Here and There Mrs. Mabel Eaton has returned from a ten-day visit with her daughter and family in Blythe. Five Fullerton Junior College students represented their college at the state convention of Future Business Leaders of America in Sacramento, April 30 — May 1. They were Gene Saquety of Whittier, president of the FJC chapter of FBLA, Lurita Johnston of Fullerton, vice-president; Janet Asawa of Anaheim, Anna Nose of Buena Park, Diane Van Winkle of Fullerton, accompanied by John Collins, faculty adviser. Grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Alden of Kenway are receiving congratulations for their son Richard F. and his wife on the birth of their daughter Amy Elizabeth at the Good Samaritan hospital in Los Angeles Friday. The infant has been named Amy Elizabeth and is the first grand daughter in the immediate Alden family. She has a brother Dana, awaiting her arrival at the family home in Beverly Hills. Maternal grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Dana Latam of West Los Angeles. Carl Zimmerman, 714 S. Lemon St., is accepting watch repair work. Fine selection of watch bands. Mr. and Mrs. Rolf Ludwig of 625 North Hawthorne welcomed their baby son at St. Joseph hospital April 30. Nell Eldred, employee at the Savings Building and Loan, is vacationing in Mexico. Joanne Carter Again Feted at Shower Miss Joanne Carter, who is to wed at St. Boniface Catholic church this next weekend, was the special guest at a shower party given by Mrs. Jan Spikerman and Mrs. Bill Franklin in the Spikerman home on South Citron Street. Centerpiece for the gift table was a bride and her bridegroom standing under an arbor of orange blossoms and pink rose buds. In the games Mrs. Richard Tozer, Mrs. Charles Lawrence and Pirates to Invade OCC Carnival Day Sw buckling pirates will invade the Orange Coast College campus on May 7, according to Dean Fred Huber, and those not in traditional costumes will receive cursory treatment. The annual college carnival will get under way at lunch time on that day. Booths will be erected just outside the college library with hucksters and pitch men making with the voices on behalf of sideshows, baseball throws, fortune telling, weight lifting and other games of skill. Scheduled for later in the afternoon is the annual baseball game between the "old men" of the faculty and students. On into the evening, the "Shipwreck Dance" in the Student Center will flatten the arches of students and alumni alike until midnight. The annual festivity is under the sponsorship of the Interclub Council with Donna Austin, Huntington Beach, chairman. Prizes will be awarded during the day for students with the best beard, the "scraggilest" beard, the most humorous costume and most original costume. Classes, for that day only, are over at 11 a.m. with the remainder of the day (and night) given over to the carnival. Pomona College Glee Club Sings Tuesday At Corona Del Mar The Pomona College Men's Glee club will present a formal concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday May 4 in Corona del Mar elementary school. The concert is sponsored by the Community church (Congregational) of Corona del Mar and will include Mozart's "Song of Brotherhood", a group of American folk songs, a 16th century motet, several Pomona College songs, and other selections. Barry Rumbles, baritone, who has studied under Lotte Lehman and has been soloist for several Tournament of Roses celebrations in Pasadena, will sing a group of songs. The 35-man Glee club is conducted by William F. Russell, chairman of the college music department who was choral director at Harvard University and Radcliffe college before joining the Pomona faculty three years ago. The club has been chosen again this year to sing at the Ojal Festival later in May. Orange County members of the club include Philip Anthony, Westminster; Delbert Elliott, La Habra, and Chester and Douglas Horton, both of Santa Ana. Mrs. John Henry, president presided at the meeting. Officers installed were Mrs. Carl Hatfield, president; Mrs. Arthur Korn, first vice-president; Mrs. Ivan Mahaffie, second vice-president; Mrs. Louis Bircher, recording secretary; Mrs. Floyd Boyer, corresponding secretary; Mrs. W. Mrs. Avery Streech, president of the Fullerton Council of Parents and Teachers, served as installing officer. She stated "Council officers and chairmen need to remember that they are counsellors and the smoothness of the local units depends on the experience and the thought given by counselors to guidance." Journalism Contest At Forest Lawn Goes Into Final ‘Stretch’ Forest Lawn’s $12,500 Journalism Awards contest headed into its final two weeks today as the 15 finalists chosen from more than 1100 student entries submitted their final essays to an editorial board of Los Angeles newspapermen. Tuesday, May 18, the prize winning journalists will be announced at the Journalism Awards Banquet at the Abassador Hotel in Los Angles, where guest of the evening will be Senator John Bricker (R), Ohio. The contest is held each year by the Forest Lawn Foundation with colleges participating. They are Pomona, Redlands, Pepperdine, Occidental and Claremont Men's College. The winning college receives $5,000, winning student receives $1,000 to further his education. Marie Dutton to Teach In Bakersfield Schools The teacher Placement Bureau of New Mexico Western college has announced that Miss Marie Dutton has accepted a position at Bakersfield, to teach in the lower grades. Miss Dutton is the daughter of Mrs. M. P. Dutton of 506 North Zeyn St. and is a graduate of Anaheim Union High School. Her activities while at Western include the Home Economics club, International Relations club PTA and the Newman club. She will receive her BS degree from Western in May and will begin her teaching in September. Rites at Capilla De San Antonio Unites Helen Katherine Meixner, Raymond Millett The attractive garden chapel at Capilla de San Antonio was the setting for a wedding Saturday at two o'clock in the afternoon uniting in marriage Helen Katherine Meixner of Los Angeles daughter of the late C. R. Meixner and Mrs. Florence Meixner of 201 South Palm St. and Raymond Ernest Millett of Los Angeles. The bride was lovely in her white ballerina length wedding gown the very full skirt of the sheerest 'of nylon tulle worn over a hooped satin petticoat. The lace bodice had a delicate Pearl trim and she wore a white hat band trimmed with lily of the valley which held her shoulder length veil to her hair. Gift of her bridgroom, a Pearl necklace, was her only jewelled adornment. Orchids and lily of the valley fashioned the bride's bouquet. She was escorted to the candle-lighted altar decorated with white flowers, by her uncle, Harry E. Hose of Long Beach. Officiating clergyman was the Rev. F. W. Neidringhaus, pastor of the First Congregational church at Santa Ana with more than 35 immediate relatives and close friends witnessing the rites. Attending the bride was Mrs. Urgea J. Blake of Long Beach worn over matching taffeta, for the occasion. It was accented by a corsage of Talisman roses. Her small hat and other accessories harmonized with her dress. The young couple are spending a honeymoon week at desert resorts before leaving for an extended motor trip through the South, up the eastern coast to Montreal. They will make their home in Montreal where the bridegroom is affiliated with Investment and Real estate firm.
