band, the 115-member band and drill team the Anaheim High, and the 105-member band and drill team from Willard Junior High school.
The college program will open at 7:30 with the coronation breakfast and assembly. Dr. Daniel C. McNaughton, college director, will crown the Don and Dona and a brief history of the Fiesta tradition will be given by Thomas H. Glenn, head of the English department and an advisor since the Fiesta was founded in 1928. Prizes will be awarded for the best men's beards and women's ponytail and braided hair-do's.
A sack lunch and tug-of-war games at noon will be followed by JUNE WEDDING — Miss Ann Seekins, youngest of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. of 118 North Palm St. and Paye Terry of Hawthorne wed Saturday, June 12 p.m. in the White Temple dist church. The young girl tend Anaheim Union High and will continue their following their marriage nouncement of the betrothal approaching wedding this week by the bride parents.

Horace Mann Parents To Get Details on Fremont Program
Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Horace Mann School auditorium parents will have an opportunity to hear Tommy Thornson, principal of the new Fremont Junior High school tell of the curriculum to be offered and the type counseling they hope to carry out when school convenes in the fall.
Mrs. Melva Williams, dean of girls, and Avon Carlson, dean of boys, will complete the panel of speakers planning to acquaint parents, whose children will enter the Fremont Junior High school in the fall, with the new type program.
A group of sixth grade students will pose questions for the panel to answer, parents may also present questions and problems to be clarified for them.
Sixth grade chorus will entertain and fourth grade room mothers will be the hostesses.
These plans were made at the board meeting held recently in the school auditorium with Mrs. Oliver O'Brien, newly installed president, conducting the meeting. Besides outlining the general meeting, the date for the teachers picnic was set for the first Thursday in June. Mrs. O'Brien announced that Horace Mann PTA had purchased the third pair of glasses needed by students at the school and that the PTA was now obtaining clothing for a needy family.
The school bond issue was presented for discussion and a member of the school board asked to be at the general meeting to discuss it. Adjournment followed with cake night run, and the long will close with the 10 pm Dance in the Student Union music will be furnished by Pamplin and his orchestra.

JUNE WEDDING — Miss Nancy Ann Seekins, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. D.Seekins of 118 North Palm St. and Richard Joseph Terry, son of Mrs. Faye Terry of Hawthorne, will wed Saturday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the White Temple Methodist church. The young couple attend Anaheim Union High school and will continue their schooling following their marriage. An announcement of the betrothal and approaching wedding was made this week by the bride - elect's parents.

Magnolia Ball and Elections Engross Home Society
The "Magnolia Ball" being the topic of conversation, the Northern Orange County chapter of the Children's Home Society met in the home of Mrs. Charles Peterson in Fullerton for their monthly luncheon and business meeting Mrs. Joseph Neighbors was the luncheon chairman with Mrs. William Armstrong and Mrs. Peterson co-hostesses.
Mrs. Lillian Hurtt, director of volunteers from the Los Angeles office of the Children's Home Society was guest speaker for the afternoon. For the benefit of the new members Mrs. Hurtt outlined the organization of the Society in California, statewide, districts and auxiliaries.
Mrs. Frederick Rusch, president, opened the business meeting. The new members Mrs. Jack Royer, Mrs. Hunter Piper and Mrs. Max Bessler of Fullerton were welcomed to the chapter by the membership chairman. Mrs. Joseph Neighbors, Mrs. Wyatt King, general chairman of the Magnolia Ball, June 11 at the Clock Country Club reviewed the various plans for the dinner-dance. Mrs. George Powler, chairman of the tickets asked that any person wanting a reservation for the ball contact her at KE 5-5986 or Mrs. King at LA 5-5922.
Highlight of the afternoon was the installation of new officers. Mrs. Joseph Pahey was installed as treasurer; Mrs. Charles Endicott, secretary; Mrs. Otto Grigg, vice-president. Mrs. Rusch presented the gavel to Mrs. Samuel Gendel as president of the local chapter. Mrs. Claude Owens presented to Mrs. Rusch a gift in appreciation for her work as charter president.

Beta Sigma Phi Has Installation Rites
Members of XI Gamma Epsilon Exemplar chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, at their meeting in the home of Beulah Hineman, Fullerton, Monday evening installed new officers. Helen Cohn, retiring president, officiated at the candle-light rites. New officers are Anna Claire Mauerhan, president; Dorothy Gerlich, vice-president; Helen Cohn, recording secretary; Bessie Frey, treasurer; Beulah Hineman, corresponding secretary.
Helen Cohn presented each member with a gift in appreciation of their cooperation during the past year. Miss Mauerhan presented the retiring president with a fountain pen and a past president's pin guard. Next meeting will be May 26 at the home of Ann Krogen, 800 North Janss St.
Set Fashion Show
Associated Women Students of Coast College will stage their annual spring fashion show Saturday May 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the campus Student Center.
Dean of Women Marie Howes issued invitations to coeds in senior classes, and their mothers, from Newport Harbor, Huntington Beach, Garden Grove, Tustin and Orange high schools.
More than 75 girls of the college will model clothing they have made and have worn to college events.
Miss Marlene Rankin of Costa Mesa is president of the sponsoring Associated Women Students.

Missa Carol Miller, a senior student at Marywood High school has been awarded a scholarship to Seattle University, Seattle, Wash., and will enroll for the fall semester.
Miss Miller is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller of 416 North Ninth Street in Seattle.
